The Mtn on DirecTV

Recommended Posts

Just got off the phone with a local DirecTV dealer here in SLC and the Mtn will be on the "Choice Package".. I'm not a sat expert but I've been told this is a pretty basic package.. The Family Package is the most basic followed by the Choice from what the guy said..

Any word from your neck of the woods?

I've been a Cox Cable guy for years, and have had the mtn. since Dec. 06.

I would think the mtn. might be on the regular sports tier with CBSCS, VS, and the like.

I'm wondering at what point the sports package is included into a package? How much is it as an add on to a lower package? I'm really wondering what deal a guy in Boston can get for the Mtn?

Part of the media hype of having to wait so long was because we were told this is a national deal, so we should start to see some concrete proof of this..

I'd expect SLC to be able to get it without a sports pack. My neck of the woods (Cleveland, OH) will likely need a sports pack.

National to me means that everyone with DirecTV will have access to the mtn., either through a sports pack or as part of the basic package if you are in-market for the mtn.

And not to knock the DirecTV or Dish Network dealers, but they'll tell you anything to get business. Wait for an official release from the mtn. and/or DirecTV.

How much is the sports pack?

BTW, the basic package thing in SLC has been comfirmed by many sources and is now a hot advertising theme..

Sports Pack is "$12 or less." It also includes tons of other channels.

I was the one who called him earlier today(as mentioned in this thead), he said he confimred with Directv and told me it was a great question and would put it in his live add on 1280..

I heard it on the way home today...

So its going to cost average Joe 60-70 bucks a month to have the Mtn.

Thats rad.

Depending on the base package, you could get it for close to $50. But then again that would get you pretty much every MWC football game because CBS-C is on that too. I forget, how much would it cost to get every Boise State game if you live some place other than Idaho? If your recruit's parents are asking, which answer do you want to give them?

Let's be clear.. It might cost a guy with no cable or sat $50 bucks a month.. It will only potentially cost someone with service already and extra $5(Comcast Sports Tier) or $12 with Directv sport's tier. Or in the case of some or many MWC footprint customers, nothing extra..

How many average sports fan's don't have cable or sat?

For someone on the east coast what does Direct TV cost? and what would it be for THE MTN? Any one care to take a stab?

Maybe I am way off base here, but I have heard rumors that DirecTV may have negotiated an "exclusive rights"

type of deal with the Mtn., in order to keep it off DishNetwork. Has anyone else heard such banter?

If I remember correctly (and you all would know way more about this than me), the Rocky Mountain area of the

country is a stronghold for DishNetwork and if these rumors are true, it would make sense for DirecTV in order

to get into more homes in the area.

Again, just something I heard along the way. Could be right or way off the mark.

That was the original rumor. However, now the mtn. is just going to be less favorable in terms to Dish, since they drug their feet so long. If they want it, they'll have to pay more than Directv.

I have been with DirectTv for quite a few years. Bummer when General Motors sold it a couple years ago. New owners have upped the rates about comparable with cable, but more / better programming for the money. I used to get better programming for less money than Comcrap.

Currently, I pay $54.99 / month for Total Choice Plus package which is over 200 channels, but does not include any movie channels such as Showtime, HBO, etc. That price does not include HD, extra receivers or DVR charges. During the fall I subscribe to the sports pack and HBO and they usually give me a package savings, for the sports pack only, it would be $12 / month. If you want to save $, wait till the first game where you need the sports pack to watch a game, then sign up. I think the minimum is one-month signup. Cancel it when the season is over, or sooner if you don't need it to watch the remaining games. So it may be possible to get the sports pack as an add-on for $12-$36 for the MWC season, less than the price of two games on a pay per view basis.

I have tricked DirecTv to give me Fresno local channels. I still pay the same price, but I get more news about the teams I am interested in and occasionally I get local televised games only without having to do ESPN pay per view. I have a antenna to pull in my true local stations (Sacramento).

If anyone is interested in this set-up, PM me and I will give the secret. My hunch is the guy in Boston could get Salt Lake City as his local stations on DirecTv, set-up an antenna in his attic for local Boston stations should he desire.

He won't be able to get SLC locals in Boston. DirecTV delivers the locals via spotbeam technology, so it beams the locals for a markets over a specific range of land. That's why you can get Fresno locals in your area because the spotbeams are not confined directly to the Fresno DMA and they can bleed into other markets. In Boston, if he were to "move" to get a different set of locals, the only ones he probably could get instead of Boston would be Providence, RI and he can probably get those with a good set of rabbit ears due to the proximity of Boston to Providence.
