The FSU lawsuit changes everything, IMO. OSU/WSU are now incentivized to hold off on doing anything for as long as possible. Because if the ACC is gutted within the next 12-18 months suddenly a “best of the rest” conference isn’t picking off AAC and MWC schools, it’s joining up with whoever is left over in the ACC.

That, one, is a better conference. But two, it would have other members that could assist with exit fees if needed, so the burden wouldn’t fall directly on OSU/WSU to pay them.

The FSU & ACC lawsuits will likely drag on for a long, long time such that the PAC2 will likely have to make conference member decisions before it is resolved.

There are high hopes for CJ Tiller, but he hasn't seen any game time yet. The bowl game will likely be his coming out party, at least as far as getting some experience.

This really sucks to have a rookie debut in a bowl vs UCLA...sad :(

  3. this is an unmitigated disaster....I dont blame the players wanting money especially when the coaches and schools are getting gobs but college athletic teams are not privately owned sports teams, particularly for public schools so the less wealthy programs, conferences etc getting screwed. The divide between the haves and have-nots has widened beyond belief. Sad...very sad :(

  4. A couple of weeks ago, the signs were for a financial penalty if a raid occurred, then earlier this week was reported the alliance was to lead to an aspirational merger with no penalty. Today silence on the subject...maybe the aspirational goal is still there????

One item I havent read much about are the PAC bowl slots. Are # of bowls being reduced cuz of the expanded playoff? Certainly, there will be fewer bowl teams than now. More chances for G5.5s to play P4s in bowls perhaps?????

I personally would love to see PAC2 + MWC 12 + say Tulane & Memphis in a two 8-team conference set up of PAC & MWC with promotion/relegation. I doubt it will happen.

UNLV and a select few others will announce (by end of June 2024) we are leaving the MWC as of July 1, 2026.

We will be joining the PAC-12.

Thanks for giving Oregon St. and Washington St. a place to play for the next two years.

Hope you have a plan in place for after we are gone.

Your scenario may happen. They definitely get a lifeline for 2024. The article says there is an option to extend to 2025....not guaranteed. Will be interesting to see how it plays out!

I doubt it went down like that most likely it was pressure from some presidents to play nice and cut them a break because they are in a tough place. Presidents are not generally hard ball players but this might come back to haunt the conference.

Remember Marlene Tromp filed a suit when MWC tried to end their special deal. These prez are not playing nice behind the scenes as we've seen. Conf realignment is cutthroat. Eat or be eaten. Each institution or a few together (Airport mtg) do what's in their best interest. Before Oklahoma wouldnt go anywhere without OSU....really????? UO and OSU and UW and WSU are fighting each other like hell. Smell the coffee bro.

If what is being reported is true then we gained nothing to rework our schedule. Its insane because time was on our side and if we would have waited just a little longer we probably would have gotten what was best for our conference. Now we will have to play this game again in 2 years when they are in a stronger position and could blind-side us.

what makes you think the conference is really united behind the curtain???? Maybe the top tier wants to leave CSU, UNM, USU, UH SJSU in the dust. Im telling you Gloria didnt have as much leverage as you think. She got a fig leaf agreement that we wont raid you down the road lol.  The upper and lower tiers of the conference can live with this.

  8. Gloria was feeling heat from within, guaranteed! The top tier of the MWC, six or 7 most likely to be invited to the PAC by a raid, BSU, Fresno, UNLV et al could have done indv scheduling alliances apart from the conference. They'd cancel a non-conf game(s) to schedule with OSU and/or WSU. Im sure she factored that in. How would it look if she was undercut by some of her own university members? She basically kicked the can down the field for a year or two and kept her league looking united for now.

With that caveat, I agree. However, good luck getting the requisite number of votes to implement something like that.

First of all, Im sure Gloria has the votes. Second, consider that the top tier of the MWC, six or 7 most likely to be invited to the PAC by a raid, BSU, Fresno, UNLV et al could have done indv scheduling alliances apart from the conference. Im sure that Gloria factored that in so she wasnt holding all the cards either!!!
