Last mnute MWC hoops predictions

Not that there is any money on this but doing these now enables one to utilize all info......Aztecs Williams injury, Lobo road win at Utep, Roberson leaving Rebels......

1) BYU. Pretty hard to pick someone else, impressive pre conference record. Wonder about their depth.....Plaisted has to stay healthy...

2) UNM. Lobos finished last in 07 and lost play in game but lost plenty of close games and have many key players returning. A new coach has brought discipline and toughness. Though not against top 25 teams their 3 road wins must be considered. IN a year where the conference is young and weak I'm confortable picking UNM here.

3) UNLV. Kreuger may be best coach in conference....surprised last year with great season. Despite losing many key players Rebels appear to be picking up steam...This pick is a bit shaky and Rebs may drop.

4)SDS....Well Aztecs are Aztecs and hard to pick any higher. Have wondered why they never have any depth and seem to play only 6-7 players....This year is different but disappointing that the Shelton kid got hurt...

5)Utah..With such a young team last year initially wondered why coach was canned. Now we can see why. Boylen's team has some good road performances.....

6) TCU ....never follow the personel of the Frogs and Air Force that much....Not a bad loss at Texas....Figure they'll move up this year.

7) Wyo....all along had Air Force in this position but though Cowboys haven't sparkled in non conference play they're starting from scratch like everyone else...Big men have had a few games to get some experience which I think will translate to this position.

8) AF....this might be too low but face it.....4 starters gone.....they could tough it out and rise a spot or 2.

9)CSU....Have a soft spot for the Rams...In football they lost first couple games by little.....If they had one could the season have been much different.....In hoops remember a few years back with the Morris brothers and the freshman point guard Boatner....However he left at mid season and the Morris brothers never seemed to improve that much. With a year to go Michael Harrison didn't come back.....Last season they started well but fizzled......CAn the Rams buy a break??? With coach fired ,Smith turning pro and then practicall the rest of the roster leaving there was little left....You can't help but hope for them.....LIke their new coach and they appear to be a scrappy bunch....Starting 2-3 freshmen...Will they beat anyone???? I think so.....Go Rams.

With the conference so young.....UNLV, SDS, Utah, Wyo, CSU, there could be some surprises........ Though MWC is young and not a player on the national scene it's all about competition what more can one ask for......I'm ready....

FYI-

SDSU goes about 9 deep this year, and has at least 5 players averaging in double figure scoring. Depth has been the least of our problems thus far (not that there's much to complain about to this point!).

"Once an Aztec, Always an Aztec"

CSU Fresno: Accepting SDSU's sloppy seconds since 1911.
