Most of the time yes but it hit them against Drake and you see small moments when they get big leads like today when they let up for a few minutes

I don't think they let up at all in this game.  TCU has a bunch of good players too.  The Pack won each half of a 40 minute game.  I am not sure there is much to criticize here.

Basketball's the bare minimum for an full fledged FBS or FCS league.  If that leaves, there's no conference to maintain.

Rules are for the little people.  This whole thing is flexible at the moment.  If it was as cut and dried as this they wouldn't do it.  OSU and Wazzu most likely want to drag as much money out as they can so they can buy a spot in the Big 12.  I do not anticipate a full merger or them joining the MW.  The plan is to get the cash.  They can use it to get into P4 or build the Pac back.  The 2 year grace period is the key.

To be an fbs conference you have to sponsor a full slate of sports.  Pac2 would no longer be doing that.

Is this part of the 2 year grace period to get to enough members to maintain a conference?  The MW also doesn't take members who don't play football and they blew off Wichita State but courted Gonzaga.. It is a mixed up jumbled up world.

In other news, according to a source, the sun will set in the West tonight.

Probably a stupid question.  If they actually "join" the MWC for basketball would they be on the hook for the exit fee when they leave to go back to poaching schools for the new Pac something or the other?

First off, SDSUfan should get this. There are two full articles on Lamont Butler. Second, they are extremely high on UNLV recruit Dedan Thomas. It reminds me of the way they were gushing about Tyson Deganhart two years ago... and they were right about him.

    1) SDSU (14)
    2) Boise (39)
    3) UNM
    4) UNR
    5) CSU
    6) UNLV
    7) SJSU
    8) Wyoming
    9) USU
    10) Fresno
    11) AFA

    1st team:
    Stevens, CSU
    Mashburn, UNM
    Blackshear, UNR
    Butler, SDSU
    Deggie, Boise (MW POTY)

    2nd team:
    House, UNM
    Rice, Boise
    Lucas, UNR
Thomas, UNLV (MW NOTY... I assume FOTY with the NOTY going to a transfer)
    Ledee, SDSU

    3rd team:
    Trammell, SDSU
    Hill, Fresno
    Agbo, Boise
    Sam Griffin (Tulsa transfer), Wyoming
    Nelly Junior-Joseph, UNM

    Best HS class:
UNLV (largely because of Thomas). Also mentions Boise, UNR, and SDSU. Surprised no UNM mention.

    Best Transfer class:
SDSU, but also mentions USU, Surprised no UNLV mention.

    MW 7th best conference

    NCAA bids (3):
SDSU, Boise, UNM. UNR seems a bubble team to them.

    Top 150 players:
    (43) Deggie, Boise
    (65) Stevens, CSU
    (105) Mashburn, UNM
    (109) Blackshear, UNR
    (135) Butler, SDSU
    (139) Thomas, UNLV
    (144) House, UNM

    Looks reasonable all around.

It’s literally the exact same premise, hence my analogy. If BYU is literally putting up big 12 logos in their facilities before they have joined the big 12 it is just like a homeowner trying to move into a house that they have not closed on yet. It is the exact same thing. Tell me how it’s not.

Literally?  BYU is not taking the Big 12 off the market during escrow.  The Big 12 is not worried about having to evict BYU should they become squatters.  There is no possible cloud on the title.

Getting back to realignment: why doesn't the Mountain West invite St. Mary's? They would balance the basketball/football ratio at 12/12. They are a good program with a good name. It would then force Gonzaga's hand as a WCC without St. Mary's and BYU is probably not somewhere Gonzaga wants to be.

How do you know they haven't?

You don’t acknowledge or address what was ever said though.  You ignore then respond with platitudes that equate to ‘like’ farming.  Your list of facts were either irrelevant or insufficient to rebuke anything I was talking about if you were paying attention for example...  Again it should come as no surprise to you that the remaining schools in a dying conference would reach out to gauge interest in joining, it’s called due diligence.  They approached the aac too but why don’t we hear their fans touting that I assume? Because it’s a nothing burger.

No one cares if the presidents of the MWC ultimately said they didn’t want to expand-It’s out of their hands.  Your conference just signed a new deal.  The tv partners aren’t changing it.  How many other conferences have completely changed the makeup of their own contracts to add schools lately? None.  Did you think they would acquiesce the MWC but not any others? The aac (and cusa to lesser extent) expansions were about maintaining current contracts. Tv partners aren’t looking at paying more money to g5 conferences when there’s such big inventory on the table now with the pac, big, sec all entering in negotiations.  The statement from the presidents is basically the scorned lover saying they didn’t like the other guy anyway after getting turned down. But whatever, die on that hill if you want.

Why is this so important to you?

You make a good point. With him getting older he might retire within the new few years. And if a New Commissioner comes in it could mean a net positive when it comes to new teams possibly coming

It will make no difference..The commissioner in the MW advises the presidents but has no vote on anything.

My point is that I think that I think it is 100% valid to take the stance of "We want to move up to FBS eventually, but only if we believe that we will be successful at the FBS level. If we don't think we think we will be successful in FBS, then we would rather stay in FCS." If that is what NDSU is thinking, it is perfectly reasonable not to join CUSA right now. That's probably not a good situation for them, so they'd rather wait until a better FBS opportunity presents itself. If it never does, continuing to dominate FCS would not be the end of the world, either.

Nobody knows what NDSU is thinking.  Outside of you and the folks in Fargo ND, I am not sure anybody cares,

I think you are missing my point, which is that even if you do have aspirations of moving up to FBS some day, it is better to wait for a good situation where you are more likely to be successful than to take the first offer that comes along and potentially crash and burn. If I were NDSU and wanted to go FBS at some time in the future, I would absolutely wait and hope that an invite to the MWC or even the MAC comes some day rather than jumping into the current incarnation of CUSA.

"IF" you really really really want to move up you have to be invited.  I do not think NDSU really really really wants to move up..I am not sure there was an invite from CUSA...I have doubts that the MW is looking to add any school moving forward even if a couple schools leave.  Neither the WAC or the MW has ever taken in a member directly from 1AA or FCS.  This is not a starter league.

Were I in charge at NDSU I wouldn't jump at CUSA either but I think I would also recognize that better conferences expressed zero interest in NDSU during this latest shuffle..

If, maybe, your only option is CUSA now, waiting around for a better option might never be coming.

Well, I could slam the door on my fingers repeatedly, smoke meth, or listen to Tucker Carlson. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Making the jump to FBS is always going to be a risky move for a school like NDSU with a very small market/endowment. I can't fault them for whatever for the right situation before making the jump (or simply never making the jump at all). The Montana schools have had plenty of opportunities to move to FBS but haven't taken them because of concerns that they don't have the population and resources to be competitive at the FBS level. I am inclined to agree with the NDSU administration that joining CUSA right now is probably not the right move for their program.

Some young reporter who covers Southern Mississippi broke this story that NDSU turned down a CUSA football only invitation.  It has been denied by the AD and president of NDSU.  So this may be some hullabaloo about nothing.

However, you missed my point.  I do not know the mindset in Fargo but if you really really really want to move up to FBS you do what you need to do.  FCS schools have to be invited.  That is how you get it started.  I am unconvinced they want to move up anyway.
