I get your trepidation. When AA was let go, I thought for sure JD would hire an experienced head coach. But he simply couldn’t ignore what SD did—becoming the first interim head coach to win a conference championship in college football history. In today’s environment, that was an impressive audition, and the team was all-in.
Had JD gone away from the guy who steadied the ship during the most tumultuous in-season period in Boise State history, the players would likely have hit the portal en masse, leaving whoever JD hired instead to build from nothing. That would have been like Nevada’s roster after Norvell left. Cannot win starting from scratch. We have the talent to become dominant again right away…not worth losing it because another coach looked better on paper.
