Then I root for the winner.
J/K I think who I root for is obvious.

Lol, yeah I guess it's inconceivable that a kid who grew up watching Tark's Rebels and John Robinson's football teams, would move to San Diego in '99 and want to cheer for those SDSU teams, who had no local following, and even fewer W's. Was I supposed to start rooting for SDSU when they got a little better? When I went there? No way. That'd make me a bandwagoner, like 3/4 of your fanbase. Call me what you want, but I've always been consistent in the teams I cheer for.

I grew up in Reno and was always a Nevada fan growing up. I moved to San Diego when I was about 21 and got my Bachelors at SDSU and attended a few games there. Nevada will always be my #1 with SDSU my #2.
That's pretty close to my story. I guess that don't fly with SDSU fans though [insert Kanye shrug].

Never really felt much of a connection to SJSU. Liked it fine, though. I wasn't following college athletics back then, so I never followed the team. I do like to see them do well, however.

I don't need some ESPN blogger to tell me what real college fanhood looks like. When you come from a town where the college team IS the pro team, then come talk to me. That local team becomes your team. Flat out. Moving to a new town and eventually going to some other school does not automatically bump that school to the top of my list. You have to feel it for your team. I never cared about SDSU sports. But I've always felt a punch-a-hole-in the wall passion for UNLV athletics. My Aztec buddies got 3 good years to razz me and SDSU got my tuition dollars. That should suffice for that school.

I still cheer for the MWC teams whenever they dont play the dogs!
My favorites are pretty much in no particular order:
Wyoming
Hawaii
Nevada
BSU (until they left)
SJSU
and
USU is starting to grow on me as well.

UNLV hands down is #1.................UNR is a distant 2nd....................Idaho a distant 3rd.

I went to HS in reno, but latched on to UNLV during thier 1st final four run, then moved to LV after HS & was a UNLV fan..........went to & graduated from Idaho, but returned to LV right after graduation..............was always a UNLV fan first....................Idaho is a distant second..............UNR has gone up in my book since they moved to D-1 and more so now that they are in the same MWC as UNLV.

No wonder you're so dumb, you went to the diploma mill.

My little disagreement with k5 got me thinking...who on the board attended one MWC school, but roots primarily for another? I attended SDSU but am a UNLV fan first and foremost. I think there was a similar thread some time ago and I found out I wasn't the only one.
Here is a variant on that thread. Who cheers for a MWC team that didn't go to that school. I cheer for Fresno even though I went to Pomona College.
This is interesting because it shows some indication of the strength of the brand.

Hoisted by his own petard!!
You should check the rankings of BSU vs UNLV. UNLV isn't tops in anything.....except when compared t BSU.

I think you fall under “I’m a fan of the school I grew up down the street from.”
I also think it's really a non-issue and K5 has his thong in a twist over something silly, but whatever.

I didn't see anyone posting that UNLV was tops in any rankings of schools. So I guess you are making shiit up to stir the pot. Nice try.

Sorry, Slappy, but I did check: U.S. News & World Report has twice listed Boise State as one of the top up-and-coming schools in the nation for regional universities. Plus Boise State engineering programs are ranked 16th among comprehensive public universities and share the No. 42 ranking among all undergraduate engineering programs.

Why do I have to keep feeding you facts just because you and the Vandals want to continually bash Boise State...again?

I was making the point that UNLV is ranked ahead of BSU while being realistic about UNLV (and most other MWC schools for that matter) not being a Harvard/Stanford/Yale level school. Sheesh.

A top "up and coming" school doesn't necessarily translate to a top school. The paragaph you left out (which is sandwiched between the two you DID include) is:
The article commented, “for prospective applicants, we believe the schools on this list offer the reassurance that whatever their historical reputation (or lack of it), they’re firmly focused on improving the job they are doing today – at least in the judgment of their peers.”
They're improving.....and that's great, but they are still a "regional university", which means they (according to the article you reference) "offer a full range of undergrad programs and some master's programs but few doctoral programs". If you're suggesting that BSU is ranked ahead of UNLV, you're wrong.

Maybe that's why I'm so passionate about the "original" mwc and members and not to excited for the newer teams. Plus, we have many friends who went to Utah or byu. I guess that does explain why i really loved the mwc. Especially the original conference.

That's ashame...an SJS grad, who jumped on the Donk wagon.....did you like their colors better?
I miss the cutoff by a year. Graduated from San Jose State but have been a diehard BSU fan since around '99.
