Why Tony Sanchez will transform UNLV

Higher speed? Last time I was there it took 40 minutes to drive 5 miles. What is this fast paced lifestyle you guys talk about? I've been to Vegas more times than I care to remember. Minus the casinos, it's not all that much different than any other large city.

Traffics never really been an issue for me here. Everything is pretty much 15 minutes away ever since they expanded the 2-15. Las Vegas has new, wide roads pretty much everywhere. Good luck finding a pothole. Transportation gets an A here in comparison to most large cities. Especially back east. I visited Cleveland once and there was more potholes than road.

Just avoid Durango between Trop and DI, might be the worst maintained stretch of road in the Valley

Agreed.  Las Vegas is characterized as this weird place but the only things that is really weird or atypical are the casino areas.  The rest is pretty much Phoenix/Scottsdale.  I would say that the traffic is very manageable for a city this size, though.  Like 18 said, wide avenues and one thing that doesn't get mentioned enough is plenty of parking and its mostly free.  Older cities of relatively similar size, like Denver, usually cannot boast that.

denver is much bigger and much older

the traffic here in denver is easily 100 times worse than traffic in vegas

denver would kill for the freeways vegas has

I lived in Ammon , Idaho for a year and despite being a suburb of Idaho Falls which has like 50K people the traffic sucked. One lane everywhere, 2 roads going from downtown Idaho Falls to Ammon. In Vegas I can take 25 streets that essentially get me near where I need to be and if I get stuck behind the asshat who drives 35 in a 45 I can blow by them in one of the other lanes. I'll take that anyway of the week.

I will second that one.  I have seen many cars go up in the air when headed North on Durango.

Durango at DI is really bad, huge bump but it's like the area between Spring Mtn and Trop hasn't been paved in 20 years, it's uneven and just awful.

plus people in las vegas generally understand how freeway traffic works

i've never encountered as many left lane offenders (and i've driving across the country, twice) as i have in denver

people are just not smart here

plus i don't think i've seen an accident on the freeway. it's just traffic from people that don't understand how traffic works and have no concept of spacing

It's entertaining just to read the chest thumping that concrete, a bunch of lights, minimal laws and water bring to a desert.   Clearly, if you want to 'plug in' to high priced entertainment and feel big time, Vegas is great. We've done it a few times and it's been fun.

In Boise, you are not likely to get the UFC big time show in town,  or Celine Dion(sp?).  But you can get rodeo, minor league sports and monster trucks, just like Vegas!  And maybe not Kraft Steak but you can get pretty good eats here too.  Then you can walk to good fly fishing or drive 25 minutes to good skiing.  Whitewater rafting an hour away, etc.

To each his own and I've always said I'm glad there's places like Vegas so people that are attracted to that lifestyle will move there.

yup, all that is here, too, except maybe walking distance to fly fishing. but tons of ATV trails, hiking, and you may have heard of the nearby colorado river. loved my jetski. there's hunting literally outside my back door, fishing 10 minutes away, my community is filled with rodeo arenas. what lifestyle do you think we live? i go to work, people go to church just like in boise (huge mormon population here), meet with friends and in general do all the things that you do. snow skiing is 45 minutes away, water skiing on lake mead is 20 minutes away. sure, if you want to hang out on the strip you can, but most locals rarely go up there unless family and friends come into town and want to see all the wonders there. when i go to the mgm this weekend, it will be at least a year since i was there. but i can...i have that option. weather is awesome except for about 2 months when it's a little toasty, lol, but we don't have to shovel snow or deal with that white crap on the roads that you do. just sayin...

Lol at the Vegas circle jerk. The most cultured city in the world with the smartest drivers ever and great freeways.

And a high school coach coaching unlv football. Life is good.

lol.  You sure you didn't go to unr.  You sound like one of those little big men.

much different than the boise circle jerk, right? nowhere did we say vegas is the most cultured city in the world, but we will set straight anyone who tries to tell us what a chit hole vegas is, or that it is such a worse place to live than boise. you really have no idea...

Pfft traffic is not a problem here. It takes longer to get from boise to Nampa at 5pm than it takes to get from Craig road to silvarado ranch here.

Of course there isn't.

Vegas might be fun for a weekend, but I'd rather live in Bosie.

To me Reno & Boise are very similar..........both similar weather (Reno not quite as cold)............both metro's are similar populations.............both have rivers running thru them.................both have mountains on one side & high desert on the other...............given the two, I'd take Reno area over Boise.

Reno not quite as isolated as Boise & Tahoe is a plus for Reno.........a few more interesting things around Reno also.

I also basically grew up in Reno Sparks which might sway me & keep me loyal to Nevada.............even though I did go to college at U of Idaho

LV area doesn't get the road funds we need so 5000 cars per day can drive from Reno to Carson City on a $600 Million dollar heated bridge..................and because a burg of 50,000 people (Carson City) really needs a freeway bypass to that 2000 cars of the 5000 can get to the Carson Valley 5 minutes faster!!

So while northern Nevada is building miles of freeway for a pittance of traffic..................we in LV area sit in grid lock
