A 2022 study conducted by researchers at the Oregon Health & Science University supports the notion that corporate ownership leads to higher prices.
The study, led by Jane Zhu, an OHSU assistant professor of medicine, found that after being bought out by private equity firms, clinics saw more patients and also billed them more. (The study did not determine whether patients’ health outcomes improved or suffered.)
