I wonder how many AD's are stiff miffed by BSU tv contact..

This is what happens when you go  10+ years dominating teams and high TV ratings. You earn special privileges along the way. When you're team can go on a run like we did for over 10 years, then feel free to force the conference into giving you a better TV deal.

You realize unequal revenue sharing is what the most unstable conferences employ, right?

I said when they signed it - that the tv deal would become a serious issue in the next couple years - even then I didn't suspect BSU to plummet as fast as they have either.  They're just an average team now, and if that continues, how long before ESPN wants to renegotiate the deal too!

What is sad, Fresno State won an outright MWC title last season and luckily CBS didn't pick up a lot of our games. Wyoming made about the same as us and BSU still made more after the crappy season they had. We got very lucky, it could of been worse had CBS taken more of our games.

  • Boise State: $1.6 million
  • Fresno State: $1.3 million
  • Wyoming: $1 million

This contract will divide the MWC over time. There should be no reason a crappy BSU team should make more money over a team that has worked hard on winning an outright title. BSU could be at the bottom of the MWC and they still make more than a team that wins the MWC outright. Eyeballs or not.

Boise's domination years:

LATECH, SAN JOSE, NMSU, IDAHO, HAWAII, USU and then a slate of games against the MAC.

Their dominant years are when they played crappy schools. Even Fresno was mostly down back in the WAC.

Yeah...it's not long term heathy...that's for sure. Vegas and CSU got shut out on bonus money last year I believe...hence getting only the divided up remainder which was about 1 mil per. So Boise made about 2.5 times the TV money as the zero bonus teams.

Similar to BYU's 1984 championship run.

Perhaps... But BYU has ALWAYS played tougher schedules than Boise. We've played Utah for years, and have always played the MWC programs that are now schooling Boise.

My understanding is ESPN can purchase or otherwise arrange to take games they want to televise.  As they are interested in viewers, the better your school is doing, the more likely you get on ESPN and a bonus.

So I could see a few MW schools earning lots of bonus money if they do well.

This is what doesn't make sense.  Wyoming made a little less than Boise and Fresno, yet we went 5-7 (3-5 in conference).

BSU is being rewarded for having a product that is in demand.

The MWC teams want more welfare. They think they should benefit as much as BSU for the program and demand BSU has worked for.

BRAP!

I haven't seen Boise fans feel so threatened in quite a while. Circle the wagons...

Are you saying Boise plays tougher schedules than BYU, and that's why Boise (like BYU) has an independent contract with ESPN? HA! BYU fans would riot if we had as crappy of a schedule as you guys play this year..
