  1. the rumor that is being mentioned I’m guessing is related to a response from a supposed source close to the new Hawai'i AD Angelos. Where Angelos has done a lot of work since being hired to improve the department as well as developed a good relationship with MW Commish Navarez. The source has shown some inside AD knowledge since they showed up in the last year. It has to deal with how the Spectrum tv contract will be adjusted where the MW has endorsed the change but the BW has not, which news will come out within the next year. Supposedly the WSU/OSU decision (MW merger, ACC backups, etc) is the first step for anything. It doesn't seem like a definite thing or at least something that near term, but something more along what steps would need to occur type of thing in order for talks to advance/continue.
  2. Wonder if that means the conference will have 2 triple options teams to worry about,AFA and SJSU, or does Coach Ken bring a different style of Offense now that he’s away from an academy. Solid hire for SJSU.
  3. That’s an interesting list of finalists -Alonzo Carter, SJSU Assistant Coach (RB) -Derrick Odom, SJSU Defensive Coordinator -Jay Hill, BYU Defensive Coordinator -Jason Eck, Idaho Head Coach If those are the finalists, I’d probably either want Eck or Hill for their HC experience or Odom for the program continuity.
  4. I feel like Marion would be great for whoever ends up hiring him. He probably has a decent number of connections being on staffs and working with coaches for Howard, Oklahoma Baptist, William & Mary, Hawai'i, Pitt, Texas, and UNLV. Has his own unique high-powered Offense and seems like a good coach to play for. GJ Kinne who was hired last year to coach Texas State was on the same staff as Marion at Hawai'i in his first year beyond a non-position/coordinator coach, and already leapfrogged in front of Marion in half the time of coaching.
  5. That's a surprising hire to me. Also sorry for SJSU who will be both in rebuild mode and have a late new hire in a HC. That domino effect went pretty far down. Alabama hires Washington Coach Deboer -> Washington hires Arizona Coach Fisch ->Arizona hires SJSU Coach Brennan -> SJSU hires ??
  6. With the top candidates slowly being crossed off the list by 'Bama with each deciding to stay at their current schools, DeBoer was next in line. Will be interesting how he does and if he's their coach past 2-3 years. Going to take a bit for that program to settle for anything less than yearly CFP bids and at least contesting for the SEC Championship after getting used to Saban for so long. 2 years at Fresno 2 years at Washington 2 years at Alabama?
  7. With Lanning staying at Oregon, Norvell deciding to stay at Florida St, and Sarkisian staying at Texas. Feels like its most likely going to be DeBoer as next coach of 'Bama. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39294235/fsu-novell-texas-sarkisian-staying-new-deals-works-both
  8. Ah yeah, if there is any chance that the MW is not fully absorbed into whatever conference it ends up, whoever is left in the MW will probably have a decent selection of teams that could be attracted to join with the possible levels of fee revenue from the bylaw exit fees/PAC-2 scheduling agreement in the MW coffers.
  9. that's insanely high, if that is correct and there is at least 1 school not invited. ([$10-11m per school] * [# of MW schools invited]) + ([$16.6m/$33.2m, based on prior year MW revenue] * [# of MW schools invited]) Even if 1 school was invited to join the next season, that's $11m in penalties by the PAC12 + $33.2m in exit fees (total of $44.2m) by the MW school to exit the conference. Feel's like its either Indy for WSU/OSU, the ACC falls apart just in time for WSU/OSU, or the PAC12 becomes the "PACMW14"/PAC14 with that agreement in place.
  10. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/klatt-why-all-signs-point-to-kalen-deboer-replacing-nick-saban-at-alabama Would be interesting how he does if DeBoer does go to 'Bama. I feel like any coach who takes the job will have to sustain double-digit wins during their tenure with regular SEC Championships and CFP bids. If not they are on the hot seat the moment a 8-9 win season and no SEC crown comes up.
  11. Will be interesting to see how 'Bama adjusts to whoever ends up the HC replacement to Saban. Will they keep to the same level of success or will there be a noticeable drop.
  12. Per the school's beat writer Steven Tsai giving the latest updates. Leading candidates to take over the vacant spots. There are also planned to be some shuffling between coaching roles with some of the existing staff. https://www.staradvertiser.com/2024/01/08/sports/warriors-eyeing-thurman-to-fill-spot/ Dan Morrison (semi-retired) - Longtime JJ assistant at both Hawai'i and SMU. Knows the RnS Offense well and mentored Schager and the Offense as a volunteer at numerous points last season. Rumored to take over at least as a CO-OC as well as the QB Coach position. Jeff Reinbold (Hamilton Tigercats - Special Teams Coordinator) - Coached at a variety of places from College to Pro (CFL). Has been a longtime CFL assistant at numerous spots. Has a soft spot for the islands and the program while coaching alongside JJ. Rumored to take over the Special Teams Coordinator role as well as a Defensive Line coach role. Dennis Thurman (Colorado - Director of Quality Control-Defense) - Coach that has extensive assistant and coordinator experience at both the college and Pro (NFL) ranks. Led the #1 Ranked FCS Defense as the DC at Jackson State the year before the move to Colorado with Coach Prime. Has history being coached by Morrison back when he was a player in HS which is the likely connection to get him to the school. Rumored to take over the Defensive Coordinator and Cornerbacks position coach roles. There was the other rumor of Sal Sunseri coming over with Thurman from Colorado as CO-DC. But that may not end up happening as it wasn't mentioned by Tsai.
  13. Rumors going around Timmy is getting either Sunseri or Thurman from Colorado onto the staff as the DC/DT coach. Other rumor is Jeff Reinbold as Special Teams Coordinator/DB Coach from the CFL’s Hamilton Tigercats (he’s said in the past if he had a coach position he’d come) and Morrison a former JJ coach as Co-OC/QB Coach. Amongst some coach title reshuffling from the existing staff. if all those come true. Definite upgrade from this past seasons staff
  14. The new AD Angelos showed a lot of support for him this past season, but Timmy's contract was set up by the prior AD Matlin who had a way he liked to do his Football HC contracts for coaches that are unproven (It was also the way Rolo's contract was initially set up). - 4-Year Base Contract. 1-Year Auto-Extension (to make a 5-Year Contract) if Bowl-eligible in either Year 1 or Year 2 of the contract. Because Timmy failed to reach a bowl in his first (2022-23) or second (2023-24) season, the current contract is now just a 4-Year contract that expires the season after next year (following the 2025-26 season). In order for Timmy to continue coaching and not become a lame duck year coach, Angelos will need to extend Timmy after next season if he wants to have him still be HC. I think as long as the team shows progress (become bowl eligible even as a 6-7 team) from the 5-win year this past season, Timmy gets a 2-3 year extension. But if it regresses back to a 3-win type of team, I think there is at least a small chance Angelos decides to let Timmy go.
