  1. Great move for Dykes. I thought he would wait it out at LaTech until the Texas Tech job opened up, but a move to Cal is pretty darn attractive. More attractive than being in Lubbock for sure.
  2. If it weren't for the dog's breakfast known as the MWC television deal, I could see that happening. I think there are many, many people who would like to team up with most fo the MWC schools, but cannot justify it with the current TV package. Maybe when 2016 or 2019 rolls around there will be a chance to change the conversation . . . I hope so.
  3. Excellent point. My reply was to point out that the proposed conference would compete well with the Big East and ACC, may not win many b/c the Big East and ACC are dominant. I guess I should have pointed out that the proposed conference would easily compete in football and be a very "respectfully competitive" bball conference that could compete with the big boys. My bad.
  4. I still wish something could've been worked out to make a new SW/W regional conference of what remains of the MWC, WAC, CUSA. BSU, BYU, WYO, CSU, AFA, SDSU, Fresno St, UNM, SMU, Houston would've been a very strong base - maybe strong enough to add some value to the likes of a fledgling NBC Sports network. If the network wanted to make it a 12 or 14 team conference, those schools would be easy to find (Hawaii, UNLV, UNR, USU, UTEP, Tulsa, NMSU, Idaho, etc could fill the spots). Now that hypothetical conference would not get paid the same money the other big conferences are getting, but it may have provided a way better pay out than the current MWC and CUSA TV deals with more meaningful regional rivalries and a good amount of inventory for NBC Sports. The above conference would most likely provide some very good football and mens basketball competition for the rest of the nation and challenge the Big East and ACC easily. my 2 cents.
  5. RIP Coastie. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family Troy.

    SMU

SMU was a tag-along travel partner for UH the whole time. If TCU didn't choose to leave after Pitt/Cuse announced their move to the ACC, BE expansion plans would not have included SMU in my opinion. I think the BE expansion will happen regardless; however, I'd love (LOVE) to see a new conference created with select MWC, CUSA schools, BYU and maybe a WAC team or two. I know I've written it before so I won't get into it again. The BIG Mountain Conference. Football would be more competitive than what's left of the BigEast, CUSa and MWC. Basketball would be very competitive instantly. New TV deal, maybe own network and a league that can serve large land grant, flagship or large private institutions with sizable alumni bases in many of the largest cities in the central and mountain time zones.
