Bombs are dropped in Syria

Recommended Posts

fighting mostly against our own weapons from when we armed the iraq military and they just melted away leaving them all for ISIS to use.  We can't win a war in the middle east. Simple fact.

From what I've read they're likely using the B-1 bomber in Syria. It can fly over high, very fast, and fire precision munitions. In the areas where Assad is still in control, they probably still have the radar system going, which was pretty advanced. They also have the high-altitude AA missiles, although I imagine Syrian maintenance is dodgy. I can't imagine they're using standard attack aircraft at lower altitudes where anything ISIS has captured could get them.

Ironic that they've found a use for the B-1. It was a complete boondoggle back in the day.

It was never a boondoggle.  Lefties tried to convince everyone it was boondoggle, and largely succeeded.  Just like the F22, the Nimitz, the Osprey, the F15, Patriot, Abrams, BMD, and pretty much every other big ticket item.

The ignorant racist liberals on this board were all laughing at McCain a month ago and his wanting to arm the moderates.  They seem real quiet now that Leon Panetta, Hilary and supposedly all the rest of Obama's staff were on the same page as McCain.

Not that I think we should be fighting in Syria or not.  I just am pointing out another of the funny partisan examples from our local Liberals.

I still think arming the rebels is a bad idea. Our history teaches us those weapons may be used against us in the not too distant future.

On the news it was said they will train 5000 of the Syrian Rebels and it will take a year. Those 5000 might be able to defend and hold an area, but probably not take the fight to ISIS.

Arming the "rebels" is no bueno.

Doing nothing is no bueno, they'll just keep sawing American heads off, then worse.

Airstrikes with no force (be it proxy or ours) on the ground is worthless.

Significant US combat troops is politically impossible and operationally questionable.

Just like the mortage meltdown, all the options are shitty.  Make a decision and stick to it because "if go down the middle, get squished like grape".

Hear Saudi Arabia is flying and dropping bombs as well

Yes, in fact the US was the only non Arab nation involved. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar and Jordan were involved. IMO having them involved is a good idea and shows how hard John Kerry has worked to bring this all together. Apparently we also notified Damascus we were going to do this and they gave the ok. I still think at some point defeating DAESH will need to be done with the Iranians and getting them to sit down with us and the Saudis to end this thing in Syria. The Iranians want us to give them more freedom for their nuclear program which at this point is not an option. Peace in the Middle East will not be attainable without the Iranians and Saudi's working out their differences which doesn't seem likely. IMO alienating the Iranians only makes things worse.

We're laughing at Obama and his cronies too, arming anyone but the Kurds is a bad idea at this point, McCain is still an old senile fool and Obama is an idiot for going along with it.

Anyone else wonder what former Senator Obama from Illinois would say about the military actions of President Obama? Man, I sorta miss that guy.

ISIS/ISIL needs to be taken out............this military action is absolutely needed

Also need to choke off the funding

I agree with that.

Not sure how it's going to happen though.  Someone is going to have to take and hold ground.

We're not going to do it, so who is?  The Iranians?  No, that just inflames the sectarian issue.  Assad?  No, the civil war started with him in a much better position than he is now, so it's going to continue with him in power.  The Gulf nations aren't go to send anyone.

We're not going send regulars into Syria and I'm not saying we should.

But where are we going to be in 6 months?  ISIS will go to ground, which will make airstrikes less effective as times goes on.  Eventually we will accidently bomb a school or daycare, which will drastically change the political and public relations situation regarding airstrikes.  I'm not sure the airstrikes will accomplish much in resolving Syria.

It might buy some time and space for Iraq to sort things out with their government and military, so maybe they can eject ISIS from Iraq.  But that process won't be easy either.

Dumb idea that's just going to lead to more problems down the road.

Isn't "taking the fight to them over there" basically the Bush strategy?!?! Remember as Cheney & Lindsay Graham say "we are all going to die here" if we don't take them on over there.

Several of those are boondoggles. Name me one weapon system that:

1) performed in accordance with the original specs

2) stayed within original cost estimates

I can't think of one.

The Abrams, the F-15, F/A-18, M-777, and any of the MRAP variants have all proved their worth. The V-22 was a mess in the beggining, but has now become a work horse for the Marine Corps.

Low presidential popularity polls are the only thing driving this.   O is really is not committed and our "allies" know it.

exactly why the republicans are pushing it to keep the base happy
