  1. No one said that the title is all that matters. But before this proposal, SJSU had exactly "zero" chance of doing anything in the playoffs. With this latest development, we might have only moved the needle a scant amount, but it's enough to get us across the proverbial "line in the sand" (the one that formerly all but excluded us from competing in the first place). And try telling the kids that play that they shouldn't be able to complete for the highest level of championship. Or that they should never aspire to anything beyond a 4th tier Bowl game. And Athletic Departments? Sure, let's
  2. So you'd rather have no hope at all? Being realistic is fine and dandy, but I'm of the belief that a really good G5 entrant, if the seeding is favorable (random, I know), could make it to at least a National Semi-Final. And sooner than you think...
  3. My (admittedly quick) takeaway from all of this is that a 12 team playoff arrangement is good for the MWC and the G5, in general. On the flip side, I could also see scheduling for G5's becoming more difficult. Those teams below the 1st (and perhaps 2nd tier) of the overall college football hierarchy will likely try to schedule up, which ultimately may mean fewer P5 games available for the G5's...
  4. Floyd got paid good dough to dance (and not hurt the schlep) for all those rounds...

  6. Rahm shot himself in the foot by not vaccinating sooner, but this is a tough one. But for the Covid-positive test, clearly, Cantlay and Morikawa were playing for second yesterday. I don't know Patrick's finances, but I think I would've liked him offering to dole out half of his winnings to a charity of Rahm's choice...
  7. My stepfather bought us court-side seats to a Warriors game in the mid-late 80's. Only time I've ever been on the floor at an NBA game (IIRC, cost were $75.00 per). Jazz were the opponent. I remember standing up pre-game, i.e., as Eaton came to the end of Utah's "layup" drill line. You know, to see how his height compared to mine. JFC, that man was a freaking MOUNTAIN (apologies to my GOT brethren here) and just DWARFED me (I'm "only" 5'11 and 1/2). Still, it was so cool to see that guy in person. Appreciated his defense over the years, too. Ultimately, sad news here. RIP...
  8. Symbolic that a fan with the word "Judge" on his back is showing the Twice-Impeached-Orange-Shit-stain acolyte the (double) bird here. After all, this is effectively how every U.S. Court Judge reacted (ruled) when faced with the pathological liar's attorneys' Kindergarten level legal arguments over a period of a few months earlier this year...

  10. Phil had the expected Major Hangover today in Texas (+3) in Round 1 at Colonial - not too surprising. He takes two weeks off (plus probably this weekend) before the U.S Open at Torrey Pines. Needs to work on driving accuracy - even with that 2 Wood of his that seemed to work so well last week at Kiowa. It's extremely unlikely that he wins the U.S. Open in a few weeks, but what an amazing story that would be. Would make his PGA win look relatively tame in comparison (completing the career Slam, all the while exorcising his numerous past demons in the tournament where he has had 6 runner-up

  12. Occasionally, you can find a really good one at a nicer restaurant. Ate a killer burger in Sonoma a few years back at “the girl & the fig”. A superb concoction that was super juicy and needed no other condiments. Brioche bun was a nice touch, so this was a French place. Probably cost about $15.00. Expensive, I know, but worth every last penny (bite). Excellent fries, too...

  14. You're kind of living in the past. Jury sequestering is dying out - even in high profile cases. There are a lot of issues articulated in just this one 2017 article (Bill Cosby trial). https://www.thecut.com/2017/06/sequestered-jury-psychological-toll-cosby-trial.html Think of the "withdrawals" a sequestered juror has to go through nowadays. Not only with family, but with all social media and, especially, their smartphone. Sounds silly, but you try going 3, 4, 5 weeks without that (let alone being around family). Good luck with that one. Like it or not, we ALL probably have pr
  15. JFC, I’m so tired of reading about this stuff. We are a phucked-up “free” society, to say the least...
  16. You should definitely watch Schindler's, but, man, Goodfellas is an absolute must. I have yet to come across anyone (male) that hasn't thought it was a damn good movie...
  17. Ditto. Just watched "Mank", the b/w film starring Gary Oldman, who played the (alcoholic) writer of that movie. As a story it was hard to watch, but Oldman's acting chops have never been in doubt. Whatever level of disinterest I had in the story aside, the dude is just a really, really good actor. I guess the point here is that watching that film has actually had the opposite intended effect that I had hoped for: instead of having a greater desire to watch Citizen Kane, the net result is that sitting through that movie has (significantly) lessened it. Go figure...

  19. The fentanyl argument was really shredded today, too. Tobin said you go into a coma if you OD on that. However, he said in no uncertain terms that Floyd did NOT go into a coma...
  20. Yes there is. Fair enough...
  21. Yeah. Nelson was choking in his cross, both figuratively and literally. Trying to get Tobin to stipulate that the circumstances could change by the millisecond was sort of a “Captain Obvious” statement - you know, about life in general. I mean, I can’t recall specifics, but Tobin shut him down on more than one occasion...
  22. Assuming too much? Hardly. Tobin made a lot of scientific assertions, all of which appeared to be well-established. I think the prosecution was wise to not bury the jury in minutia in that regard, but if push comes to shove, I have no doubt that his widely-held positions can be further established, if necessary. I mean, the defense sort of shit the bed in its cross examination of him. Just watch/listen to it. They made no headway against his testimony whatsoever... IMO, that doesn’t bode well for their own “experts” down the road because, again, Tobin came across as both honest and ve
  23. They were indeed shot to hell. For those commenting here and that didn’t actually listen today, IMO, you really missed out on some of the most compelling testimony you could ever expect to hear. I mean, I learned a lot today on the subject of breathing and didn’t even “want to” you know? it was nevertheless pretty enlightening... Although the circumstances surrounding the need for said testimony is the absolute shits of the world (what Floyd had to endure was sheer torture, plain and simple), I find it hard to believe there will be enough to refute all that was said by Tobin today.
