Historic win for the U.S.A.
We beat Italy in a building they never lose in and Mexico in one of the most intimidating venues of any kind. Both of those wins came this year.
I'm impressed. Go U.S.A.

I remember Mexico fans chanting "Osama!" during our US national anthem one year at Azteca. Pissed me the F*ck off when I heard that.

Yeah well we won and that's all that counts. I'm a big Hernandez fan when he's playing for Manchester United but when he's playing for Mexico at Azteca, I'm hoping he chokes on the smog. Howard shut him out with big time saves. There's no better place on earth to beat Mexico than at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. Go U.S.A !The US coach is Jurguen Klinsmann. He is definitely the type of coach the USA needs. As far as the Osama chant during the national anthem, The Mexican fans booed through the entirety of the anthem, shined laser pointers in Tim Howard's (Goalkeeper) eyes and trashed the USA fans that were at the game. Classless.

Pretty typical US fan behavior.

I personally find soccer boring and never watch it. But I must admit that I smiled with American pride when I heard that the USA team finally beat Mexico. Congratulations guys!
We beat Mexico all the time. We just don't beat them in DF.

Wow, thank you for the heads up!! Congrats USA! Whom is the HC may I ask now?

You obviously don't follow international football much. Fans in Euro countries are much worse. Osama, the N word and other equally harsh remarks are chanted toward the U.S. team when playing in matches in Europe. This is how every opponent is treated, weather in Euro or North/South America. Soccer fans are extremely fanatical. Hooligans on the verge of sociopath-ism for 90mins.
If U.S. football (gridiron football) was an int'l sport, how do you think our fan base would act toward the opponents and their fans? Keep in mind that you would have Raider, Cowboy and Buccaneer and those of a few other NFL teams with fans labeled classless together supporting the national team.

A few years ago the US team was treated pretty badly when they played Mexico IN LA. The US fans threw bottles and other things at them during the game and on their entrance and exit. It seems fans in both countries prefer Mexico over the US team.
Dude you've got to remember who goes to the games in Los Angeles.
One of the rules I live by: never underestimate a man in a dandy looking sweater.

How so? Example.
UNR fans throwing batteries and urine filled bottles at UNLV players and coaches.
That's all documented if you deny it.
Also, I'm sure UNLV fans are just as bad, so I'm not singling your fans out.

You guys know that none of the players from Mexico's gold winning team played. So they beat their JV squad.
Correct. I can't understand why Hernandez wasn't part of the Olympic team, but part of last night's team. I equate it to having Andrew Luck or RG3 taking the field with all red shirt freshmen.

The Olympic squad is only for guys at the age of 23 and under. So Mexico's jv squad IS the olympic team.

Well they sent 23 and under and 2-3 over 23. But Mexico's best talent right now is really young. Either way it's a great win for USA. Mexico just won the Youth World Cup a month ago. So they are going to be really good for awhile.

Do you really think those were US fans in LA. Their is a reason the US team prefers to play in Columbus or RFK when they have a home game in US.
What I would love to see is a merging of the professional leagues between Mexico and US into a single entity. That would be serious fun. Nothing like some good ole fashion hate to generate fan interest.

Sadly one of the starting defenders was born in Sacramento. We need to keep our good young players home and playing for our side.

It wasn't the US's "A" team either.

Soccer is growing leaps and bound in this country. Great Idea for the sport to really blossom here in the US.

Very true, Ute. Mexico had eight original starters playing last night while the USA had six.It wasn't the US's "A" team either.

I know it wasn't. That was exactly my point. Neither team last night had their best teams out there. The team the USA had to try to qualify for the olympics wasn't the USA's best team either.
