Jones resigns

Someone should tell Jones that SMU is a coaches graveyard.

"Had to come back real quick for this one.....

Boise St finished 4th in the coaches poll, same as Utah. Had Petersen violated the rules and voted Boise St #1 like Whittingham, Boise St would have finished no worse than THIRD and very likely 2nd. Look at how few votes seperated BSU and Florida.

It's not about the money, and it never was.......at least not in the sense that he's worried about his paycheck. It's about the school's committment to the program and willingness to invest in it. While I've never seen their facilities myself, I've heard that they are as substandard as substandard gets. He wants them to put money into improvements, and he can't get them to do it.

My guess--and it's just an educated guess--is that he went to the administration and demanded that they use a significant portion of the huge windfall he just earned for the school towards revamping their facilities. And I'm guessing the administration hemmed and hawed, dragged their feet, and were noncommittal about doing what is necessary to bring the program into the 1990's.

So what happens now? Either the university does what he wants with the facilities, or he becomes the new Head Coach at SMU--he hasn't accepted the job yet.

Nice job, Hawaii!!! Way to F' up a good thing!

Well if he really is gone that will make the WAC a one team show with a one team supporting cast, a few middle class rejects and a D-1AA bottom core. so much for having a two team supporting cast.

Can't blame him for leaving anyway. their OOC next year is a killer, he would have been lucky to do any better then 1-4, espcialy since he lost Colt and what maybe his top 2 to 3 WR. that is basically their entire offense gone.

Is that still your thought if Mouse Davis and Jerry Glanville move to Honolulu?

Graunke was a solid backup QB and if what this board has been saying all along is correct, Graunke will benefit from a "system" as opposed to personal merit. And the "system" won't be so different if Mouse Davis is the hire.

OMG do you seriously believe the rainbow fairies deserved to be in BcS??

They pretty much showed how they were lucky to walk away with ANY w's off of the volcano in the ocean, now with Jones leaving for a much better deal in Texas you seriously believe that Glanville or Mickey Mouse will take that steaming pile of S hit and still polish a diamond from it??

Only a WaC fan blinded by allegiance would proclaim anything other than what it really is, and that is Jones looking ahead and seeing a whole lot of pain and suffering next season by the rainbow fairies, he just happened to get out in the nick of time.

Good luck Jones, good luck Glanville, and good luck Mickey.

Even with Jones, I didn't see Hawaii finishing any better than 3rd in the WAC. Hawaii has to travel to travel to Fresno St and Boise St this year... Even with Mouse Davis I don't see the program staying at the same level, it would take him time to develop the in roads that June Jones developed with the locals if he ever could. Another thing is Jones recruited a lot of players that had problemed pasts (Colt & Bess to name 2), would Mouse go the same route? Would he be able to keep them under the same type control as June did, if he did go that route? Remember Hawaii's recruiting budget is a whole $50,000, so the new HC better develop a good relationship with the locals and get creative with recruiting the mainland... Also sorry if I don't see Jerry Glanville heading back to Hawaii as their DC, maybe the HC but not the DC. He has been there and done that, he took a HC job at Portland St to get the Hell out of there... I'm even sure he would take the HC job at Hawaii, because knows what the commitment has been like there;

Oh that's part of a long line of botches.

There was the hiring of a women's bball coach for premium $ that hadn't coached in like 6 years. Found him selling propane somewhere.

There is the shabby facilities that he proposed a 5 year plan to recitify... 5 years ago.

There was the leading Team USA in the olympics while the football schedule wasn't done.

Now there's word that some of the asst. coaches had to pay for expenses at the Sugar Bowl while he took his own gf? WTF?

A baseball stadium that doesn't have a field yet.

A track that hasn't had a field in years.

It can go on and on.

In case you don't know "MixedPlate" is a Hawaii fan... All is not well in the Aloha State...

Not a done deal yet... but for all intents and purposes he's gone. Still, there seems to be some questionable/irresponsible reporting going on. Any surprise there? Far too many media outlets (and fan web-sites, for that matter) competing for the scoop. Rumor and innuendo tend to take on life of its own....
