Sure UNM would bring back wrestling. Lobos use to filed some very good teams. Title9 was a factor in losing "rasslin" and gymnastics.

It sucks. They also had a really good men's gymnastics program that got the Title 9 axe.

Fresno/Clovis are big wrestling towns. Tons of major D-1 talent going to schools like Penn State, Illinois, Lehigh, Oregon State, etc. If we can keep some of those top kids at home we'll be a top 25 team in a few years. Moron ex-AD should never have cut it.

Exactly...

I know you know...but for those that don't...there are 2 Fresno/Clovis area high schools currently in most national top 10 rankings (Clovis and Buchanan) and another program in most national top 50 rankings (Clovis West)...Fresno loves wrestling as does Bako and most of the Central Valley...like TheDogg says...tons of talent.

Tevis Barlett out of Cheyenne East HS has won numerous national championships while in HS.  Heckuva football player too.  He'll be playing at one of those Pac12 schools north of you guys next fall.

Good stuff...one of my sons wrestled in elementary school and now, as a middle school student, it has really helped him for both football and basketball. The physicality really carries over to other sports.

Wrestlers make the best football players in my experience.

I saw that when I went digging in the googles...

This kid Nick Nevills was one of the most dominant heavyweight wrestlers in the history of California. He won the 285lbs state championship as a FRESHMAN. 3rd as a soph, and won it junior and senior years.

Here is his 2014 championship match where he pins the kid, and unintentionally tears the kid's rotator cuff. When he was 12 years old, he was pinning HS seniors regularly.

Announcement expected today on the time line for wrestling to come back to Fresno State.

From the Fresno Bee:

"The Bulldogs could be a fit in one of two conferences — the Pac-12 includes Arizona State, Cal State Bakersfield, Boise State, Cal Poly, Oregon State and Stanford; and the Western Wrestling Conference includes Air Force, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming."

Unfortunately for fellow conference mates, I see the Pac-12 as a better fit for us geographically. Lower travel costs, no real altitude issues to deal with.

Hey, you'll still have us! (Although we suck bad right now.)

Bullet points from the announcement today...

- Fresno State will add wrestling and women's water polo to balance for title IX.

- Both sports expect to be fully funded by June 1, 2015 (this never would have happened under the old AD who couldn't raise two nickels to rub together).

- Look to start the hiring process for a coach by December 2015.

It is to bad they aren't able to get a coach and bring in a few kids to Red shirt next season and start the following year. Waiting until December to hire a coach will cost the school a few Valley wrestlers.

That said I have heard a few may decline going elsewhere and do an unofficial gray shirt at FS. Hope they are correct, a ton of great wrestlers in the area, and they will have a shot to see the mat very early on without upperclassmen already penciled in.

Good for Fresno that they are bringing it back.  Unfortunately it's now re-enter Fresno, exit Cleveland State.  CSU is dropping wrestling and will start up men's lacrosse instead.

I thought it warranted a post here instead of starting a new thread

The only rassler I ever liked was Randy "Macho Man" Savage, and that was mostly due to his hot lady Elizabeth.
