I'm quite happy being in the MWC. I also like our current group of teams. A lot of regional rivalries. Besides Hawaii, everybody in the west division is within driving distance (or a cheap flight).

For SJSU, it's an obvious "yes."  I know some here doubt the Spartans' ability to compete, but the first year 5-3 conference (football) record was encouraging.   We knew hoops was going to be bad (maybe not 1-17 bad, but it is what it is).  seems like football recruiting has been solid and we're only starting year two in Caragher's regime, so no real reason for panic.  Better yet, the new DC is a significant upgrade over the prior one.  Replacing Fales will be a test, for sure, but the cupboard isn't completely empty there (Jr. Joe Gray and Sr. Blake Jurich).  Also, as Mug says, I like the Western division teams...

San joser will be the demise of this conference. They just don't fit. Large market with no support. I would take smaller markets that care about their team every time.

I think the MWC made its decision not only based on today's production. They are making a decent bet that support will follow SJSU. It's the 3rd largest city in CA. More importantly last year it had .5 million in tv viewers in a market that is >4.5 million. They can easily siphon off viewers from Cal, and a few from Stanford. Cal SUCKS pretty hard right now!

Monetarily SJSU was the best move to be made, by far. Doesn't matter that the fan support isn't there yet. SJSU represents the largest media market the MWC owns. It is such a steal, I would have salivated of the numbers and potential of SJSU.

Granted, there is much work to be done. having the numbers means little if  there isn't an on field product that is worth watching. Luckily the MWC is filled with in-state rivals for SJSU. this equals tons of CA viewers. if SJSU can create a product people will tune in for, the MWC will be viewed as a genius. This is partly why they required so many commitments from SJSU before joining, They have to improve facilities first and foremost, and improve their basketball program. If these are solved, fingers crossed, the MWC will be a much better place.

My question is why teams like CSU, WYO, HAW, UNM+UNLV - basketball, have room to talk. SDSU is in a huge market and has a great product. Boise is in a small market but has an amazing product, Fresno is a small market but a strong product, AFA equates to a huge market, but terrible product. SJSU Massive market mediocre product for now. HAW? worst possible market ever, no one watches anything on the rock because it comes on so late. CSU and WYO I don't think have many subscribers. UNM and UNLV are very strong in basketball, and i think college sports are moving  towards BBall and away from FB.

If anyone is going to be the demise of this conference it's WYO, CSU, UNR, and HAW. I can go either way with UNR, but USU has potential to become a great resource. BYU would be a good addition, from a pure monetary standpoint.

I'm not voting, but I like the fellow Cal State's coming in.  Nevada and Boise were obvious adds, and USU brings in a surprisingly good FB team.  They need to get the Spectrum back, they get their hearts crushed once, and they quit.  4th best BB atmosphere in the MW, until proven otherwise.

The main thing I have wanted as a sjsu fan was to be in the same conference with Fresno, SDSU, UH, UNR, and UNLV, and that's exactly what we have now. So needless to say, I'm very happy with the current set up.

You are in a huge TV market and yet you are absolutely irrelevant in the market. How can you take that as a positive? Let's be real for a sec.

Secondly, Hawaii has been abismal since its inclusion into the MWC. That has not been good for the MWC and that is all on Chow. We take ownership for that. If anything, what hurts the MWC more is our lack of wins on the field and not so much our TV market.

I like the MWC. I might have made a few different decisions were I in charge, but I'm quite happy with it. Solid conference with good rivalries. If it holds together long-term, I think Boise will finally develop some nice rivalries.

Of course they aren't happy with any of the new members. We know they would rather not have any of us.

That has been apparent all along. Long befor BSU was added. Whatever the reasons and necessity of it was and is the original members aren't happy with any of the adds. No one likes a shot gun wedding.

Re-read my post. I clearly state exactly what you said. SJSU is in a massive market, but haven't put together anything more than a mediocre product.

The problem I notice is your exclusion of SJSU in the demise of the conference. Even in your recent success...you guys are still irrelevant in your market. I'd lump you guys in with the names you mentioned. Yeah you might have a decent football product now....you still are irrelevant in the market place and have an abismal fan base.

Even if SJSU were winning they wouldn't fill the stadium

Just not enough interest in CFB in that area and they already have to fight Stanford and Cal for interest. I think there is more local interest in the Sharks than the sparties

There IS more local interest in the sharks. It is what it is.
