3rd string QB and an OC without a clue. Our Oline coach has been resting on his allegiance that he is Aztec Alum (absolutely lack of results from Oline for 5 years or more-RB's have largely done it on their own) and (see previous comment) our ST coach does NOT have these kids buying in.

We need some coaching changes or we will continue to underperform. That was a game in which we should have smoked the Puffs.

Finally, someone mentions it, thank you.

Rocky would have led to these same results.

Exactly. Love RL, but the fact that we have little talent at the QB position, happened on his watch. I have no idea how good our OC is because at the most critical position on the offensive side of the ball he has no one to run the show.

Having coached HS FB for over 20 years, I can tell you how much easier things are when you have a competent person taking the snap. Once you lose that, the playbook gets thinner and thinner as you try to find something the QB can execute with some degree of confidence.

It's hard to do a lot with the X's and O's when you don't have the Jimmy's and Joes.

Aztec pregame show talked about three top P5 QBs and 5 wrs that are San Diego boys. Because the Aztecs prefer to run, the top recruits leave town.

Just got to roll our sleeves up and sell the future of the program and the school, and who’s going to be the one to step up and take SDSU to the next level.

Common sense tells me that you're at less risk when you can be sitting 20 feet away from someone in a 30k person outdoor stadium than at Walmart or for that matter ordering food at Chik Fil A. But that's just me.

But you have to admit the drive thru process there is a thing of beauty in its efficiency 😁

I hope they found a way to remove the soccer lines from the field before this game is shown in the most popular time slot on broadcast television....

If we put on a good game, how soon until the SEC calls both of us up to the Big Boy League? 😉

Please start Lucas Johnson, so we can at least look like his legs might be the reason we can't pass the ball.

We may set the offensive game of football back 50 years in either case, and on the Big Boy network 😂

Not only is Johnson the better runner, but given his history in the triple option he knows how to read a defender and make the quick decision to give or keep. As you know, that’s worth a lot in the run game alone.

I can’t imagine Johnson being much worse in the pass game than what we’ve seen thus far. So long as he makes good decisions he’ll be good. He needs that Rocky talk of “if you throw an int you’re sitting on the bench”.  I’m ready for the change.

Yes, his ability to read the option man, and keep him honest, should keep backside pursuit to a minimum.

If you would've told me when I was a little kid watching Coryell's Aztecs lighting up the skies with their aerial circus that one day we would struggle to throw the ball, I would have bet all my Aztec pennants and ball caps on that in a heartbeat! Funny, back then, I used to wonder if we would ever be able to run the ball :D

I think it was just a function of a weird situation. The top 3 forwards in our pool weren't available, so it was probably just a one off experiment. I don't think it'll happen again.

Very much so, this team is completely different from the one who failed to qualify in 2017. 5 years ago I was doing cartwheels when an aging Fabian Johnson was playing for a Champions League club. Right now we have 10 players on Champions League clubs, most of which aren't old enough to drink in this country yet.

And even in non Champions League situations you have guys like Sargent in The Bundesliga, Robinson in The Premier League, and Musah in La Liga (though he may end up playing for England)

Okay, next question. Didn't Klinsmann get himself into hot water for suggesting our players should be playing in Europe? And aren't our most talented players doing that? So was Klinsmann right?

Typical American gray hair here, grew up playing football, baseball and basketball. Just a fairly new fan to futbol, (I'll take in a Premier League game on the weekends, and I'll watch a Champions League match if I recognize the teams playing,) trying to figure things out as I go.

A 9 is a striker. Playing with a false 9 means you basically play without a striker, and throw an extra midfielder into that striker role.

We have a shit load of talent in the midfield, but are really lacking in the forward department. So it wasn't the worst idea in the world to try it.

The experiment failed though, we got shutout trying it (despite dominating possession) and today we went back to having a normal striker up top. We scored 6 goals

How much of that is a function of playing Wales versus playing Panama? I’m assuming that Wales is a much tougher opponent.

I caught the Panama match. I was impressed w how fast and athletic we looked.

Is this a true changing of the guard for the USMNT? Or will we see the same faces again as the next WC approaches?

A closer look inside the stats

    Chase Cordeiro 15 - 35 passing 209 yards, 1 TD, 1 pick six.

Deduct the TD pass and it reveals how dominating the Aztec D was 14 - 34 134 yards. 20 carries 20 yards.

Hawaii defense was pretty darned stout as well. Take away the TD runs and Aztec rushing totals were fairly pedestrian.

    49 carries 243 yards.

Big plays on both sides of the ball coupled with capitalizing on turnovers made the difference.

That’s nearly 5 yds per carry. You’ll win a lot of FB games with numbers like that. Now if we could match that w a couple hundred yards though the air, and we’d be a very good looking FB team.

Well you do not recruited by Georgia tech as QB if you can not run, Evan if he is only 55% passer he will make the team better.

Hands down we all know he’s the better runner. Does the fact that Baker has been starting, tell us more than we want to know about Johnson’s  ability as a passer? 🤔

Hawaii did shut your run game down to an extent. Hawaii actually had 15 tackles for losses. Minus the 3 big runs I think force you to pass the ball more.

15 tackles for losses is almost unheard of.

We did rush for over 300 yards, yes? 😉

    3rd and 9 and we run...Good God.

Given what he did on his previous pass, would you have risked another pick at midfield? Something that would've crossed my mind if I was calling plays.

Well, Kelly is an idiot shill for the local anti-CSU crowd, so his stuff is irrelevant.  The HC coaches the special teams, and he clearly needs to turn that duty over to a GA or maybe just pick a ST roster and let the players coach themselves...it would be an improvement.

LMAO at Fresno fan with the new light bulbs and Sparty with half a stadium deciding to talk facilities.  Budget smack??  Do your third world universities even know what a budget is?

A budget? In CA? Surely you jest? 😂
