The State of MW hoops programs

It's tough to schedule up when all the big conferences are moving to 20 conference games a year. That vastly reduces the pool of possible quality matchups OOC.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

They will eventually add two games to the regular season because those schools will complain about that.

And that is what will keep us from getting multiple bids. UNLV's schedule is especially putrid. And it's too bad because this is a pretty good team this season.

Funny that even though UNLV's non-conference is littered with cupcakes they still play Rice, Ole Miss or Utah, Arizona, Illinois, and No. Iowa.  They still have some non-conference opponents which are names and good teams.  But I agree, the others on their slate are laughable at best.

UNLV gets a pass this year. This is the right schedule for this season.  We need to get some momentum so we can resume to business as usual which is playing Kansas, Duke, Arizona, Wisconsin and Louisville while knocking one or two of them off.

Don't sleep on BSU as an at-large possibility, I think they will probably be better this year than last. Not sure how that will translate if the whole league takes a step up, but Leon knows what it takes to actually get an at-large bid. This weekend will probably tell a lot as to whether they have a realistic shot this year. Really hope at least one MWC team gets an at-large though.

This is a one bid conference.  Don't fool yourselves.  When our top team is considering a home win vs. Rhode lsland as a quality non-conference win, we as a conference are in trouble.  That's reality.

Rhode Island may not have the sexy name recognition, but they're certainly a quality win and a huge resume booster. They're currently ranked 27th, and made the 2nd round last season. Nevada also get's TCU and Texas Tech, our schedule is definitely much better than last season (I realize that isn't saying much at all).
It's still early to say, but 2 teams is still very much a possibility.

Rice is like 300th in Kenpom rankings, Illinois and No. Iowa over 100. Rebs have two quality games Ole Miss/Utah and obviously Arizona.

Other teams in the conference need to start scheduling decent teams, Nevada schedule isn’t “sexy” but has 5 teams in the Kenpom top 100 (4 top 70) and only 3 above 200. UNLV has 9 over close to 250+ so even if UNLV beats Arizona I’m not sure it’d be enough for an at large, it’s like Illinois st last year besides beating Wichita st they beat nobody and got left out. MW puts to much pressure on 1/2 games for each team instead of building a better SOS overall. It’s a long season though so maybe things changes and some teams really climb. I guess will find out

Agree.  Getting Unlv out of the bottom 1/3 will help the MW in general.  If less than .500 again this year you will need to fire Menzies.  He will have proven he was a mistake.

It’s a long season. Take care of business in the games we should, pick off a couple of the tougher games and we’ll be in a decent spot to get two bids. If we can get 8 or 9 teams in the top 100, which is doable if we all win every time we should, that’ll go a long ways. Then it’s about the top teams, whoever they end up being, picking off a few of these chances at top 50 wins, and those top teams remaining near the top throughout the conference slate. Do all that, and we can get 2 or 3 teams in the top 50. Even if they are only in the 30’s and 40’s, those extra top 50 games could be the tipping point.

The conference has done a solid job in the opening days. At the least we haven’t cut our own throats. Be optimistic for now, the time to be realistic will punch us all in the mouth when and if it comes.

Wyoming and Nevada have already scored some decent wins this week. Boise has a huge opportunity in their tournament. Fresno and CSU have tall mountains to climb, but there is treasure to be found at the top. Everybody else take care of the business they should, we’ll see how it looks 5 days from now.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

We've been carrying this league in scheduling along with SDSU and New Mexico since conference inception.

Rice has been a top 150 team multiple times in recent years. Northern Iowa has been in the top 100 more often than not. And are really good every 3 or so years.

Illinois isn't some marquee win, but they will end up a fringe top 75 team by years end like they do every single year. Maybe more with Underwood now in charge.

It's hit or miss sometimes. UNLV scheduled mostly soft. We're coming off our worst year ever. Yet we still play the best non con game in our conference and at our own court on top of that.

Arizona and Utah will both be top 50. Illinois and Northern Iowa both are likely top 100 by years end. This schedule is fine for this year and our circumstances.

You want something that catches committees eyes? Beating a team like Oregon, Arizona, Gonzaga, Kansas, Duke etc... that opens eyes. Along with doing work in conference of course.

All is well, For Rice is gone.

Unlv has to be the Shittiest athletic dept in the country. You guys can get anybody to play there because your in vegas yet you guys suck in every sport that matters.
