  1. Does he have any experience in fundraising from 1% motorcycle gangs? That could come in useful in Fresno.
  2. Christ, Texas can't even back up that kind of boast.
  3. No need. I've seen Deliverance.
  4. So, essentially ASU just gave its athletic department the largest subsidy in the history of college sports. Perhaps the AAU might want to reconsider their decision..
  5. Watch how quick the current SCOTUS turns on a dime when the issue becomes one of employer vs. employee rights.
  6. If the players are employees, there will just be stipulations on outside income written into their contracts.
  7. I don't really have too much connection to UNLV to have an informed opinion, plus I haven't lived in LV since high school.. My mother was an administrator there for several years, but she's long retired. For me, it was the local team that I rooted for in middle school and high school. My gut opinion is the trust fund girl thinks that the foundation donations entitle her to run the university, and she's throwing a tantrum because somebody told her no. Ohio State just went through something similar when Les Wexner (something like 250M in lifetime donations) ran off an incredibly accomplished President who wouldn't turn their medical center into the personal fiefdom for he and his wife. For her replacement, they had to settle for the guy at Nebraska who's background was as a Naval officer and had never run an AAU university before. And it's looking as if he's in way over his head. It's a tricky balancing act. Universities need the big donors, but they need to have the will to keep them at arm's length at the same time..
  8. Carnegie isn't a ranking, and they'll be the first to tell you that. It's a classification, and as others have pointed out, there are many decidedly mediocre universities that Carnegie classifies as R1.
  9. I don't know how legit the allegation is, but Butker certainly fits the profile of a guy who spends a lot of time at highway rest areas.
  10. Any school that isn't open admissions already has different academic standards for athletes. Everyone absolutely does it, not just a bunch of P4 schools. Reno and UNLV reject barely 10% of their applicants, but I'll bet that both have a bunch of football players that would be in that 10%.. Average SAT at Michigan and Ohio State is 1450 and 1400 respectively., and I doubt that their average for football players comes within 400 points of that., and both hide their athletes out in sports management and kinesiology majors to stay eligible. Remember Harbaugh whining that his coaches wouldn't let him major in History, telling him there was no way he could keep up with the reading. And the Ivies/Stanford do the same thing in their own way too--remember the Varsity Blues scandal. Where I think you're on to something is that I could see the P4 scrapping the student-athlete model (charade based on how you look at it) entirely. An athlete who wants a scholarship will get one, but it won't be required.
  11. Huh? So, the big will no longer be an "academic conference" but CUSA will be?
  12. It's a shame Bob Kustra isn't around. He would be shutting down academic departments and even entire colleges to transfer the money to the NIL fund. That man had his higher education priorities straight..
  13. Could be a lot worse. The President who didn't care enough about athletics to get involved and the toxic AD are both gone while Sandoval comes out looking very good. Some troubling things definitely went on, but I came away with the view that current leadership is on the ball and fixing things as quickly as G5 money will allow.
  14. I just found out that one of the primary movers for this pipe dream is Gordon Gee...Gordon Gee who was unceremoniously run off from his second stint at Ohio State and has now made an absolute mess of the job at WVU. I see why he's doing it, to take the focus off the fact that his own faculty just gave him a vote of no confidence. What I have a problem seeing is how any rational person could really believe that the B1G and SEC have any desire to promote 30 other schools to be their equals and dilute both their power and revenue. Riddle me that?
