  1. SDSU representing the MWC is huge. We can hate on each other next Tuesday. But for this week, let’s all be Aztecs!

  5. little ol' SDSU finaaaaaaaally broke the Sweet-16 ceiling. Good for you guys, really! I'm happy for you. Genuinely. Not seething with jealousy or anything. That sort of behavior would be beneath a patrician-class fan of a once powerhouse program that has been reduced to absolute rubble from it's own infuriating incompetence for decades. Especially a fan too young and handsome to have lived those great days first hand. But the FINAL FOUR is where the BIG BOYS go. That's where legendary teams are forged. Get your fuggin' asses to the FINAL FOUR SDSU!!!!!!! I'm REALLY not jealous or bitter about your success! Seriously. This is really off brand for me. I'm surprised with myself.

  6. This is what’s great about the mwcboard. We will shit on each other all day but if a fan of another team comes and talks shit but doesn’t back it up we all pile on them.

  7. I find self-important college students to be insufferable and annoying, and I know there are instances where they actively try to silence voices and are hostile to free speech principles. That's always been the case. But it's also increasingly hard to take a lot of the right wing intellectual class that groups like the Federalist Society hold up as speech warriors seriously when there's been such a concerted effort on their part to simultaneously initiate culture wars to "own the libs," and to dominate their intellectual opponents by using actual state laws and the the actual threat of state sanctioned violence to silence dissent. Sorry, but the Florida University system is where the real threat to speech on campus is, not a few hecklers yelling at a dismissive outrage monger who has an incentive to cast himself as a victim.

  8. Homelessness appears to be nothing more than a magnifier of the negatives of how our society operates. If we think about many reasons for homelessness, and then think about policies, it makes sense. Disinvestment in mental health, less beds in hospitals, no cells for non-violent crimes, less drug rehab slots, especially during COVID, COVID itself and the exacerbation of substance abuse and mental deterioration, lower-income folks can't afford larger size units as before, and with increase of cost or lack of funds, cannot support couch riding so nowhere to go. Loss of jobs leading to home loss and when you end up on the street, it is crabs in a bucket at times. To address homelessness for real, and not just try and throw human lives out of sight, out of mind, those consequences of our negative aspects of society need to be addressed. But I believe too much money is made keeping it going in all honesty. Cops and other first responders get overtime, lobbyists get money to companies to semi-address some of it, NGO/NPOs get grants and donations to slap a bandaid on the problem, government agencies get money to deal with the externalities of homelessness, and political parties get money and power from using them like pawns in a game of morbid strategy. I commend you for looking out for those folks. A lot of good people in some of those encampments.

  12. I'm opposed to this. Just like the so-called War on Terror, where we kill one cartel another will crop up. Prohibition doesn't work when there is a huge demand for the prohibited product. The Mexican Cartels of the 21st Century are the like the Mobsters of Alcohol Prohibition. The best thing to do is to end the black market and put the cartels out of business. The only way to do that is to end the drug war.

  17. So after the Wyoming game I gave Isaiah crap for being stuck at 12 assists and never getting to 13 his entire career. He laughed because he was very aware that he had never got to 13. I don’t know how obvious it was to those watching the game that all Isaiah cared about tonight was getting to 13. He was turning down shots and overpassing which created a few extra turnovers. But he did get to 13. I had a very nice short conversation with him post game about things that happened over the four years. Way back in his freshman year he beat Nevada at the buzzer and I missed it because I had surgery. I told him he owed me one. Tonight I told him that he paid me back 100 times over. What a player!

  21. It’s not hurting us. Let’s continue to offload our out of date equipment to Ukraine. Let them continue to degrade the Russian military and we can watch what does and doesn’t work against a modern foe. And if Russia takes Ukraine, they won’t stop there. I’d rather we give Ukraine old equipment than fight Russia (and likely China) directly when they attack a NATO country.

  25. To be fair to @Cougar King, we do owe that city a debt of gratitude. Putting NASA in Houston sped up our race to the moon by a good decade. Nothing will motivate a man to leave earth more than forcing him to live in that dump.

  26. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts. They have been helpful, and have honestly made an impact. Some of these things are hard to share with close family and friends because they're so up in the air and you don't want to unnecessarily burden others with things over the prospect of uncertain outcomes. Quick update. We had our weekly appointment today. Things continue to be "stable," according to the specialist we see weekly. So that is very, very encouraging. We ended up staying a day in the hospital about a week ago because the wife had pain in the lower right abdominal area. There was some concern about appendicitis, or maybe some early labor. But it appears to have been muscular-skeletal. Basically the kind of stuff that naturally happens as a fetus grows in your and stretches your shit out. But as my wife is high risk, we still had to go in and make sure all is OK. We are in the middle of 23rd week. So it's a bit of a tricky stretch here - on the verge of viability, but still in a place where if things start to happen the outcomes still are not promising. But with each passing week upcoming, things become increasingly promising. We basically have 30 weeks circled as the place we want to get. After that, even though things are still complicated and all, generally the outcomes are overwhelmingly positive. So, the next few weeks or so are make or break. Thanks again for all your thoughts.

  29. Reading about a million posts about league realignment and how horrible "other" teams and leagues and fans are has really depressed me. The schadenfreude and jealousy and cynicism are really hard to digest. College football is destroying itself because of greed and people's willingness to head down the road to winner-take-all sports and a continually less level playing field. Reading posts from Houston fans who (now they're headed to the Big 12) salivate to hopes the Pac-12 (10) disintegrates, leagues poaching schools from 3 time zones away, fans drooling over the elimination of a someone else's team's chance of survival in the new system destroyed-this is what we want? I am an Aztec fan who showed "Out of the Blue" to my high school film class years back, who was angry when Wyoming didn't get a bowl bid after going undefeated or almost undefeated years back because of their small population, who applauded Fresno State's NCAA baseball championship, who pulls for UNLV to improve their football team, and for the MAC conference and the Sunbelt conference. I'd love to see parity or at least a fairly level plaing field for all universities who want to compete. I'd like to see regional time zone leagues that are competitive. Southern California teams in a league on the East Coast? SDSU is the closet major college team to the Pacific Ocean. It's an excellent university with excellent teams. Would it fit in the Pac-12? I think so. Some people in the Pac-12 would rather die than see us in there. I'd like to see Fresno and some other schools join us in a geographically sensible league. I'd like Boise in the league too, but I'd rather see them in an equally supported league with some of their closer neighbors (Colorado, Oklahoma, etc.). How about all the 140 or so teams divided up regionally with an attempt at relatively equal tv money? Wouldn't that be better than only a handful of teams who ever have a chance at being national champs every year? Isn't that better than 2 leagues having all the money and then one of them having all the money and then just one team from the one surviving league becoming the '27 Yankees? That's where we're headed. Call me a collectivist pizza-gate groomer who hates freedom and America or whatever, but thanks for letting me vent. See you at the tournament in Vegas next week!

  33. We actually should. We should open the floodgates and loosen immigration restrictions. We should do this for a few reasons. 1) we have an aging population that will become more of a drain on the entitlement programs. With an increased workforce those programs would be secured in the long term 2) it would be economically beneficial in the long term 3) we will be able to maintain our superpower status.

  34. Governments are going to have to start providing free childcare to citizens if they want more kids. I'm in a very blessed situation where I work full-time but we can afford to have my wife work a part-time variable schedule and we have both her and my families near us to help with watching my 9 and 4 year old boys after school or no school days. But this is not the case for a lot of families and I feel for them who don't have the same family support and somehow have to make things work with both parents working full-time to afford life's needs.

  35. It is not just WYO that is/will be affected. USU and many other MWC schools will never be able to compete NIL wise with the bigger schools/conferences. I am all for players getting NIL deals as well as being able to transfer at will but the fact is it really makes college sports less enjoyable. I love watching young freshman come in and play/improve by the time they are upper classmen. You create a closeness with them that is awesome. Now with all the turnover each year it makes it hard to be invested as I once was.
