    It’s official, Gonzaga staying put

I knew there were reasons I wanted us to move to this conference.

This - this is why I give a lot more credence to a move for Gonzaga (in general) happening sooner rather than later. At the end of the day, it feels better for the WCC to be rid of GU (so other teams have a chance to advance) and it's better for GU to be thinking about the future of the program since due to the evolution of the CBB landscape. It's been pretty steadily shifting towards washing out mid-majors in general with the P5 starting to play 20 game league schedules and hedging exposure during the non-con. The only way to really stay relevant as a program for Gonzaga, and for mid-major conferences in general is to look for in-sport "power" conferences a-la Big East and AAC. For GU, I suspect we're too far west for either of those to be an option, leaving the MWC the most viable. Overall I'm hoping to be out of the WCC sooner rather than later, as it just doesn't feel sustainable in its current form.

Man... So I decided to pop over and take a gander at what Gonzaga might be getting itself into, and stumbled into this amazing monstrosity of a thread. So with this in mind - it would be great to get some inside takes, and I apologize if this has been asked/answered before, but outside SJSU and AF, where do you feel the conference is headed, and what do you think are the upsides/downsides to the conference as a whole? If your school wasn't already a member, would you want them in the conference? Does anyone here have any insight if this will happen or not? I've heard from some it's a done deal, but from others that it's just a negotiating move by GU to get more $$$ from the WCC. From a fan/GU alum point of view, I really enjoyed the SDSU and UNM runs of the early 2010's and have been a fan of the conference since then. It would be a great step up from the WCC and I'm hoping to see you all next year.
