Did you develop this thought before or after the replacement teams went to the final four and cfb playoff? In case you haven’t noticed texas isn’t good and it’s not changing any time soon.  OU will be missed but the four teams added have contributed more than any of the leftovers have aside from Baylor’s run in basketball.  Of course even that is still better than what the PAC has done.

PAC12 finished 13-5 In the NCAA mens basketball tournament last year, with 3 schools advancing to the elite 8. That’s a a record for number of credits won in a single tournament by a conference ($36 million in one tournament). You should stick to what you know Orlando Beach front property and the Waffle House value menu

It's sure big here in SLC. Two FT stations and one PT sports talk.

And yea, I'm an old guy

I'm sorry you have to endure SLC sports talk, I find it awful. Maybe its better in San Diego. Locally its a lot of baiting fan bases (BYU/Utah) to try and anger listeners and drum up customers.

I agree with @Someone Else local sports talk radio is a dying industry

Nobody in the MWC cared about TCU when they were added.  Turned into a great conference game and a successful arrangement.

if by successful arrangement you mean they kicked everyone in the MWC ass for 3 straight years. :surrender:

From 2008-2011 they went 22-2 in conference.

  4. thanks for allowing me to vent here a little bit ...

in a range of different emotions one thing stands out that I can’t stop thinking about. My friend who passed away yesterday was generous to a fault, and never wanted to be a bother or put people out in any way.

I don’t think he had the foresight to realize his choice to not vaccinate lead directly to putting a burden on the hospital staff that treated him, the paramedics that tried to revive him and the hundreds of people connected to him that loved, worried and cared about him. His personal choice became not so personal in the last 10 days of his life.

  5. I am gutted today.

A friend who had been hospitalized with COVID but was sent home with oxygen to recover at home stopped breathing yesterday and passed away. The paramedics couldn't revive him.  He had no other health problems, but chose not to be vaccinated. He was 51. This will be my 4th COVID funeral this year.

An unvaccinated older husband and wife of the retired tennis group I play with have been absent several weeks because of Covid. They returned today and said they had slight fevers and bad colds and were down for about a week, but gradually got better.

Not everyone dies from Covid. Actually the vast majority recover.

we've been running errands/preparing meals for an unvaccinated family that are friends of ours in our neighborhood. They got COVID last week. The husband went into the hospital last Friday and was released at home with oxygen on Sunday. The wife has had mild symptoms but is missing her 2nd week of work. The daughter tested negative and is staying elsewhere to be safe. The sons COVID has also morphed into pneumonia and he's also on supplemental oxygen. They will all likely recover (hopefully no long term affects), but had they chosen to get the vaccine, odds are so much better that they wouldn't have had to suffer as much and aren't out the $$$ for medical expenses. Their facebook posts are full of regret about being stubborn about getting the shot. We'll see if this changes their ultra conservationism long term. I doubt it.

I hate to say it, but in the past we've been able to put our political differences aside when we got together, but this will likely hinder our relationship with them. Simply because my wife's health requires her to be extra careful with this virus, social distancing, etc. Also the hundreds of people who are connected to them, have stressed and worried about them, especially when the father had to be taken to the hospital. They made a dumb-ass selfish decision that has costs.

I also had a friend die last week who was vaccinated, but had a previous medical condition that left him vulnerable. He spent 6 weeks in the hospital before he finally passed. You never know with this scary stuff

Apologies for the long post, but this shit has been heavy on my mind as I'm grieving for a good friend.

Honestly I've always scratched my head at Hawaii not being the PAC.  Honolulu is a big city and travel would not be as terrible as say Texas

isn't Honolulu compromised of transplants from the U.S. and Asia that don't have ties to the university? Granted a lot of those are wealthy transplants with some discretionary income to burn, and some of those would fund/attend/watch Hawaii athletics, but when you filter out the population that doesn't care about college football, I think that hinders PAC12 expansion to paradise

  8. doesn't a lot of whether the Big XII expands further depend on Fox Sports (or other entities) seeing an opportunity to make money in the college football/basketball market? I still think that's very much in flux right now and on hold till the next round of media rights start to unfold. I believe college football greatly outdraws TV viewers over every other sport except the NFL and so there is potentially great value.

It also depends on ESPN potentially having a monopoly on the product and whether other entities want to play and to what level. I hope they do it would be great for the sport for ESPN to have competitors.

    What rivalry ?

As @Utenation keeps pointing out, Utah has dominated the rivalry and won 9 straight.

That's not a rivalry. That's just another game in your schedule.

    See Ohio St - Michigan.

basketball has been a different story. BYU clearly has been the better program over the last 5 years

    Probably none.

A few years ago I would have said, "Maybe Boise."  But this isn't coach Pete's Broncos we are speaking of.

AA might end up being a great coach.  We won't know for year or two.

BSU doesn't really bring anything to the table other than good football, and now even that is a question mark.

In the MW, SDSU is probably the most deserving.   I'm not sure about SMU & Memphis in the AAC.  Other than those three, who else is even in the conversation?

it took Utah 7 years to finally hit .500 in conference in the PAC12 in football and we're only barely above that mark 10 years in

OOC Utah is 27-1 during that same time
