Fun little fact: Stanford lost 20-17 to UC Davis back in '05, while they were still transitioning to D1

Multiple times but not a thousand but whatever the total is you can add one more. THE P5 WILL SPLIT FROM THE G5 TO FORM DIVISION IV. THE GAP IS HUGE AND INSURMOUNTABLE.

True, youve probably only said it around 300-400 times.

Do it now before the AAC sinks their claws in BYU.

BYU will look to kill the MWC so we must kill off any potential suitors first.

Invite Houston, SMU, Memphis and Cincinnati. Scalp the AAC.

Houston just paid an exit fee to CUSA.  And an entry fee to the American.  And we hit the jackpot.

UCF won the Fiesta.  UConn swept the basketball titles.  And we have a great TV deal in terms of ESPN exposure.  Our league is for real.

It would cost us a ton of dough to leave the American now.  There's simply no way Houston or any other American school is making a move right now unless it's a P5 offer.

If the American ever gets raided, you'd have a much more compelling argument.  But as long as it stays intact, no one is budging.

With regard to BYU, it's no secret that we like them.  It's no secret that with Navy on board, we'd invite Army and/or Air Force as football only if they wanted to come.  Aside from those three schools, we really aren't in the market.  I guess SDSU and Boise might be potential candidates if BYU insisted they come, but there's a lawsuit with Boise right now over their exit fee.    I don't see that happening.

MWC does not need to worry about BYU "torpedoing" the MWC.....  All MWC has to do is facilitate BYU football being and Indy, and the MWC will be fine.

As has been explained on here, BYU does not want to join the AAC, necessarily, and will only do so if it absolutely has to (i.e., it can't make scheduling work as an Indy).

MWC can stop that and can ensure that BYU is successful as an Indy (meaning stop BYU from joining the AAC), by each school doing their part to give BYU NOVEMBER games.  UNLV is doing its part:

http://byucougars.com/m-football/byu-unlv-agree-home-and-home-football-series

MWC is also going to let BYU have the Las Vegas and Hawaii bowls 2 out of the next 6 years (very smart of the MWC to do this).

Worst idea ever is for the MWC to try and black ball scheduling BYU, or to disallow scheduling BYU in November.  This will cause BYU to need to join a conference as a football only (AAC), and SDSU and BOISE would be thrilled to join any conference that BYU is in.  SDSU would bolt on the MWC in a heartbeat.  It would really hurt the MWC.... (no one wants this to happen).

So, no worries here.....  Hair Thompson / CBS Sports has seen the light and is now encouraging MWC schools to schedule BYU in November

The American has a lot of things going for it, I agree.

You all get a lot of ESPN games, and UConn basketball is huge for you guys.

Houston is a really fun school to play football games against.  I enjoy having Houston on the schedule.

Houston and the rest of the AAC don't see the writing on the wall either. The P5 will announce in August their total complete separation from the G5 to form Division IV. The P5 will NOT bring any G5 team including BYU along with them. The AAC and MWC try to argue who is the 6th best conference but it doesn't matter the difference between the 2 top G5 teams is insignificant the difference between the MWC/AAC and the P5 IS HUGE AND INSURMOUNTABLE. The P5 will not add the stench that is Houston, UCONN, CINCI, UCF, SDSU, BSU, FRESNO STATE, CSU, UNM, UNLV. Learn to get along because you are all stuck in Division 1A when the P5 leave to form Division IV.

It matters not what the AAC does or does not do.  You guys will NOT be included in Division IV.  That means you will compete at a lower level with the MWC, MAC, SBC, and CUSA for G-5 supremacy.   The sooner you accept your fate, the easier it will be on you.  Denying reality doesn't change it.

Dead giveaway with the all caps "NOT".  Kid needs to get a life.  He's got big dreams of going to SLS, but he needs to pass the 11th grade first.

Ur's is a rationale answer to the original post.  And yet much of the Expansion Moves of the last 4 years are rather irrational.

UH & SMU need to whiter-away for awhile in the AAC... especially post UConn & Cincy departures.

LOL.

The American and MWC averaged 1M viewers per football telecast last year.  The Pac 12, Big 12 and ACC averaged less than 2 million viewers per telecast.

More?  Yes.

Huge?  No.
