spc_ops
The Stanford curb-stomping UCLA and Arizona surviving a close one, the Wildcats are the South champ.
masterfrog
Maybe Oregon can finally figure out a way to compete with Arizona. The Wildcats have had their number the last couple of years.
boisewitha-s
Wonder if they'll keep az in Phoenix for fiesta bowl. Would think team would want to go somewhere else. "but we only lost to Stanford by 3."
Jack Bauer
That's a virtual home game. I think they'd prefer it.
Wyobraska
AZ would prefer it, but I am sure the Fiesta Bowl committee would want anyone but Arizona. It would sell tickets but not as many hotels, restaurants, etc would see the benefit.

Truly the largest uncared about figure in regards for how "big" this game is supposed to be, nationally. This is only a "let's see if Oregon blows it again" game to the national observer. I'm just to the point with bowl games that I don't give one crap about how the hotels and restaurants do because of the bowl. That's the last thing on my mind. I want to see a good matchup with quality teams. The local economy can eat a bucket of dog weiners.

I just want to see good football, which hasn't happened recently. I think Bowl Games have gotten worse for the most part in terms of intriguing matchups. I was purely posting from the Fiesta Bowl's perspective. I am still amazed that such a crappy system exists that is built to make the local economies money. namssa
Arizona is in Tuscon not Phoenix/Tempe which is a couple hours away so they will fill hotels, probably more than most teams since its driving distance. I'm sure the Fiesta Bowl would love to have Arizona. I see an Arizona vs. Boise State matchup.

Plus a lot of their alumni are already in the Phoenix metro area.

Well, the first thing they need to do is start giving good dates so more fans can attend, which imo means that there are no bowls before Christmas. They need less bowls so it means something. Nobody cares to see SJSU play LA Lafayette.

I can't believe the MW doesn't have a bowl game before Christmas unless we make the Access Bowl. That is craptastic.

That is craptastic. Agreed. I've said for years that the MWC champ deserves a better game than the Vegas Bowl. You wish the Vegas Bowl people would make it a bigger game by increasing the payout and maybe the PAC would move it up the chain a bit for a better team. Some years even the middle to lower tier PAC team is too much for the MWC champion to handle.
happycamper
Further proof that the PAC truly is Oregon and everyone else. It is the west coast Big Ten Yes, that difference between the number eleven team and number two is huge, just like in previous seasonswhen Stanford and usc competed and beat Oregon for the championship. While Oregon is clearly the best team, I dint think it's substantially different than, say, Alabama winning three out of five seasons. Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard. StanfordAggie
I can assure you that the Fiesta Bowl doesn't care at all about hotel rooms or restaurants. Second-tier bowls might care a little bit about these things, but these days far and away the most important consideration for bowls is what matchup will produce the best TV ratings. As for the Fiesta Bowl, given the millions of dollars that ESPN is paying them to produce an exciting game, they don't give a rat's ass about the local economy. They just want the best ratings possible so that ESPN keeps writing checks.

Oregon has won exactly three PAC-12 titles since 2001. They haven't come close to dominating the league.
