Best Roadie game you've ever personally attended

Recommended Posts

What's the best road game crowd, atmosphere you've attended in the MWC?

Not talking bowl games...(sorry Aztecs)

For myself, I would have to say: @ Air Force in Colorado Springs.

Great site/location. We had tickets somehow right in the middle of the alumni section (still don't know how that happened) and they treated us great.

Of course, that was in middle of the Crowton years and they just pounded the Cougs which is probably proportional to the kind treatment we received, but I digress...

The roadie to Colorado Springs was fun.

Colorado Springs for me as well, if you're talking about a road game with a conf foe. Sept 24, 1988 in the Springs. Wow, what a game.

Wyoming was up by something like 2 touchdowns going into the 4th quarter. The Falcons came out in the 4th and scored 3 touchdowns to take the lead. In the final 3 minutes the Pokes scord twice to win the game 48-45. For almost three quarters the Poke fans were really giving it to the cadets and it turned on us and was bad for most of the 4th. Many Poke fans left before the end of the game. I couldn't cause I was on a charter that came down from Cheyenne. Danm if the Pokes didn't pull it out in the final minute.

Fiesta bowl was a different experience all together, but as far as traditional road game I attended was 1994 Utah vs CSU....both ranked, big back and forth battle. My buds and I were on the 40 in the CSU section....lots of fun sparring, but everyone was very cordial and had fun. W for the Utes :D

Nothing to really say here.....except GO MWC!!

That game still holds the CSU record for single game attendance. Just under 40,000 fans I believe. I was at that game and the atmosphere that day was electric. To bad we lost.

CSU was #10 and Utah was #7. Amazing.

When we played @ Utah last year, some random Utah girls were nice enough to bring me hot chocolate since it was cold.

And one thing you guys all get to enjoy when you play @ BYU is that they always say a prayer before the game. As much as most of you say we are a crap team, which I really shouldn't try to argue with, when we played @ BYU, they would at one point in the prayer say, "two good teams, Utah State and BYU". So you UNLV fans can similarly look forward to being referred to as a "good team" during the opening prayer when you play in Provo.

Been there, done that! My first week in the mission field (1980's) the coogies played at AirForce and my first area happened to be in the Springs. The entire district went to see a former mission AP play QB for the coogies. It was freakin cold and snowed for part of the game. We had fun and the coogies won (like I cared) :P . Great atmosphere and the cadets were very cool.

I went to AF-cooger basketball at the Academy that winter also. Got to sit with Paul James during post-game and listen in on a head-set.

Only been to 2 MWC road games..................SDSU & Wyoming.

It was a cold, cold day in Laramie, so I can't say much asI I was just freezing and even left the game early, when survival becomes a factor at a game, it tends to reduce the "fun factor"................I think the experience would have been better had the game been in September or even October and would go again if the temps were decent to give it another shot.

At SDSU, the stadium really doesn't hlep the Aztecs situation...........20,000 (maybe) in a 60,000+ seat stadium isn't much in the way of atmosphere, and the lower bowl is way too far from the field and the sight lines are bad...............of all the MWC teams, SDSU needs a football only stadium on the 40,000 seat range...........the best seats at "the Q" are in the upper levels for football.

I guess it is not fair for me to count Sam Boyd Stadium.

Favorite true road game (as opposed to Bowl games) is probably SDSU in 2004 but, partly because between Alex Smith's homecoming, the MUSS busing in and the local Utah alumni it felt like a 50/50 crowd and the feeling of momentum surrounding that year's team was special.

Trips to Provo are ok when you win but, really BYU/Utah games are intense but, not always "fun."

Lavell's last Homecoming v. the Aztecs. It's up, it's gooooood!

Was that Nate Tandberg that hit that? I was watching that one and went APESHIT!!! Would've been cool to be there!

You could not be more correct! Only the stadium now seats around 71,000 since the expansion in '96. It's an ok stadium for the Chargers (just ok, though, but only because they sell out the stadium), but it's not so great for the Aztecs. There was a time when we were occasionally selling out what was then the Murph, but with how bad the team has been lately, 20k is about the norm in a stadium that's just not a good college football venue.

Still, you cannot match the atmosphere of that SDSU-BYU game in '92--you know, the infamous 52-52 game? I cannot imagine an atmosphere ANYWHERE better than that one! What an experience!

I haven't been to many football roadies. Only UNLV and CSU during Van Pelt's senior year, so I don't have much to compare with.

South Bend and Notre Dame. My family and my brother's family were able to travel there for a BYU game a few years back. The tradition and atmosphere were fantastic. You have to park a long distance from the stadium and ride a bus in. The ND fams om the bius both going to and from the stadium were all class. They were very complimentry to us and the team we followed. The Irish fans we sat next to were great. Two of them were brothers. One was from Virginia and the other from New Jersey. They told us that you could not buy season tickets for Irish games. You put your name on a list and they are drawn out like a lottery. They had been trying for several years to get tickets. They claimed that each home game has a different fan base because of this system and yet they still sell out. They told us that the sale of ND sports wear at the bookstore is fantastic week after week because a different group of fans comes into town for each home game. Just being at the stadium and seeing and feeling the tradition was great. They have all their Heisman winners listed indiviually around the stadium. There are many. Sitting in the stands and looking at Touchdown Jesus is something that I will always remember. BYU didn't win that day but the experience was still sweet. I know that the Irish have fallen on some hard times in the last couple of years, but I will always hold a place of respect for Notre Dame and its fans.

The best time at an away game I think I have had was at SDSU when I was in the band and we had a really fun 'Band Battle" in the parking lot. I also had a good time at BYU. They treated myself and my family with a lot of respect and were very classy believe it or not. Out of conference I'd have to say UT austin, although they wern't playing UNLV, I just wanted to experience a "big time" atmosphere, and that is exactly what it was.
