I think Foster comes off the bench as the offense to spell some of the other guys, could still get his minutes.

I really like Williams as a glue big man though in the starting line up.

Agreed with this, Murray has indicated multiple times now Williams is the starting Center. Which makes sense to me if he’s better defensively then Foster (which supposedly he is) they need someone similar to Drew not looking to score but just be solid all round and defensive stalwart.

Foster can be a solid scoring punch off the bench and even more so against a bench PF/Center

Deep Deep Deep

Very talented

Fast and athetic

Key returners and solid transfers

And still so many questions.

If Pope stays healthy and Watson is good of point guard as we think...The Aztecs win the conf.

Surprises?...Jalen McDaniels is very good.

Yes, and this was proved once again last season with the Aztecs.  A .500 team in the MWC?  With that talent?  Oh Myyy

He seems like a much better rim protector than Foster. He averaged almost 2 bpg in 40 minutes. It looks like he fouls like crazy. 2.2 foul average in under 12 mpg.

The Aztecs were a much better team than their record last year. They were actually 2nd in the league in scoring margin despite their .500 league record. It's all whether Dutcher can coach because they probably have the best roster in the league. They have a ton of scorers.

Williams is a hard guy to peg.  He was highly recruited out of high school but ended up playing JC ball in Iowa.  There he was a 16 point 6 rebound guy who shot 41 percent from 3 point land..He was more of a 3 than a 4 or 5.

However, by his sophomore season he began having numerous injuries and surgeries on his shoulders. He didn't play at all as a soph.   After recovering he was headed to Iowa State for his junior year but switched to St John's because the guy who recruited him became an assistant there.

He played just 3 games as a junior before injuring himself again and missing the rest of the season.  As a senior he was role player off the bench and didn't shoot from the perimeter at all.  Muss has said the thing that really caught his eye about Williams was how well he shoots 3's.

I really have no idea what to expect from him at all.  If healthy, he could be a very nice piece.

UNR is gunna be deeper this year, but it's gunna be different not having a go-to scorer like Marshall out there. He was a great lead protector, being able to just give him the ball late in games and let him run down the clock and then create. They don't have the rim protector in Oliver this year, either... although, they exchange length at the other positions vacated by Marshal and Fenner.

Certainly will be different but more like what Muss has had in mind for the program.  He likes to spread it out and he wants to play positionless basketball.  I think you will see lineups out there with no center at all.  Whether it works or not is as yet unknown.

Fresno should be very good this year.

1. Hopkins

- Super Athletic, big , strong, quick. Struggles shooting the ball but can get to the basket at will and plays great D. Should have a big year

2. D Taylor

- Absolute gamer. If he had started all season he would be getting a ton of pub. Carried us at points.

3. Bowles

- Talented transfer, should fill the spot of Watson nicely. Better scorer

4. Williams

- If he learned to stay out of foul trouble he should make a big splas

5. Carter

- When he stays out of foul trouble and has his head on straight he can dominate

Bench

J Taylor

- One of the best 3 point shooters in the nation. Can light it up, struggles on D

Grimes

- Could be an X factor. Has always had the talent, if the game has finally slowed down for him watch out. I could easily see him starting

Bryson Williams is a stud. He's a future All Conference player. Frontcourt depth is an issue with Fresno. Especially since both Williams and Carter have foul issues. But the top two teams last year both had depth issues and made it work.

They're very good.especially Caroline, Foster and Drew to a slightly lesser extent than the other 2. We'll be chasing these guys all season.

Kell, Hemsley and Newcomer Devin Watson will form a 3 guard rotation,

Transfer Kam Rooks and RS Soph Narian in the low post.

Then our typical logjam of 6-6 to 6-10 guys including Pope, RS frosh Mc Daniels, Montana (Hoetzel), frosh Matt Mitchell andGill-Ceaser.

Two frosh additions. One or both may red shirt : Adam Seiko, 6-3 G and Jordan Schakel, 6-6 G

With a new coach and given the disappointing season last year, we have much to prove. Kell, Hemsley and Pope need to show they know how to win when it counts.

UNLV is top three in talent in the conference.  We have a strong backcourt with Johnson and Mooring.  Juiston and McCoy are inexperienced but talented.  Clyburn will probably be the fifth starter, and he’s improved a lot since last year.  Amauri Hardy will be the third guard, and he is a scorer who knows how to attack the basket.  He originally signed with Oklahoma State to play for Brad Underwood.  Cheickna Dembele is a better third big man than any other in the conference.  He’s also improved a lot.  Tervell “Nunu” Beck is a big and physical wing.  He moves well for his size and should see time at the three and four spots.  The other guy who may see time is Cheikh Mbacke Diong.  He has elite physical tools but is raw.  He will be one of college basketball’s breakout players in 2018-19.  Louisville really wanted him but wanted him to reclassify to 2018.

All you have to do is be average on offense, and you’ll be fine.

Air Force will be the team most overlooked in the list of opponents on the MWC schedule.  Everyone knows Clarke left SJSU and nobody cares about little old Air Force.   We lost two players from last years squad in Graham and Kocur but return our 2,3, 5-10 scorers.  Sr's Van and Lyons (who was injured most of last year) will return up top with Sr. Siples and Soph Tomes off the bench.  Forwards will most likely be Scottie, Manning and Purvis as the top three.  The big 'red-head' Sr. Frank Toohey that plays with that blue-collar chip on his shoulder will be back as the small five but this year will be backed by a rising Soph 6'8" Ryan Swan who I think will surprise many with his physical play.  Watch for junior Dane Norman 6'10"/195 # (soaking wet) is very much a clone of Wyo's Dalton and I think he will give very good minutes for the Falcons.  Note that while we definitely lose scoring from the two departing seniors, the young guys off the bench (last years So. and Fr.) if you averaged their ppg with minutes played to that of Graham/Kocur we will not be losing scoring and a healthy Sr Lyons (Mike Lyons younger brother who has been hampered by injury the last two years) may be a game changer.

We actually get a favorable schedule for a change to start the MWC play, the first two games with no cadets/student at the end of Dec are on the road playing at the PIT and in Fresno with no student body in the stands.  We only play Nevada once (after a bye for both teams) on 6Jan and that is home at Clune and (unfortunately with the great rivalry) play Wyoming once away.

Will we challenge for the league?  Probably not (ok...laugh laugh insert here) but the Falcons WILL win more games than many think this season.  I think you will see a much more balanced scoring offense and the three-ball that AF was known for for so many years will be back.
