You think the caravan was orchestrated by the American government?

No by Trump political operatives.  The timing of when it started and when it’s dispersing is too suspicious.

Cheaper to pay a couple thousand Hondurans and leverage free press than buy advertising.

I spent most of my day today moving our operations from Calabasas to Texas. My corporate HQ is in Calabasas and it was evacuated with Malibu. I have 4 employees that may have lost their homes and they don't know yet.

    Our prayers for you all

Yeah. Rural people tend to be more conservative because the lack of people and isolation kind of keeps their behavior in check; anything outrageous is done behind closed doors; you know all your neighbors and that is a strong regulator. Whereas the urban one, you don't know your neighbors. So you seek out someone who promises you things, and appeals to identity politics so you have a sense of belonging to some sort of a community. Hence, the strength of the Dems in cities.

I think it’s more rural less educated voters tend to be more religious whereas urban more educated voters are more agnostic. Sadly, I think the tribal split is more along religious lines and driven by social issues.

I would hope this place is a microcosm of the larger society where you have a few tribalists but more generalists. I don't know if that is really the case, but I have to hope it is. My theory is that the tribalists get all of the attention so they seem like the norm, but they really are not.

Most on this board are not low information voters who get their data only from talk (propaganda) radio.   This board exposes people to a wide range of view points and data from which one can draw your own conclusions.

Not really. Aside from the extreme homers, a majority of Bronco fans I know are anticipating a Fresno win.

I think most Fresno fans have too many nightmares in Boise to anticipate anything at the moment but we are certainly hopeful.

I'd definitely drop the points and take Fresno in this one. Boise has largely struggled offensively when they play a decent defense. Defensively, the injuries are mounting. Their entire starting DL is out, two of the positions are down to the 3rd string, they just lost their leading tackler for the 2nd time this season. One of Boise's biggest strengths is getting to the QB (4th in the country), but not allowing sacks is one of Fresno's strength, so even that isn't much of an advantage. Honestly, this has the potential to be a blowout.

Working the reverse Jobo angle I see.

Historically, nationalism has more than one meaning.

When combined with Trump's other catch phrase, America First, it harkens back to the AFC (America first committee) just prior to WW2 which advocated isolationist policies and anti-semitism.

So the context in which Nationalism is being invoked by trump and his ilk is isolationist and racist. They aren't even hiding it any more. Miller and all those fine people are out in the open passing these policies and taking violent action. All in the belief the president supports their views.

Please note I am not stating what trump actually believes, just the perception by some of what he means. Words matter.

Exactly.  Trump could easily have chosen to run on the economy.  He actually has a reasonable story to tell with the Corporate tax cuts.   Instead he chose to focus his message on the evil brown people streaming in from the south.

Come on.  Who are we kidding here.

It's definitely worrisome on multiple levels. Like even if the teachers were in on this, where was the administration, as you said (and I'm in full agreement with)? Or were they in on it too? I haven't paid a ton of attention to this story. I just find it incredulous that at least one person didn't see the stupidity in the staff's collective decision.

As to your last point, I agree as well. I think your suggestions are reasonable suggestions too. I definitely don't think it was a fireable offense, however, I do think it was insanely tasteless and they should probably get a (deserved) harshly worded letter as a result. But destroying someone's career over it is overkill IMO, like you said. I think an apology tour of sorts and a reprimand and maybe some forced outreach to the local Latino community should be in order. (Not that dealing with the Latino community is a bad or torturous thing, but rather, I don't think the people who dress up like Mexicans for halloween really have a lot of interest in doing things like that with the Latino community).

I mean, it's a divisive +++++ing issue. And if you're a schoolteacher, or in any position that deals with people really, it's probably a minefield best walked around.

I agree.  You don’t solve this issue by ruining people’s careers and livelihood.  That only creates more resentment and hostility.  But you also have to call it out for what it is.

These people may really have no clue how detrimental their actions were to minorities. That goes to institutional racism and the insidious nature of it. An inability to recognize the impact from a different perspective.

Hopefully this provides a valuable lesson.

The Trumpsters don’t care.  Who do you think this ad appeals to.  The same people....

True conservatives like Flacke and appalled but the party keeps spinning towards white nationalism.

    I love Fresneck.

We're gonna rip your little black heart out and feed it to our tee dog.

    :)

Hopefully we kick your ass so thoroughly that not only do we beat you but we discourage you so badly that USU kicks the shit out of you also.

  11. Fresno D 1a

    Utah State O 1b

    Boise 3

assuming we both beat Boise and Fresno beats SDSU watching the Fresno D battle the Utah State O will be classic.  Let’s hope both are fully healthy.

Don Williams of the Lubbock newspaper was probably the worst ballot of the 4 not ranking Fresno State. I don't say that because he did not rank Fresno State. Williams ranked 5-4 Northwestern at 19 and 5-4 Texas A&M at 23. He had UCF all the way down at 18 which was the lowest any voter had UCF.

Yeah Don Williams hates all G5 schools equally.   Fresno’s problem is the Pac12 aligned voters like Wilner that undercut them when voters in other areas largely vote up their local schools

But at this point schmucks like him don’t matter.  Beat Boise, SDSU, SJSU and then Utah State and we will be fine.

Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News (probably begrudgingly) now has USU and Fresno State on his AP ballot. He often does not like to vote for MWC teams.

    22. Utah State
    23. Cincinnati
    25. Fresno State

Wilner is a PAC-12 homer and the PAC is struggling.  Worse thing they need is a strong CA MWC school.

The loser still has Houston over Fresno. Wanna bet he is a Cal grad?
