2024 Mountain West Conference Softball thread

Maybe you should re-read Haywards bio & consider it to Demore's. There's no comparison. Garza left after school had started so there was no choice & Demore did a good job of holding Garza's team together. If Garza had left 2 months earlier Demore would not have been hired as HC with her thin resume. Hayward was an All-American & Bronze medal winner with team Canada. Coached at LSU, SDSU (their best team ever) & Wa. If any SDSU folks are around maybe they can give us their opinion. -

Nevada wins the elimination game against CSU. 2-1. Fr speedster Bailie Clark hits an inside the park homer. In the 2nd game against UNLV the ladies win 8-0 in a 5 inning game. Mighty 5'1" Bailie Clark hits her 2nd HR of the day only this time she could jog around the bases. -

The Broncs looked pretty good against the Pack. They'll get pumped up again in the tournament. -

Games this weekend SDSU/UNLV & FSU/NM. If SDSU wins 1 game they're champs unless UNLV sweeps & they're champs. However, If FSU also sweeps they have the tiebreaker over UNLV. If Nevada wins yesterday to sweep SDSU & UNLV wins 1 they would have been champs but that's off the table now. Best guess SDSU wins 1 or more to take the championship & the rest of us are looking at tournament seeding. -

The TV announcers are pretty good. The color was by a former softball player that is on their staff. I agree on a previous announcer. He can't shut up, continuously running off at the mouth with inane comments. He's been hanging around Reno sports for years. I thought we had finally gotten rid of him but he showed up to announce a softball game the last week or so. -

A tv station broadcast the games locally but they are still supposed to provide the feed to the MW network. They've televised games before with no problems but maybe that's what screwed it up? -

I was looking at the Nevada schedule & it looks odd. We play everybody but we have a 2 game series against SJSU on Sat & Sun, why not Fri.? We have a doubleheader against USU, midweek? Why not start the conference a week earlier so that everybody plays a full series? -

Thanks 7454 for putting in the effort & time for doing this. Very much appreciated for us SB fans.. -
So if 9 MW schools vote to disband that would be the end of the MW? I'm guessing the Pac12 didn't have that provision? Otherwise there would be no point in the twins holding out to gain Pac assets or for us to join them?

BTW, the 2nd 1/2 of the interview is at the bottom of the page. I missed it at 1st.

Isn't that which caused the airport meeting?
-
Which reminds me. OSU & WSU, with rare exception, have been at or near the bottom of their conference for the last 100 years. Very few of their Oly teams have made the national scene? MWC schools have beaten them. Will the Pac name really carry cache when all the well known teams are gone? Is the media really clamoring to be able to televise them? There's a reason they got left behind. My point is this. I'd be very happy to see them in the MW, but we need to keep it in perspective.

They're good now but for a 100 years they were not very good. What happens when the coach leaves?
-
Seems OSU/WSU don't have a lot of choices. Join the MWC or create a new Pac conference with MW & AAC members? It's inevitable that they tie into the MW in some way. The presidents & ADs have to consider the entire athletic dept. We're FB fans but they have huge numbers of Oly players/teams that they also have to consider. What do they do with Oly sports? Trying to find enough independent games for all those sports would be virtually impossible. Seems to me the most logical answer is to have their Oly sports have an independent schedule with the MWC, scheduling as if they were members, while still maintaining Pac status. The MW would have to have an agreement that FB & all the other sports would officially join the MW as full members in 2 years. BTW, I think we should charge them say, $10 million each to join for saving their butts. All the movement has been because of media dollars. It's the fad right now to have giant conferences but unless they add money to the media TV contract I don't see the advantage of adding AAC schools.
