Imagine their outrage if a band mocked one of their sacred cows as they do religion.
Imagine.
I hope Stanford withers on a vine and gets no lifeline.- 1

If Stanford goes Indy, I wonder to what degree that band will hinder them in bringing big name B1G and SEC schools into Palo Alto. Hi, Ohio State. We'd like to schedule a home-and-home with you and have all your alumni fill our stadium and be insulted and humiliated by our halftime show. Checked winsipedia, and Ohio State and Michigan have been playing at multiple PAC schools multiple times over the last few decades. However, Michigan has never gone to Stanford since the band took its current form. Ohio State went out to Stanford once in the early 80s, and never went back.
It's adorable how edgy their band thinks it is

It's worked out so well for them, they should continue doing that.

So, this is all very interesting...
Stanford can go independent but Cal can't really do so feasibly, Cal is hoping they are a package deal. Stanford doesn't want the MWC, but no conference wants them and Cal, and so, they have to decide if it's them and Cal, or just them. Cal would then be forced to align with WSU and OSU. If Stanford does stick, then they will want to pick from the MWC. And so, 3 MWC teams will be left out.
Now, how that will come about...is the interesting part. Talk about a blood bath lol. 9 will vote out 3. Or..in 1 year or 17 million dollars later, 8 will vote out 2. Or 7 will vote out 1. It's a pecking order at this point, and MWC teams might have to start pecking away if Stanford and Cal turn a certain way and start courting their preferred. What happens to the dissolution vote requirements, I wonder, if 1 does leave by action of Stanford?
This is all theoretical of course..if it goes that way..
Stanford, instead of dropping Cal, might want to add SMU+and retry conference invites. But they might be told, "just them", and then Cal will decide if it's worth it to still pick from the MWC or just join them.
They'll just invite the three, Stanford can gtfo, and they'll invite someone like UTSA or UTEP

The Big 12 wants to expand to California and Yormark can bring Fresno State into the conference for a discounted rate of $10 million over three years, providing the conference with great value for their money.
It's unclear how the PAC and exit fees for the MWC will work; they may need to be creative. The Pac could roll with seven teams in 2024 if Stanford and Cal stay put, pay half of San Diego St fees, and get it reduced by a few million. Then you bring in two more MW teams in 2025.I don't see Stanford sticking around
I'm not sure why Fresno fans are all in on this narrative. I've seen it here and on twitter. Good luck I guess.
There's no way on God's green Earth Stanford will be a good partner in a league like the MWC, or in a poached and rebuilt PAC- 1

1. The MWC will likely keep all current teams and gain Oregon State and Washington State.
2. If Stanford and Cal remain in the PAC, the MWC conference could lose 2-3 teams.
3. If Stanford or Cal were to leave, the MWC could lose 4-5 teams if the PAC-12 stays intact with Oregon State and Washington State.
The Mountain West Conference will not dissolve, but the nine teams that cannot move up hope that Stanford and Cal leave the PAC so that scenario #1 can happen.
Three teams want scenario #2
I Prefer #1 until we get the BIG-12 invite
I don't get how the MWC teams leave with the 34 million thing.
Also, Fresno is not getting invited to the B12. They'll wait for the ACC teams like Pitt, Louisville, NC State, and VaTech to become available.- 2

If WSU and OSU join the MWC then we stay at 14. If Cal joins as well then we probably need to add one more to get to 16. I hope like hell that is as big as the MWC ever gets.
Getting to WAC16 vibes with more than that.
At least all the teams are closeby in your scenario -

Even Wilner is reporting that things are trending in favor of Cal and Stanford to the ACC.
Mhver3 is saying the plan to meet tomorrow and hold an actual vote.
This is still by far the best scenario for the MW. I’d imagine the merger with the pac 12 becomes the most likely outcome at the point.
Wilner hasn't been right about much during this cycle of realignment. Ironically all the people the PAC fans hated like Dodd, Jason Scheer, and McMurphy have been the ones who have been right. Hell, even guys like mvher and fluguar have been more right about things than douchers like Altimore, Clownzano, and Wilner.

Exactly. Make this all happen. Stanford leaves so we can pick up Fresno and other good athletic programs.
I know I'm just dreaming because Oregon State will never be a shot caller.
That being said, my dream would be getting the best athletic programs available and making them more money than they've ever had (by getting a great Apple deal) and seeing these high potential programs who have been stuck in "G5", the chance to live up to that potential. While also keeping Oregon State at a financial level where they can make less cuts to their athletic programs.
I feel bad for OSU and WSU. They got done dirty. I wish they were in the B12
Stanford and Cal? Don't feel bad for them one bit. They can eat shit and die.- 5

Someone said a couple hundred pages ago that all the schools are still on the hook for paying their comcast portion. Debt follows the teams, but the conference coffers do not is how I think it works.
It's going to have to come out of their distributions over time or lump sum.

Why would anyone pay to jump in bed with Stanford when they're gone the minute the phone rings? Why let them lead a re-org with not good football programs that no one will watch? Rice? Really? It's an athletic conference. Not a research conference.
You'd have to be an idiot to jump in bed with them. They don't view anyone here as peers. They'd leave for a bucket of chicken and a nickel.

With all do respect, college sports used to have a lot to do with academics. I am not defending the Cal snobbery, at the same time, I think this is why college athletics has gone off the rails. It’s all about the money.
No, they don't. Amateurism hasn't existed for a long time.
These are semi pro teams. They have little to nothing to do with academics.
