  1. FAU, ECU, and.... Stanford? No way. I guess maybe, maybe, for 2-3 years, Stanford could be convince with top 4 AAC and top 2 MWC and go with 10, or max of 12. But 16 schools? If that happens, i would be amazed. No way that many schools get a big contract.
  2. In that scenario, wouldn't the MWC lose it's top teams as well in a best of the rest conference with the PAC 4? In that case, why would UTSA and UNT move to a MWC that has lost multiple schools? They would be paying an exit fee and getting less money on the current contracts.
  3. I don't think it will be as difficult as you think. There are 20+ teams listed above with openings, many P5 teams included. And if need be, you could pay other schools to break an FCS contract game for example and go play at Stanford instead. I don't think the problem will be the 2024 or 2025 schedule and it certainly won't be cost issues short term. The issue is deciding what to do with the oly sports and then gambling on when the phone call to the big league would come. And then weigh that against a short term conference like the MWC or AAC to wait for the move up.
  4. I don't see Stanford signing up for that conference. I'll believe it when i see it. And without Stanford, the other three aren't going to convince MWC and AAC schools to move. I think Stanford is going to go indy in football, and once they make that announcement WSU and OSU will accept a MWC invite. No idea what Cal ends up doing. Maybe AAC takes them.
  5. Well if Gloria told her, it has to be legit. I am sure the MAC is open to being a P5 conference as well.
  6. Schools count tickets sold as part of attendance. Hence a school could say official "attendance" was 16k while the local newspaper writes that multiple home games had a fraction of that. The school i am referring to in that example resides in the MWC, but i am sure plenty of them cook the books.
  7. Cal doesn't have the same options that Stanford does. Stanford is richer than rich. If they want to play indy ball for a few years until the next round of invites goes out, they have the resources to do it. They will find a conference to park their oly sports. That's if they choose that path. We should know in next week or two at most i would guess. Here's an interesting article on Stanford speculating different options, including the MWC of course. https://trojanswire.usatoday.com/lists/can-stanford-university-play-big-league-poker-to-get-a-power-five-conference/
  8. And they aren't dropping football. So we know that answer.
  9. Adding all the MWC and keeping A5 status and bowl tie ins? That isn't happening. And Stanford is not joining any conference with all MWC teams. They probably would never consider the top 4 MWC and top 4 AAC schools either, even if they could somehow magically pull that off.
  10. Bigger power conferences will mean less and less games against G5 teams. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report-big-ten-considering-ten-193033672.html\ A recent report states that the Big Ten Conference will be expanding the number of league games per season. Our colleagues at Spartans Wire have reported that the Big Ten will “most likely be moving to (ten) 10 conference games with the additions of the Ducks and Huskies.”
  11. Agree. FCS overall is a much lower level in terms of resources, facilities, attendance, and revenue.
  12. Got it. I was talking about the competitiveness of the ACC now. Looking forward, agree with you about the BiG and SEC.
  13. I would hope the AAC and MWC don't try and play the expansion game the BiG, SEC, and B12 did. I don't see the return on investment at the G5 level. But then again, i didn't see the PAC going away a year ago either.
  14. Agreed. Which is why G5 conferences shouldn't try and destroy each other. The big boys are so far ahead, why try and decimate the AAC (even if it were possible) when the overall money is pennies for the power conferences. Better to try and keep the 68 schools or so at the G5 level as long as possible. I don't see a best of the rest that makes enough sense or dollars to lose rivalries and games fans want to watch over.
  15. Did that stop Clemson from winning it all? Do you think Duke and NC aren't capable of winning another basketball championship with the current revenue? I am not a huge fan of any of the power conferences, but i think the top ACC schools can go toe to toe with top BiG and SEC schools in both sports. Of course, SEC football is much deeper. But look at the bottom 8 or 9 teams of BiG and tell me there is a huge gap with ACC overall. I don't see it at least.
  16. My man, Clemson was playing for and winning a national championship just a couple hours ago in football. Florida State and Miami are always one coach away from having a monster season. And in basketball they have Duke, NC, Syracuse, Virginia, etc. If that conference held together, which is a big IF right now, it would be just fine in both football AND basketball long term.
  17. Hmm.... Sounds like some news is coming this week to me.
  18. It's going to be a P3 or P4 depending on if the ACC survives. Either way, the money those conferences pay out out will be literally 10x what G5 conferences pay. Hence my comment about the MWC going after AAC schools in a couple years. I don't see the point. If all 5 G5 conferences can survive and be as regional and stable as possible, that's probably the best possible outcome. At least they all have a shot (or two) at a playoff ticket, until the rules are changed again. The good news for the conference is the big boys aren't coming after the top MWC schools. The bad news for the top MWC schools, the big boys aren't going after you. So you are left with a cool conference with schools with similar budgets and goals, for the most part.
  19. While the super conferences are paying out $30-60M contracts, soon to be much more, the lower conferences will be battling for $5-10M. I guess the MWC could go after AAC schools, but the money would be negligible, and that's not even factoring exit fees. Let's face it, the big boys are running away even faster than they were a year ago when it comes to football. Rearranging chairs between G5 conferences isn't going to change things. Stay as regional as possible and keep things stable should be the strategy for MWC, AAC, CUSA, Sun Belt, and MAC. Here is a sobering reminder of what the rich paid out in 2022. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/big-ten-leads-power-five-conferences-with-845-6-million-in-revenue-in-2022-fiscal-year-per-report/ Power Five conferences combined for more than $3.3 billion in total revenue during the 2022 fiscal year, according to USA Today. The Big Ten led the pack at $845.6 million. The Big Ten's reported revenue eclipsed the SEC by more than $40 million, the latter reporting in February that it generated $802 million in revenue for 2022. The Big Ten distributed approximately $58.8 million to 11 of its 14 member institutions. Nebraska, Maryland and Rutgers all received millions less as it came from Big Ten Network earnings that predated the schools' entrance to the league. The SEC distributed approximately $49.9 million in revenue per member institution. The ACC was third at $617 million in total revenue, followed by the Pac-12 at $580.9 million and then the Big 12 at $480.6 million. The Big 12, however, was third in revenue distributed per member institution at an estimated $42-49.9 million, followed by the ACC at $37.9-41.3 million. Notre Dame, a football independent, reported $17.4 million in revenue from the ACC.
  20. Shocker. There is no way they want to give 2 autobids outside of the power conferences every year. It will end up with 5 autobids and 7 at large instead of 6 and 6. They won't go to less teams than 12 for simple greed.
  21. 2 of the remaining 4 big boy conferences just got bigger. I guess you could look at the MWC being the premier conference out west, but i look at it as one step closer to super conferences hoarding more and more money and eventually just separating and forming their own division. There will also be less need for mid major opponents, so less exposure for the G5 teams. I don't think the PAC going away helps the MWC or AAC or any other mid major conference. USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, ASU are all going to be making way more money, and they will get even more exposure now being in the BiG and B12. WSU and OSU are going to have to significantly trim their budgets based on wherever they land, most likely the MWC. Of all the schools, those 2 are going to be the biggest losers in this latest round of realignment. It sounds like Stanford and Cal will land somewhere else.
  22. I think we hit the send button at the same time.
  23. Easy. You can't have UTSA, SMU, Tulane, or Memphis. But keep telling yourself the MWC has leverage over the AAC despite paying significantly less. But don't you worry Convert, the big boys have taken their ball and will stop playing the little guys soon enough. The super conferences are right around the corner, as the PAC found out last week.
  24. He's probably laughing as he types at the thought people believe what he says.
