  1. My God you SDSU fans are delusional! Mike
  2. AF will be in either Fort Worth or San Diego to play their bowl game. Mike
  3. AF vs WYO will be a critical game for both programs and have a significant impact on the outcome of program that holds the number one spot at the end of the 2012 season. The Pokes will have the home field advantage and AF coming off of their biggest rivalry game against Navy will also be a plus for WY. That being said I'll put on my blue colored glasses and predict an AF victory based on two factors. The Falcons will absolutely want to redeem themselves for their lackluster play against WY last year. Coach Calhoun will surely remind them of that debacle and also remind them of the lashing they took at ND after playing Navy last year. The second factor could very well be the debut of Falcon QB Kale Pearson. Pearson is one of those rare talents AF snags now and then and his fresh legs (true 4.4 speed) and an arm that is as good or better than Tim Jefferson's will spark the Birds to a victory. He may not start the game, but I think Connor Dietz will have left everything he has on the field at Falcon Stadium and will need the relief Pearson can more than capably provide. AF could very well be 5-1 after this game and while the remainder of their schedule presents some significant challenges none of those opponents present insurmountable odds for victories. Very unfortunate that AF doesn't get a shot at BSU before they leave, but I will look forward to watching the Falcons remind SDSU why they were the BE's backup plan for expansion in the west. BEAT SDSU! BEAT BSU! Mike
  4. I've known a handful of football players who could make the claim you friend did in terms of dealing with the academic load with ease. The most recent was AJ Wallerstein, but the ease he had in taking on the rigors of taking on a dual major of physics and mathematical sciences is certainly not the norm within the program. He has been assigned to Wright Patterson AFB to train as a physicist. This will give you an idea of what a cadet faces academically: http://www.usafa.af.mil/deanoffaculty/staffagencies/registrar/curriculum.asp http://www.usafa.edu/df/dfr/curriculum/handbook.cfm http://www.usafa.org/Documents/Connect/ParentHandbook2011.pdf There isn't a single institution currently or previously in the MWC that even remotely comes close to having the same academic standards for admission that the Academy has. Bottom line is your friend's experience is unique for a student athlete at any Service Academy. While many cadet's who are requited to play ball drop out of the program, many stay focused on earning their degree and being commissioned. Bottom line is that you take an Ivy League education and couple it with a military commitment and even if you're academically smart the demands from being a cadet are always there. Mike
  5. I have been associated with the AFA and the football program since the first class to graduate and I'll simply say your stab on on providing a credible response to academic rigors for cadets let alone cadet athletes is laughable. I know a former unnamed grad who said it wasn't tough means zip in my book. Mike Simler
  6. The tradition and significance of the Third Verse of the Air Force Song is well known to AFA Falcon fans; here it is: "Here’s a toast to the host of those who love the vastness of the sky, To a friend we send the message of his brother men who fly, We drink to those who gave their all of old, Then down we roar to score the rainbow’s pot of gold. A toast to the host of men we boast, The US Air Force." To a great Falcon Fan, a gentleman and a veteran who served I raise my glass in a toast to the host! Mike
  7. You continue to dimiss the challenges that any Service Academy HC faces in finding the success you state Petersen has had makes him a Top 10 coach. The easy response to your continued head in the sand approach is to say with the greatest of confidence that Petersen would fair no better than Calhoun or Johnson as a SA HC. Mike
  8. Bottom line is BSU won but I submit this info for your review and consideration: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=312950068 Not bad for top 40 Coach Calhoun in his first time squaring off against Top 10 Coach Petersen. This game is even closer if there is no botched fake punt (Calhoun takes the blame, but the film doesn't cover up a bad read). Petersen has proven to be a perfect fit for Boise as Calhoun is for AF. I think it is unfortunate that Petersen didn't have a chance to show his stuff in the MWC when BYU, TCU and UT were all still members of the conference. Success in that conference mix coupled with the bowl victories against the "big boys" would have put him solidly in that Top 10 status. Mike
  9. Where would you rank Coach Petetson in that top 40? Mike
  10. I don't have to be humble about his accomplishments. Mike
  11. The success Calhoun has had at AF given what he faces in terms of the academic, military and honor code demands makes him one of top coaches in college football period end of story. That in no way takes anything away from what your beloved coach has acomplished. I believe he has the character to be a very successful HC at a Service Academy, but I doubt he has the desire to take on such a challenge. Mike
  12. You are the first punctuation tough guy I come across on any board/forum so I'll give you credit for originality, but beyond that you're post is meaningless. If you'd like to refute what I said in the original post knock yourself out. Unfortunate that your team avoided a rematch with the AF at Falcon Stadium. Maybe you could have come to my tailgate and schooled me in your command of the English language by expressing in writing the depths of your depression over the Bronco loss. Your best buddy is gonna take a rest now so don't be sad while I am gone! Mike
  13. You are absolutely clueless on what the academic standards are at the AFA and cannot comprehend the demands that are placed on their players when coupled with the demands of their military obligations. Your ignorance is no execuse for this dumb +++ post. Mike
  14. In the option era at AF time of possession by the AF O has proven to be absolutely critical to the success of the AF D; there is no disputing that fact. With the quick strike TDs KOthrough the air TJ brought to the Falcon O that factor decreased enough to deminish that advantage for the D enough to hurt their performance level and the 2011 season is the perfect example of how the AF D playing a high number of reps (Navy game should never had been that close) has a negative impact on earning Ws. More important than grinding out scores on clock chewing drives is holding on to the Fing football and the Falcons gave up the ball way too much in 2011 putting the the D back on the field too soon. Service Academy option football is about keeping the other guy's offense off the field and giving their D the opportunity to take advantage of their quickness. That quickness plays directly into the aggressive style of play that pays dividends in disruption and forcing the opposition to cough up the ball. The longer their D is on the field getting pounded by much bigger bodies the less productive they are because that quick/aggresive style of play is no longer being produced. The AF D will improve enough in 2012 to give the Falcons a legitimate shot to win every game on their schedule. Will the Falcons go undefeated? Well we know that is unlikely having to go on the road to MI, WY, SDSU and Army, but with the exception of MI the Falcons have an excellent shot at hard fought victories in the other games. A 9-3 or 10-2 season is not a pie in the sky viewed through blue colored glasses prediction for AF in 2012. Mike
  15. You might want to add to your list the following: 4. Mike DeWitt has the potential to be the most punishing big FB Air Force has had; he will be backed up with depth of talent that is off the chart 5. Wes Cobb, Jon Lee and Anthony LaCoste provide the most talented depth of talent at TB AF has ever had; all three are good enough to start 6. Write it down; if the abilities of Chad Hall impressed you Ty MacArthur will impress as much or more; yep he is that good 7. If #2 QB Kale Pearson was 6' or better he would be playing and eventually starting for OK, TX, TCU etc. Legitimate 4.4 speed and a great arm 8. Mikel Hunter has shown he has the speed and hands to play WR/Z in any "big boy" conference programs 9. TEs are stacked with talent 10. AF will once again have an outstanding O line 11. AF D, especially the line will be much improved and starting OLBs, Means and Cooks, will be two of the best in the MWC 12. Special teams play should be outstanding AF is going to be a very dangerous team in 2012 and don't be surprised if they pull off a huge upset over MI! Mike
