Machi - why?

That's probably the game

I said the same thing.  I think Peavey deserved another hitter or two.  Machi has had some bad outings of late - I sorta figured he'd give up at least one run.  And Strickland?  FFS, HE'S NOT READY, Bruce!!!  Too bad about Lincecum, as he was pitching pretty decently (granted, it was sort of in "garbage time").  And now it looks like he's hurt.  All of sudden the Giants have a dearth of righty relievers...

Baseball? I don't know what you guys are talking about. Spring training isn't for several months. :)

Hey now, there is still a blue crew playing this postseason :). they just happen to be from Kansas City

I didn't get that either. Machi and Strickland have been getting wrecked the whole postseason. Strickland is tipping his pitches or letting his fastball catch way, way too much of the strike zone and Machi can't keep his splitter down which is the easiest pitch to go yard against in baseball if not located correctly. Just stupid and defies all logic. Bochy for being a postseason mastermind, made the wrong move there.

But the Giants bullpen is fine. Machi and Strickland are the weak links of bullpen. Bochy for some reason just held back his big guns.  He totally conceded game 2 by doing that. Where was Affeldt, Petitt, Lopez, Romo, and Casillia? They have been money in the postseason.

That rookie reliever that Bochy brings in might be good some day, but he's not ready yet.

Win or lose, the Giants need to get a starter and maybe a reliever during the offseason.

I hope Lincecum didn't injure himself badly enough that he can't pitch the rest of the series.

He looked good, especially considering he hadn't pitched in over 3 weeks.

Giants may have another concern: KC's catcher is starting to hit again.

Salvador Perez had only four hits and two rbi in 34 postseason ABs coming into the World Series; he's 2/7 with a hr and three rbi already in just two WS games.

That sixth inning was exactly why the bullpen has issues.

Lopez pitched, but he is a lefty specialist. You can't throw him a whole inning. And asking Affeldt, Romo and Casilla to pitch four innings is stretching them, especially so early in the series. Petit is tough. He is best as a long reliever, and with a tie game, you need might need him in extra innings. And you almost can count on needing him in either the upcoming Vogelsong or Hudson starts.

Machi was a logical choice there and Strickland had pitched well in the blowout in Game 1. But now you have to cross off Strickland and Machi. And with two starters that struggle to get through the 6th up next, that could be problematic. Timmy looked like the answer for five hitters. Then he got hurt. The bullpen is in a bind. Hudson has to have a quality start.

the good thing about being in KC was that with a designated hitter, those relievers wouldn't need to be pinch-hit for.  Also, there was going to be an off day between games 2 and 3.  Bochy could have thrown his top relievers out there without too much concern.

I think the Royals just phoned in the rest of Game 1 in the 9th, and possibly made Strickland look better than he was on purpose to give Bochy a false sense of security to throw him in a more critical situation down the line like in the 6th in Game 2 so they could hit bombs off him like everyone else has.--But I dont think Ned Yost is that smart. I just don't get that Strickland kid, he's got nasty sh*t but he just gets overly cocky reaching for ego swing and miss strikeouts and throws that 97-100mph heater right in their happy zone in hopes of blowing it past them--and he gets burnt. These guys are Major leaguers, they can hit fastballs--hell, that approach would get you shelled in the minors.

Eh, I'm fine with the decision. But sometimes +++++ doesn't go right. In hindsight, Affeldt would have been a better choice, but what the hell? Bochy liked his matchups. He lost this battle, but I have learned to trust his judgement.

Nobody let Strickland look good on purpose. But he is biting off too much of the plate with his fastball. He also threw a wild pitch with a breaking ball. He seems to lose command in pressure situations, which is why he shouldn't be trusted. He throws flames, but until he can prove otherwise, it's mop-up duty for him. Not sure what you do with Machi.

SF is still going to win this in 5.

That's my prediction as well. I wasn't shocked to see they split in KC.

I predicted the Royals would win it in 6 games on another thread before the Series began, and I'm sticking with it.
