  1. So shocked that TBSUF hasn't brought up Gatlin Bair, a recruit that BSU didn't get! Also, just a note: I'm obviously an incredibly subtle TBSUF, baiting this thread for Gatlin Bair content from the much more obvious TBSUFs! #sneaky
  2. I'm definitely no expert when it comes to assessing what level a college basketball team is at, but after watching Boise State lose to UNLV and Utah State and beat SDSU and UNM recently, Boise State didn't look terrible losing but they looked pretty pedestrian winning! I mean Max Rice plays out of his head against the Lobos but wasn't making spectacular shot selection decisions nor were his teammates moving the ball around so quickly that the opposition couldn't keep up...he just got hot and that won't mean near as much in the tournament. To me that means that almost all of this conference can win or lose to middle-of-the-road type teams (like Boise State in my mind), but will definitely lose to more "basketball-y" teams, i.e., teams that have some true strengths (and ugly weaknesses too!), not just teams that have a lucky night or hot streaks. Given where I think the teams of this conference are in relation to the NCAA Tourney, if 4 make it in, I'd think it would be a success if the MWC won 2 first round games and one 2nd rounder. Anything after that is gravy or matchup related IMHO. I mean if Boise State, who I see as the 4th or 5th best team in the MWC, can beat SDSU, New Mexico and Colorado State, I just don't see the top of the MWC able to have a high percentage of success against any tournament-qualified teams.
  3. Transfer portal hitting Washington pretty hard...immediately after playing in the Championship! #whodathunk? No Scholarship QBs at Washington
  4. I like to think about it this way: What school would it be worth $50 million to be rid of? A couple immediately spring to mind...
  5. Don't care where Boise State is ranked this season because I find the below way more entertaining than competing for the MWC crown!
  6. I thought I'd pick a random, mid-season game to take a look at QB stats, so I picked Boise State v. Colorado State... Jeanty ran for 212 yards and Boise State LOST to CSU! Taylen was 5-8 for 28 yards (!) with an INT and 3 carries for 11 yards. Madsen was 10-16 for 110 yards and also with a pick. Both suck and Malachi is potentially better than both of these sub par options. Green was disappointing because if nearly any other QB had his physical measurements, athletic abilities and Jeanty + the OLine Boise State had against primarily MWC defenses, a decent QB should have ridiculous stats, like 7 for 8 for 4 TDs and 200 yards passing and 100+ yards rushing when you didn't hand the ball to Jeanty (or Halani) and ran yourself! I think Dirk Koetter understood this...
  7. Any chance of getting Gatlin Bair back if the QB signs? He's on a 2-year mission right?
  8. I dunno...he obviously knew what he needed to improve at Boise State as well but really didn't improve significantly (from my far-less-than-professional viewpoint). Continued to throw off of his back foot, weird throwing motion and I didn't think he handled blitzes all that well, other than using his unreal athleticism to avoid them occasionally. Like many have said, unbelievable athlete that was a huge threat running the ball. But needed to be more of a consistent threat throwing the ball as well. Just my humble opinion, but if you can run like that AND have George Holani AND Austin Jeanty in the backfield behind a decent offensive line, your throwing stats should be crazy, like 12 of 15 for 200 yards with 3 TDs (to wide open receivers) and no picks per game kind of stats! He'll either switch positions at Arkansas or be that QB that comes in on certain plays/situations specifically as a running threat. Don't see him as QB1 in the SEC (or any other Power Conference) without incredible growth in his passing game that he didn't show at Boise State.
  9. There is no "Best of the Rest" any longer with the potential of joining any configuration of a group of Power college football programs. The actual "Best" have so separated themselves financially from "The Rest" that the best of those remaining don't even come close to becoming "Power" anything and closing the door behind themselves, to paraphrase. The best example is the quick disintegration of Washington State and Oregon State once they joined the ranks of "The Rest"...coaches cherry picked, one-way portal traffic, nobody giving them an invite, no media clamoring for their rights, etc. There's no "Best" left for those two programs. We all know that within a few years of merging with the MWC, Oregon State and Washington State will become average MWC programs with no shine of Power Conference left on them, except for perhaps a few aging facilities from "back in the day". The real Best just simply said goodbye and turned off the life support equipment before they closed the door behind them! FWIW, the last, best chance for a true ascending-to-Power-Conference level Best of the Rest was the MWC before TCU, Utah and BYU bailed and including a "too late" invite of Boise State.
  10. Even worse than that to me...the team's that "earned" the bowl game are NOT the same teams playing in the bowl game. The portal, sitting out for injury avoidance, coaches leaving, conferences changing, NIL contract doesn't pay on "additional" TBD games <sarcasm>, etc. College football is racing towards maximum suckosity!
  11. It's ridiculous at this point. The Power schools (and their NIL Committees - not formally associated with the school of course!) go shopping at the G5 schools though the portal and skim the best players. Someone in this thread said (paraphrasing), "Yeah but, G5s will get the 2nd stringers of the Power schools that want immediate playing time through the portal!" Even if totally true that the G5 will get some return through the portal - and IMHO it isn't - still a significant net positive for the Power schools. They're "buying" players that have basically auditioned for their new owners against D1 competition. The G5 schools get to find out why their potential transfer wasn't getting playing time! I'm basically done with college football...it continues to hurtle in a direction that makes it not rewarding to watch for me. I can watch the NFL, have a better product and not want to vomit over what it's become. Sad.
  12. The Modern Era Boise State fans kinda don't understand that a Head Coach like Petersen is generational for almost any program, let alone a G5. A QB like Kellen Moore, with his football IQ and ability to execute what that big football brain sees on the field is also a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Then add the extraordinarily high level of the surrounding talent, the foundation that was built prior to Petersen/Moore and you have exactly what Boise State experienced: An unbelievable, unduplicable run of excellence well beyond their means (emphasis on "unduplicable"!) On top of the above, the game has changed even further in favor of the "haves". Boise State's hiring of Spencer Danielson is a good thing and from the appropriate coaching "talent pool" level that they can realistically draw from.
  13. No idea what to think of Boise State this year. They could slobber knock UCLA or vice versa. Entertaining season nonetheless!
  14. It may be you that's actually taking some mind-altering substance...
  15. Not sure that this is the case here, but most Boise State fans are very hesitant about buying away game/bowl game tickets through the school's "reserve". They've learned through repetition, especially on special games like bowl games or this away championship, that there are much better seats to be had at similar prices than through the school's stockpile. Regardless, wouldn't surprise me if Boise State has a soft fan showing for this one...worst season in memory, with a game against a non-rival, historically meaningless conference football program for the MWC Championship. Not that interesting of a narrative, with the eventual Champion to be dubbed "Least Loser-Like of the Mountain West".
  16. That'll drop a bit after Saturday as well. This is one of the matchups (Jeanty/Holani vs. UNLV Run Defense) that makes me think the game will be a good one, with a slight lean in Boise State's favor. *Disclaimer: I'm a BSU honk!
  17. Apparently it leaked what San Joser is handing out to team members/coaches/etc. during the UNLV/Boise State MWC Not-The-Championship Viewing Party:
  18. He's a Scientologist, like Petersen.
  19. While I enjoy making fun of the Spartans football program, respect for the semi-obscure Mad Men reference!
  20. Unfortunately, smarter people have already thought of that...here's the statue already completed for unveiling! (So the joke doesn't go over anyone's head - won't name names! - image below is very famous fallen angel statue in Spain):
  21. Sounds great! I hereby declare UNLV the MWC digital champion...now I don't have to watch the almost-assured travesty! Totally off topic, but I understand the World Cup won't be played next time and they'll just go with the last team ratings prior to the now-obsolete schedule and declare the champion! Way more fun and accurate than settling things on the field! <sarcasm>
  22. Here's hoping it all ends correctly in a 0-0 tie with no Mountain West Conference Champion declared!
