OT - BYU is Unconvincing

Recommended Posts

Guest #1Stunner

Oh great.... another BYU thread.

On the day that BYU schedules a home-and-home with a PAC12 school (yes, another one), Boise fan feels threatened, and scours the internet to find "bad news" for Indy BYU.

Counterpoints:

(1) BYU never scheduled the SEC anyway

(2) According to Tom Holmoe, BYU is still in the process of scheduling ACC opponents.

Boise fan's boner for all things BYU is weird.

Like Maytard and education...some things don't seem congruent.

Boise fan's boner for all things BYU is weird.

Boise fans (and USU fans, by and large) have a raging Boner about BYU, because 90% of them have BYU fans in their family.

Idaho = BYU property.  (this idea is a very real, annoying reality for them....a large part of Idaho cheers for a school located in a different State).

And the biggest University in the State of Idaho = BYU-Idaho.

That's why we get so many Boise fans loving BYU so much.

BYU is a great mid major program.

HA!

You are the Boise fan that frequently tries so very hard to tell everyone that Boise fans pay little attention to BYU, and don't care about the BYU game that much.

Then we look at the Boise ticket website, and see that Boise actually charges the most for tickets to the Boise-BYU game than any other home game....  It's hard to take your statements seriously.

Just thought it was interesting. This is the first time I've brought up BYU in over a year. It's more about the importance of how they are viewed and the labeling put on them. I guess I didn't think it was that big a deal originally. But it is.

From a BYU fan perspective, BYU just needs to get quality schedules.

Which P5s does BYU historically and recently schedule?

PAC12---we schedule them the most, by far.  Tom Holmoe said today that ESPN is requiring the PAC12 to frequently schedule BYU.  Great news for BYU fans!!

BIG12---they are hard to schedule because they each only have 3 OOC games.  We play their schools occasionally, and would love to schedule them more often.

ACC---we have a history of scheduling ACC schools every once and a while.  Per Tom Holmoe, we are still in the process of doing that, regardless of the P5 statements by them.

SEC---BYU rarely schedules SEC schools, because those schools refuse to play any tough OOC games.

B1G---BYU occassionally schedules a B1G school.  They seem happy to play BYU on occasion.

Beyond the above, BYU will most frequently schedule MWC and AAC.  It is what it is.

SDSU is the other G5 school that has the easiest time scheduling P5 games.

We have a lot of Mormons in Boise of coarse BYU is going to sell tickets. If we were playing the Idaho Vandals the game would be sold out, does that make Idaho a big time program? I m glad were not playing Idaho btw.

Football season is here!!!!!!!!!

Hawaii does a great job getting P5 schools in their stadium. I don't think any of the rest of us could ever get USC to come to our stadium.

Yes, I forgot about Hawaii.  Hawaii does well too---the PAC12 schools love getting that 13th game.

USC is very difficult to schedule because they only really have 2 OOC games to offer.  They have a 9-game conference schedule, plus an annual game with Notre Dame, which only gives them 2 games to use to schedule someone else.  I'm happy they are coming to BYU's stadium in a few years.

Non-P5 schools in the west that have the most success getting P5s to play them 1-and-1 are:

TIER 1:

HAWAII

SDSU

TIER 2:

BYU

WYOMING

UNLV

FRESNO

BOISE

Holmoe said he has spoken to ACC, SEC commishs about them not counting BYU as a Power 5 opponent, but didn't get them to change their minds.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/24669746/byu-cant-convince-acc-sec-its-a-power-5-sc

word from my sources say that BYU is in talks with Home and Home with the NFL.

BYU is a great mid major program.

Nobody going to argue against that... at least nobody in their right mind. BYU is NOT P5 material until the P5 sends an invite and that's regardless of them playing 2-3 P5 teams per year. We are all in the same boat my friend and most (not named BYU) recognize that.
