  1. Ohio's interesting. The Dems run a staunch New Deal/Bernie progressive for Senate, and they win. They run a bland corporatist, Clinton-Obama centrist for Governor, and they lose.
  2. When I was growing up in Reno, everyone called it UNR. It's still my first impulse, but I usually check it so as not to offend the Nevada purists.
  3. No, you could never call the guy who hasn't read a book since childhood and whose advisers have to put his name in every paragraph of his briefing papers to keep him reading stupid. Now, I'll grant that he possesses a certain cleverness in discerning the zeitgeist of the moment and knack for latching onto what a broad swath of the public is looking for and riding that train to the end. That being said, I don't consider him to be intelligent in the least.
  4. It doesn't matter. They're being given a free education by the taxpayers and are allegedly supposed to hold themselves to a higher standard than some frat boys at Chico State. Get rid of them before they really screw something up. I'm sure that our 800B military budget will allow us to find a some new army guys to replace them.
  5. Google the phrase "Holder Doctrine." That's the legal doctrine that Eric Holder came up with while an assistant AG in the second Clinton administration. It, essentially, posits the idea that the primary determinant in whether to criminally prosecute a corporation or any executive of that corporation should be the effect on shareholder value rather than any actual....you know....criminal activity. They're two sides of the same bought and paid for coin. The Democrats will give Wall Street 97% of what it wants while thumping their chest as the party of Main Street while the Republicans will give then 105% of what they want while calling the Democrats "socialists." Call it good cop/bad cop or Kabuki Theatre, but at the end of the day it's corporate oligarchy masquerading as democracy.
  6. Awww, somebody who thinks the Democratic establishment will actually ever do anything to Wall Street. Who repealed the New Deal banking laws and created too big to fail in the 90s? Who refused to reinstate them after the banksters then drove the economy off the cliff? Who failed to prosecute a single bankster? The banks aren't giving Obama $600K for a thirty minute speech because they're mad at what he did. Hell, I wish the Democrats were running on a firm commitment to reinstate New Deal banking laws, break up the big banks and prosecute any executive who breaks the law. They aren't because they are just as bought and paid for by Wall Street as the other guys. They might talk a good game during election season as their part in the sick Kabuki Theater that masquerades as democracy in America, but once in office, they'll drop to their knees for Wall Street every bit as quickly as the Republicans do.
  7. +++++ them. Kick them out and force them to repay the government for every year they were at West Point.
  8. And you'd still sell your soul if Nevada could be even half what the Big Ten schools are.
  9. Here's to hoping the pedsters lose in a game with some close calls. Nothing beats watching the Paterno Cult implode with their ridiculous conspiracy theories of the Big Ten having to cheat to keep them from dominating the conference.
  10. You can take a couple off Ohio's hands. They overbuilt the +++++ out.of their system in the 60s and have a couple of 4 year universities (looking at you Akron) that are nothing more than a waste of resources that could be directed to other campuses.
  11. Perhaps. But if the 3 of the 5 P5 conferences start thinking the playoff has turned into the ESPNSEC Invitational, it does open the door to shaking things up, and the possibility of those conferences pushing for a G5 invite. The pipe dream of every G5 champ getting an auto bid will never happen, but there's a lot grey area between that and what we have now.
  12. 1-loss Bama 1-loss SEC Champ (LSU or UGA 1-loss Clemson 1-loss Notre Dame 1-loss Ohio State/Michigan 1-loss Oklahoma 1-loss Washington State Undefeated UCF. Committee will take Bama, LSU/UGA, Clemson and Notre Dame Is this the catalyst for the Fox affiliated P5s (B1G, B12 & PAC) to come together with the G5 and say enough is enough against the ESPN-SEC-ACC coalition?
  13. Great article on Eric. It, however, tries real hard to whitewash what a punk and a degenerate Bill Musselman was at Minnesota. That takes away a lot from the positive vibe it's going for.
  14. Damn, I read the title and thought the UNLV band might be trying to go all Ohio State with the animated halftime shows. I'd have actually tuned in to see that.
  15. Because most people in a position to donate $5M to a university probably have better priorities than pissing it away on what essentially would be a one time party.
  16. Yeah, but you haven't scratched the surface of the "IT'S NOT FAIR" crowd. By the time they have their way, all ticket sales and media money would get thrown into a pot to be split evenly. Next up would be a talent draft for high school kids. After all, why should all those 5 star kids end up horded by Saban. Let Troy and UNLV wet their beak. And speaking of the latter, how dare it be allowed that Ohio State sweeps into Gorman for all the best players. They should be forced to go to UNLV. And how dare they put the upcoming Alabama-LSU on Saturday night primetime. Who cares what the networks and their advertisers want. Relegate it to a Wednesday night. To be fair, San Jose State versus Nevada should have the ABC prime slot that week.
  17. Keep banging your tin cup on the sidewalk and eventually the P5 are going to get fed up and break away. Then you'll get your fair shot for "your" championship, and 90% of college football fans won't care. I'll say it again, Ohio State has played in two games this season that drew a higher television audience than the entire slate of MWC games. Overestimating one's hand usually doesn't end well. And I'm someone who thinks UCF should make the playoff this year and a G5 should get an auto bid to an 8 team playoff. But don't think that anyone outside of some G5 diehards on message boards are clamoring to see multi-loss sunbelt champs anywhere near a playoff.
  18. Given the current finances of UNLV's athletic department and UNLV's level of fundraising, I think the only way that they make the jump to D1 is if some whale donor writes the big check. That's what it took at ped state, and they actually have an ad that makes money.
  19. Tesla has an arrogant history of believing they're above all federal regulations going back decades. Their "user agreement" with customers blatantly blocks the gathering of required NHTSA data on safety, accidents and reliability.
  20. Would you care to reference the exact clause in or amendment to the constitution that states that? By the way, and last time I checked, I was forced to help buy an 800 billion dollar a year military that I would prefer not to. And FWIW, if you actually read my post, you'll discern that I'm not fan of Obama/Romney/Dole/HeritageFoundation Care. I view it as a cynical "reform" meant to protect and insulate the private health insurance industry from true competition from a single payer plan.
  21. This. Obamacare's genesis was literally within the walls of the Heritage Foundation. It was presented as the "free market path to universal coverage." It was part of Bob Dole's platform in 1996. Mitt Romney enacted it on the state level in Massachusetts. But as soon as the black centrist Dem and his Citibank cabinet tried to co-opt it and make it his own, the Republicans started acting like Leon Trotsky was behind it. That may be the most blatant political hypocrisy that I've witnessed in my 50 years on this planet.
  22. This. The two most watched games this year were Ohio State-Ped State and Ohio State-TCU which drew over 9 and 7 million viewers respectively. That's more viewers than the entire MWC combined pulled those two weeks. Yet Bob seems to not only think his school deserves an equal seat at the table but apparently the right to carve the God damned turkey.
  23. Keep living the pipe dream that your school can erase decades of history and investment and catapult to the upper ranks if only some CUSA teams could make the playoff. Keep siphoning money away from your academics and extorting your students for every dime you can squeeze out of them thinking that big time foosball glory is yours for the taking if only you spend a little bit more recklessly. Keep holding your tin cup out and demanding more from the big schools when you're hawking a product very few people give a crap about.
  24. The more I think about it, the more I'm of the opinion that a Trump supporter just couldn't be that unhinged as to have done this.
  25. Yeah, I forgot about that. Aside from not being funny and stealing everything he could from Letterman and Conan, Jay Leno was really an immense arsehole.
