I'm sure this has been disuccused in other threads but who is your "Hated Foes?"

1. MWC?

Besides losing to Wyoming, I hate losing to the Lobos! I'm not sure why? Maybe it's because I hate that F&*King ballon fest in Albq! Sorry, I know it is a big deal down there in LiL' Mexico. But who is the MWC foe for you? TCU?

2. Outside the MWC?

It can't be NMSU, there jokers. Is it really UTEP? Has this changed over the years?

Let me know...

It's only a matter of time....

BYU and Utah have been MWC rivals for ages, but I think a rivalry is really brewing right now with UNLV, especially in men's BB. And the balloon fiesta is the most photographed event in the world. If you've never attended it, it is breathtaking. What's this about flaming New Mexico? Our rival sure as hell isn't CSU...no competition there in a long time.

Outside of the MWC and other than NMSU? Probably UTEP. That is a very old rivalry and has been hard fought for decades.

Oh, I have been to the Ballon fest, you can have it! I know CSU isn't your rival but UNLV would make sense. How close is UTEP to NMSU?

I could see UNLV & UNM being "paired" in a 6-team "SOUTH" division in a 12-team MWC... along with SDSU-Fresno and TCU-Texas school to be named later

I know that UNM and Wyoming aren't consided true rivals, but we have played each other a thousand times, and I always have liked playing them. Things got kind of ugly a few years ago during the BB game in the PIT, but I think that is pretty uncharacteristic of both teams. I think that there is a level of respect between the two teams, as well as the fans that is not present with our rivalry with CSU.

But aren't we ALL really just working for food?

UNLV vs UNM is starting to be a big rivalry in B-Ball no doubt about that. Just visit either of our rivals B-Ball boards. Too bad we can't field a decent football team, we might be able to forge a full fledged rivalry. i seriously hate that freakin wolf howl thing that the lobo fans do.

Why is it everyone has to take shots at other locales? But since we are and to defend the beautiful state of New Mexico, I've been to Fort Collins several times, and I'll just say I wouldn't be taking shots at New Mexico or Albuquerque if I lived in Fort Collins. Most parts of Colorado are beautiful (I used to live in SW Colorado), but I don't think I would put Fort Collins anywhere near the top of the list.

Anyway, back to the topic, within the MWC, I think UNM's main rivals are probably UNLV (in basketball) and Utah in both basketball and football (although I'm sure Utah doesn't consider UNM their main rival, obviously).

Outside of the MWC, NMSU is clearly their main rival, even though the Aggies suck in football. UTEP would be a distant second.

I love Balloon Fest. I lived in Corrales when it was just a little town, not the sprawling mass of urbanization that it and Rio Rancho comprise today.

Anyway, balloons used to land all around my house. I had a few acres on the mesa and would just sit on my back stoop and watch the balloons all morning. I even used to have extra coffee brewing because more than once balloonists would request a cup. I'd even Irish it up for them.

Lazy mornings watching the balloons in October. Life is good.

Good memories. Happy memories.

Balloon Fest is spectacular.

Corrales is still maintaining its rural qualities - I would hardly call it a mass of urbanization (no thanks to a few developers, who would love to turn us into another Rio Rancho/Paradise Hills.) And you're right - the view of the balloons with the mountain backdrop is amazing.

FB rivals - UU/BYU (because they're usually very good,) and NMSU (because they're usually very bad.)

Then you have never been to Fort Collins. You must be confusing it with Laramie.

Click the link; it says Fort Collins is the best place to live in the USA.

I personally don't think Fort Collins is the best place to live in the country, but it's a damn nice town.

Never been to Laramie, so can't be confusing it.

I'm mostly just talking smack in response to your smack talk about Albuquerque. Fort Collins is actually nice, although there are other cities in Colorado that I would rather live. I actually almost attended CSU - I was accepted, but then came to my senses. :D

Albuquerque has made it's share of "Best of" lists, as well.

All some CSU fans can do is take shots a locales. What else do they got?

I too enjoy the Balloon Fest. The Wyo vs. UNM game is the weekend the Fest begins this fall. I'm planning on making the trip and staying a few extra days. This makes the second game in a row (on the road) vs the Lobos that Wyo fans get to enjoy the Balloon Fest. My trips usually include a day in Sante Fe.

In case ppl don't have a log in.

I would agree that Utah is our biggest rival in the MWC and NMSU outside of it.

I think that's pretty consistent. But it's a frustrating/friendly rivalry....I cheer for UNM as long as Utah (or TCU) is matched up. Been some great games of late in FB, and MBB is starting to come around. Seems like UNM was one of the teams that ruined a potentially good run for the Utes....probably what drove the "rival" thing for me.

Nothing to really say here.....except GO MWC!!
