TrueAg
Throw sentimental choice out the window. Based on results only, does coach Morrill deserve to win COY? Consider this: 14 = number of players on roster last season (walk-ons not included) - of those, 4 graduated & 6 quit or were "counseled" out of the program 4 = total returning players on the roster - (Jalen Moore, Viko Noma'aea, Jojo McGlaston, Sean Harris) 0 = returning starters 17 = the most average minutes of playing time by any returner (Jalen Moore) 5.6 = the most average points of any returning player (Jalen Moore) 10 = number of freshmen or sophomores on the current roster 11 = number of players (including walk-ons) that are new to the roster this year and in their first season at USU 10 = place USU was picked to finish out of 11 in the MWC pre-season polls Last season was the first time in 14 consecutive years and only the second time since 1996 that USU had not won 20+ games. Even though USU won 18 games last year and finished with a better conference record than any other school added to the MWC had done in their first year in the league, it was still disappointing. With the wholesale clearance of players in the off-season, it was fully expected that USU would finish even worse this season. Instead, USU is now on pace to put up better second season results than any added school in their respective second year with the possibility of finishing in the top 3 in the league. RogueStout
Having zero returning starters is not a stat in the win column.
BestintheWest
7 of their 10 wins are from the bottom 4. If they win out and go to semi finals of MWCT...then maybe. Right now it's Fisher. Leon Rice 2nd. Then Stew. All is well, For Rice is gone.

AndroidAggie
I think Morrill has a case. And like has been said, can strengthen it with mwct success.
Jack Bauer
I think he has a great case. Nobody thought USU would be where they're at. I thought they'd win about 10 games this year. They've done much better this year than they were projected.

boisewitha-s
It's a lot easier to coach 22 year old freshman. Think he should go undefeated in conference play to get consideration. "but we only lost to Stanford by 3."

boisewitha-s
So... One guy makes the whole team? 1 guy in basketball equals 20 percent of players on the court. And let's be honest, he's not the only old man on the roster. "but we only lost to Stanford by 3."
ChicagoAggie
7 of their 10 wins are from the bottom 4. If they win out and go to semi finals of MWCT...then maybe. Right now it's Fisher. Leon Rice 2nd. Then Stew. Good point. Yet USU was still finished to be 10th regardless of who we were scheduled to play. Fischer and Leon were predicted where they currently are. Morrill has a better than good chance. That said... His team needs to finish strong to close the deal.
