  1. Pack fans? I see 1 guy. I'm waiting on an actual news source that says he hired an agent. We all know he's entering his name.
  2. Source - Ben Parker Cal Rivals reporter?
  3. I hate the fact SDSU is in this predicament. I did mention 2-3 years ago this would be the case once the Chargers leave - of course I was ridiculed and told I didn't know anything. Well, the measures for Qualcomm and SDSU stadium/offsite housing didn't pass. I knew that area would be too valuable and that developers would get their way. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of forward thinking 10+ years ago. Now, I think Soccer City is SDSU's best bet. There's still some leverage to get the soccer stadium AND accommodate the SDSU football team. Let's see if the decision makers are forward thinking enough.
  4. Sounds like a solid hire. Who else is on the list?
  5. There's no state income tax in NV. What is he selling? Property tax is higher in CA than NV based on the higher property value. What is he selling again? Tell me more..
  6. Muss is projected to make around $1M this year at Nevada and Knuth has said he wants to keep him happy and is willing to restructure the contract to allow a higher base salary as soon as after this season. That could mean around $1.5M with base, incentives, and percentage of attendance as soon as next year. Sure, there'll be flashier jobs that can offer more money but I've never got the impression that's what drives Coach Muss.
  7. lol the misery of Vegas fans is permeated in this thread - I love it!
  8. Woah! Did Convert actually post a semi-funny joke? The end of days are upon us my friends...
  9. I must've missed it. When did Hawaii take one step forward? Joking aside, I think it's a good hire. USU's LB core was top notch these past couple of years and that defense as a whole was very solid. If he can bring the same mentality/scheme to Hawaii then I think you guys will be alright but you guys won't go anywhere until you get rid of Norm Chow.
  10. The positive - SDSU and BSU was a driving force in CBS reworking the TV contract. The negative - Their departures made it necessary to add USU and SJSU. It's not that I don't like USU and SJSU but I preferred the 10-team league we had.
  11. I'd love to see a not-for-profit public university's budget that projects a profit. Unless there's a State that I don't know of who views public universities as a business, the governing body would never pass it because it's not a balanced budget. Of course there are revenue generating departments (athletic departments, book stores, grant writing, donations, etc.) where the money goes back into the university but the overall objective of a public university isn't to make a profit. Do "profits" happen at public universities? All the time and I didn't mean to sound like they don't. What I meant is that it's not called a "profit" it's called fund balance or a surplus and a profit would never be projected in a balanced budget at a public university.
  12. Dude, I just sent you the link to your FY11-12 Actuals...those numbers didn't just come out of my ass, those are the numbers from UNLV's audited financial statements that I took right off the UNLV website and they don't match up with OPE. So, either OPE is wrong (you're going to tell me that your revenues and expenses all just coincidentally equal out?) or UNLV and Grant Thornton has some serious explaining to do. And WTF does the University of Nevada or your drawing have to do with your baseless argument that UNLV's athletic program is millions more profitable than SDSU's? You're wrong just admit it. And BTW, this comes from the OPE site you just linked: " Please note that valid comparisons of athletics data are possible only with study and analysis of the conditions affecting each institution. "http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/index.aspx I work on financial reports to the federal government all the time and there are always caveats. For one, their fiscal year is different from mine so often times I have to project what my revenues and expenses are for the year or they'll cherry pick certain data that helps them with their own data analysis but the reports aren't necessarily representative of your organization.
  13. Normally I don't side with K5...but you're an idiot. UNLV's numbers are budget not actual....hence the reason why your revenues equal expenses AKA a balanced budget. Although leave it up to UNLV to screw that up too. The numbers don't match their budget and where that $5.4M extra revenue in basketball comes from I have no idea - could be a donation, transfer, or a mistake but it's definitely not profit (note: Public Universities don't make "profit"). This is UNLV athletic's budget-to-actual for FY11-12, which starts on pg. 326. Men's Basketball is clearly the bread winner of the family as it made $2M; however, that "profit" is eaten up by every other sport in your athletic department, most notably Football -$2.6M and Women's Basketball -$1.3M. Now I can't find SDSU's "official" numbers so I can't tell you who's doing better but looking at the OPE site you linked, it looks like they're using actuals and from what I see they have a surplus in the 2 biggest sports. I also see that Men's Basketball is pulling in more revenue (naming rights could be included in that figure) and has double the expense costs of UNLV (perhaps they're including loan/bond payments on Viejas Arena whereas UNLV isn't for the T&M?) but is still making a "profit" of $1M. Bottom line is 1) you can't use that site to compare the two programs because they're not reporting the same way and 2) until UNLV finds a solution for it's Black Hole (football program) all that "profit" you make in MBB won't mean a damn thing.
  14. $5M profit? Either UNLV is a corporation or they aren't very good at balancing their budget. With all that money you would think you'd see an on-campus stadium by now or at least a competitive football team.
