Weshender

2008 Night of Champions

Recommended Posts

TCU does a similar thing that they hold in the basketball stadium and they make a event out of it. I don't know how the people did this year, but every weight room record at TCU has fallen at least once since Patterson took over. Here are TCUs current records

Clean: 475 (Anthony Alabi)

Squat: 870 (Blake Schlueter)

Incline 540 (Zach Bray and B. Johnson)

Bench 650 (Zach Bray)

A couple of points...

Those TCU numbers are borderline insane. Very impressive, almost too impressive if you know what I mean.

Question for Weshender: The Lobos are one of the strongest teams in the NCAA, really? I mean there are 119 D-IA Football teams in the NCAA at what percentile to do you think the Lobos would honestly rank at?

Lots of programs are devaluing the classic Power Lifts... They think that other lifts have more value for on-field performance. Beyond that there is less emphasis on achieving the absolute one lift maximums on any lift. Partly because they want to build more endurance and partly because the rate of injury of players driven to achieve Maximum Lifts is not seen "worth it." I know that is the philosophy of the current Utah Strength Staff.

That said the numbers I have seen come out of both the BYU and Utah weight rooms seem higher than the numbers posted in that article I feel pretty confident in saying that as teams both BYU and Utah are stronger than the Lobos.

When I say ,one of the strongest teams in the country, I mean across the board. I believe that their are not many programs that can say they have 44 players that can clean 300+lbs. We might not have the huge numbers as TCU , BYU or Utah but we have big numbers up and down the board. I was talking to UNM football strength coach he told me that their are not a lot of teams at their that have 40 players on their team that can clean 300lbs.

Those are just the numbers reported in the TCU media guide as the weight room records, the only one I can say I know is 100% true is the squat. That was at the 2007 night of champions and I saw that one with my own eyes. The Texas state high school powerlifting champion last year had a squat of 810, so 870 is not out of reach by any means. The Texas state champion for high school had a bench of 525, so again 640 is very impressive but not out of reach after 4 or 5 years of a D1 stength program.

Can you say HORSE STEROIDS?

Are those guys with those records prematurely balding, increasingly moody, etc?

Those numbers are INSANE.

Please share those numbers youve seen, and we can compare and contrast.
