Army, Navy, Air Force are the tech triad of modern times in all industries everywhere period.

Now for some speculation on my end. I'm sure some of their Academic records are sealed. They'll probably always remained sealed. There isn't a chance non military personnel will see some documents. And then there is a chance that they will eventually see some. And then, there is a distribution chain of information..and guess who just happens to have a top communications program?

Legal grants can be given due to Academic association, or if there is any chance of that ever happening, you're looking at it.

To be clear, of course I think the MWC is the best option. You all are reading this, aren't you?

Some at OSU are dead set against the MWC and WSU+OSU have enough equity to go elsewhere. Thing is, these are tech schools, OSU especially, and they work alongside other techies, and the MWC has little of that. WSU fits culturally with the MWC but OSU does not. That's a wrong assumption you all have been having. I mean, the best tech school would be Fresno..San Jose? Those aren't tech schools lol. And I doubt WSU&OSU..that won't happen. Power of pac-2 assets will mean the offer for the set will be better than whatever offer there'd be for just one of us

Everything you post is dumb. They have no options. Where are they going to go?

If Colorado and Arizona are worth 62 million, then I would say Stanford, Cal, and SMU are worth at least 72 million.

I just don't get why ESPN didn't swoop in with an offer of 30 million a year to the Pac10 at the last minute.  They wound up paying that anyway.

I will be the first to admit that Stanford guy can be irritating as hell, but it is funny to watch all the Stanford haters bitter that the Cardinal just wrote a check to get themselves out of trouble.  It's like Wyle Coyote, Stanfordhater thought they finally had him....

    They aren't.

But they are if that's what breaks up the P12.

I was kind of hoping the Big 12 would grab OSU and Wazzu and create 3 6 team pods, with the western pod consisting of OSU, Wazzu Utah, BYU, AZ and ASU. Would have been a good group, and helped out the western teams with travel, particularly for the oly sports.

I think that would be fun but I'm interested in playing the Texas and Kansas teams and Oklahoma State too. Pods like would be 5 with your pod and 2 from each pod H/H every couple of years. That would be a lot of fun too. Looking forward to the B12 with Utah and the AZ schools. CU not so much

Yeah? Either way, I think this is a big win for the MWC.

If I was a USU fan (I kind of am, my wife went there), I would be thrilled with this development.

Huge win for the MWC if you add those two. Those will be some fun games. I'm a degenerate in the fall with how much I follow football and this will just make it more interesting to me.

We should eliminate no one. We should invite only those that wish to remain and build.

As long as I can see the conference on TV, I give zero fvcks about how much each school makes.

The notion that any of us will ever be put into a position to compete for a natty on an even playing field has long ago been put to rest.

How about we all agree to watch and enjoy college sports for the enjoyment  of watching college sports?

Maybe you guys should stop trying to leave the league twice a decade if that's the case.

Well, do you think the four corner schools are worth what they’re getting paid to join the Big 12?  Look at the tv ratings, those schools bring up the rear for the PAC.

For Pete sake, Stanford is  worth more than them.

Its weird how fox and ESPN are paying as much to have the PAC schools as they would have had to pay by keeping them together.

Anyway, I’ll dig up a link from a USC site.  It’s funny, because he said, “Stanford, you’re in a bad spot, you need to start writing checks to get into the ACC”.  And in the end, that’s exactly what they did.  Money lives and thinks differently than the rest of us.

I don't think anyone is worth what they're getting, except teams like Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, etc. Blue blood types. It's ridiculous that Vanderbilt and Purdue and Rutgers and whoever else are getting what they get on the shoulder of their conference cohorts who share their value with everyone else.

You guys seriously overvalue Stanford. the bootlicking that goes on here is hilarious to me, as if the favor is going to be returned because you guys defend their honor. They play a bunch of sports that nobody even fields teams in and chest pound over their "performance' in the Directors Cup. They have no fans, nobody gives a shit, they play in a boring, sterile, and largely empty stadium and the same goes for Cal. Stanford football and basketball aren't worth anything special and outside of Harbaugh and a couple years Shaw benefitted from Harbaugh, their historical norm is a losing record and bad football my entire life. I'd much rather associate with and play teams in the B12 or teams from here rather than have a steady slate of games with teams like Stanford and Cal.  Just because the school is rich doesn't mean their athletics teams are worth anything. Color me unimpressed. They're not a big deal.

I don't ever want to hear about the academic value of schools like Stanford and Cal again, they got left for dead in a 6 hours period a few Fridays ago and nobody gave one shit about their academic prowess when Oregon and Washing and the 4C schools were getting out of dodge as quick as they could. Academics have never mattered with regards to undergrad football in the NCAA, it's an illusion and the fact that stanford and Cal were nearly left behind should show everyone as much.

Good news for the MWC. With Cal, Stanford AND SMU gone, all options for WSU and OSU to fully or partially join with the AAC are officially off the table. Those two are certainly not heading to a diminished AAC with no Houston, no UCF, no Cinci and no SMU.

My guess is a full MWC merger and keep the PAC name and brand.

Welcome to the new PAC 14 — Beavs and Cougs!

    I think you'll absorb them.

Syracuse and Wake are for it.

They didnt get bailed out, they bought their way in.  Stanford was always going to get in the club one way or the other.

I don't get how it creates money to have them, even if they don't take much.

You don't need to convince me.

Academics as a driving force in college realignment is ridiculous

One of my gigs at HP was as a college recruiter (to Cal Poly) twice a year.  During the 5 yrs I did that, Cal Poly was the #1 school that HP signed employees from.   The Stanford engineers that did sign on couldn't design a power supply;  they thought they were heading straight into management.  No shet.  For a couple years HP just bypassed any recruit from Stanford that made it into the system from an on campus interview.

Industry knew you shouldn't hire a Stanford engineer to an entry position.  Because it's 'beneath' them. . .

but but but it's so amazing

    How could that be?

Not taking TV dollars for 7 years from a league which will in all likelihood lose P5 status in 2036 is crazy.

If I was Wake or NC State or Syracuse, I'd be pretty leery of adding them unless ND was willing to come on as a full member.

Depends.  Certain  Engineers get doors opened by the school....

The graduate programs seem to have more clout

I work with people all over the college spectrum. Nobody seems to really care where anyone went to school once you've done your medical training.

I get it might be different in other fields. The only reason I know anyone I work with went to Stanford is because they are eager to tell me within the first 15 minutes of meeting me.

    Depends.

They have several billionaire alumni, they just need one to decide to play the Uncle Phil role. If they would soften their admission standards a bit more, they would get top tier classes, and have done ok for the last few decades even without doing so. I know you dislike them, but the chance to earn a degree from Stanford is very attractive to kids, and even moreso to their parents.

Undergrad doesn't matter imo. Most cfb players aren't studying anything of note to start with. The Stanford undergrad degree is a mirage unless you're going to stay in the area.

Stanford will be fine regardless. They have a nearly $40B endowment and can fund all their sports even if they get no media money. I think it is most likely their football goes indy for a while and they find a home for their oly sports somewhere.

Cal, on the other hand, is a public University, and their athletic department was already deeply in the red. They are in danger of having to drop their football program.

Stanford hasn't shown they're very willing to jump in to NIL or the transfer portal, so I think they'll struggle in football regardless.
