I just hope UNM doesn't panic and over compensate Richard in an attempt to keep him here. He's paid appropriately for the job he's done so far.

Interesting. Seems like there must have been an internal struggle there between those wanting him because of his name and those wanting nothing to do with him. Looks like the latter won out. Time to hop back on the Southwest train to Burque Richard. Snake will leave the light on for you!

As a UNLV fan I know how much it sucks to lose a coach and nearly an entire team. I feel bad for the Lobos. First, because I know it sucks to be a helpless fan and second, because we need at least 4 good teams to keep the conference propped up.
In the end, I actually think this will work out okay for UNM. To be honest, I don't really even get attached to players in the NIL era. Assuming Pitino leaves, I think UNM could do better. Of course the potential is also there to do worse.

Fun fact. Richard has won one NCAA tourney game in 12 years as a head coach.

Donavan Dent making some nice bank with his NIL deals, don't see him leaving anywhere,he had big NIL offer last season (which he confirmed in interview with GG)..and came back, now if coach P gets Louisville job that could be a scenario in which a see him leaving ,but not following him to Louisville, but transferring to the school that offered him NIL last season,..and apparently that was UCLA,same Bruin site is claiming DD is on their list now even though he hasn't entered portal yet...I'm guessing that's where the DD rumors are starting, same as last season
He's guaranteed gone if Pitino is gone, but I agree. I doubt he plays back east.

He doesn’t need titty bars to recruit like his dad does.
If he didn't have kids, I wouldn't believe that Richard had seen titties himself

In time. We’ll see if it happens.
Lol. At this point the coach is transferring. I'd expect every kid on the team in the portal tomorrow.

Louisville is going to be a serious rebuild, a few posters way overestimating its value, no big name coach wants that job,Chris mack and Kenny Payne have been last 2 coaches (not exactly household names)..whole team basically is in transfer portal, the 3,5 million a year Payne was getting is standard, (about 40 D1 coaches made more) ,...they need dig deeper then that to get a proven Big name . And don't see any big names on whose apparently their top 3,..Here's my take,I think Pitino wants that job so bad he's promised some transfers, probably promised a St John's home game, agreed to answer any questions about pop,..Louisville fan on X who I respect alot Said he's 99% Pitino is going to be named head coach within the next 24 hours per his sources ,.,..
Interesting. Yeah, the Louisville people who know there stuff seem to think that this is a done deal. I don't see Dent following him there. Probably SC or UCLA. Toppin, who knows? Obviously Mash would go there in a second. I imagine Nelly as well. It will be interesting to see what failed Power 4 restoration project UNM hires next.

Is he anything like his father?
@PTR?
He's not really at all like his father, which makes it odd. He's not a fiery guy. Doesn't light into his players. He recruits relatively well (mostly on his name). He's a mediocre Xs and Os coach as we've seen.

Sure looks like he's gone. This would be a shocking hire for Louisville. . and not in a good way. Richard is no Rick. It's bizarre because Louisville Twitter seems to be all about it.
I totally get if he gets offered the Cards job you take the first SW flight out of Albuquerque, but this isn't going to end well imo.

is it April 1?
Apparently a career MWC Conference record of 7 games under .500 is highly sought after.

Must be bad if Louisville is calling a Pitino.
Apparently Scott Drew and May at FAU/Michigan noped them.

UNM can do better.
I have a feeling he's probably Louisville's C or D option.

There will be many suitors for both if they enter. Hope they stay.
It might be a bad sign for UNM that both USC and UCLA are dogshit. Dent would likely move into a starting role with either team.

I hate to tell you this, but I heard Toppin and Dent are hitting the portal as well. Maybe it isn’t true, but..
Seen reports of "a player with multiple years of eligibility" nothing beyond that. Could be Toppin, could be Dent, could be both. Could be neither.

Puncher's chance. Probably the only MWC team that physically would have one against Uconn.

Mash was to be expected. I think his options will be somewhat limited. He can be "the man" on a Pacific or a Gerogia St. caliber team and jack up 20 mid-range jumpers or he can accept a role position on a decent P5 team. It will be interesting to see what direction he goes. He could also go pro and play overseas.
The Forsling thing probably should have happened a year ago.
I'm more concerned about the big 3 (Dent, Tru, Toppin).

Might want to offer Tim Miles. He’s a good coach and would likely stick around.
He'd be good in Logan. Not sexy, but solid and he'd stay more than a year or two.

Not saying it would have mattered, but when you let a 7'3 320 pound shaved Yeti stand in the lane for two long seconds (technically 3 seconds) before catching the ball, Then let him fall forward while shuffling his pivot feet and then reset to miss a jump hook and then go over the back to tip his miss in, there's not much you can do to defend that.

Tiger's guard play was a lot better than I thought. Figured that out the way they dispatched UNM.

I just can't get over the officiating anymore. Refs calling fouls because guys drive the lane and put on an act. Baylor is not playing well, but the officiating is nit helping.
Baylor's flopping makes USU look like 90s Georgetown.
