What do your rotations look like and who are your impact players ?

For Nevada we are 9 deep ,but a very solid 9 deep!!

We are full of JRs and seniors

Projected starters

JR 6"4  Pg Lindsey Drew. Finished first in assists per game in the MWC and top 10 in blocks. Drew is the glue that holds this team up , a very good defender and possibly the tallest pg in the MWC. Drew is the son of the Cleveland Cavaliers assistant head coach and his brother plays for the Miami Heat.

JR6"7 Sg Caleb Martin. Voted by MWC media  projected new comer of the year and could have a legit shot at MWC player of the year. Transfer from NC state

JR 6"7 Sf Cody Martin. Twin of Caleb. Very talented should have a big year Transfer NC state

JR 6"8 Pf Jordan Caroline  Absolute beast

SR 6"7 C Elijah Foster (averaged 13pts  and 7rebounds 60%shooting  prior to suspension last year) or Saint John's transfer Darrien Williams 6"8 SR

Bench

So 6"7 Josh Hall . Most expect to have a break out year. He was a 4 star freshman last year and should flashes of being a future 1st team MWC player.

SR 6"7 Kendall Stephens: Should be our 3 point specialist. Transfer from Purdue

SR 6"4 Hallice Cooke. Not sure what to expect from him, I know he is a great 3 pt shooter , but unsure of what he brings to the tablw

we're senior heavy. Boy, we're gonna suck in 2018.

PG: Jaron Hopkins (SR) - 6-6, 210.  Probably NBA level athleticism.  If he actually gets a respectable jump shot together watch out. Don't count on it though.  He's all dunks and passing.

SG: Deshon Taylor (JR) - 6-2, 185.  Best player on the team.   Nearly as good of a shooter as Jahmel Taylor, without being so damn tiny that he can't guard anyone.

SF: Ray Bowles (SR) - 6-5, 205 . Grad transfer from UOP.  Good player. We'll see how he does when he's not carrying his damn team.

PF: Bryson Williams (SO) 6-8, 230.  Not playing out of position anymore.   Should have a pretty big year.

C: Terrell Carter (SR) 6-10, 290. Supposedly lost a ton of weight...if he plays consistently to what he's shown, he'll dominate.

We are likely to take a step back this season.  The transfer to Gonzaga of Brandon Clark really hurts.  He was our "all-everything" last year.  Here is what we have now.  Probably use a lot of 3 and 4 Guards lineups.

Center

Oumar Barry-- A true Center at 6'11".  Transfer in and is a Jr.

Ashton Chastain-- Also a Center at 6'11" and a Sophomore.

Forwards

Keith Fisher III--  is a highly touted Freshman at 6"8".

Ryan Welage--  Second leading scorer last year and is expected to carry that #1 load this year.  6'9" Jr.

Walter Graves III--  May red shirt.  6'7".  True Frosh.

Ryan Singer-- 6'10" Jr.

Guards

Noah Baumann--  At 6'5" a Guard/Forward.  May also red shirt.

Nai Carlisle--  Highly touted Freshman and is 6'2"

Jaycee Hillsman-- 6'6".  May be used at forward.  Rugged.

Jalen James--  Real veteran.  Team's only Sr. 6'4".

Isaiah Nichols--  6'5".  Got a lot of starts last season as a true Fr.  A So.

Ryan Parilla--  True Frosh. 5'10".

Caleb Simmons--  6'6" True Frosh.  May red shirt.

Highly touted?  I didn't see any other offers other than Sharta.  Am I missing something?

Not telling..

Eh too bad. I always appreciate your takes on the team as you always seem dialed in.

I think Juiston and Jordan Johnson are the keys and will surprise some folks who don't know about them. Clyburn and Dembele will have solid years for the roles they play.

My hope is Jovan Mooring plays within the offense and doesn't take more than the 1 or 2 ill-advised shots you know he will during a game. Reduce volume, increase efficiency.

My hunch is McCoy doesn't take to the D-1 level very quickly and struggles with the physicality. He's a candidate for a major case of the freshman wall. I also hope i'm terribly wrong on that.

Well you are spot on. Good job. Nobody else in the conference has a clue about juiston and Johnson. I figured I'd leave it at that, lol. Probably a better response from me would have been 'don't tell me what to do.'?

Oh and btw, McCoy could turn out to be a total bust and he would still be a huge benefit to the Rebels just from the recruiting standpoint. We'll see how it goes.

Boise State - predicted to finish 2nd or 3rd in MW.

lose our #2 scorer Paris Austin - transferred to Cal. 12 ppg, as well as #3 James Reid (3pt specialist), and #4 leading scorer (and MW fan-favorite) Nick Duncan (Donut)

Starters (my opinion)

Chandler Hutchison (6'-7"), preseason POY, 17.4 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 2.6 apg

Justinian Jessup (6'-6") returns, averaged 7.4 ppg as true fresh last season.

Alex Hobbs (6'-4") (4.5 ppg as freshman, reportedly much improved)

Zach Haney (6'-11") 5 ppg, 4 rpg (glue guy)

Christian Sengfelder (6'-9) transfer from Fordham, averaged 12ppg and 5 rpg, 42% from 3pt.

Bench

grad-transfer pg Lexus Williams (6'-0") a two-year starter at Valparaiso, center David Wacker, (6'-10), center Robin Jorch (6'-11), guard Malek Harwell (6'-5), forward Casdon Jardine (6'-7), guard Marcus Dickinson (6'-2), guard Derrick Alston (6'-7)

I have no freaking idea who is going to start for BSU (other than Hutchison) but they will be as deep as anyone in the league. Christian Sengfelder isn't getting a lot of pub but has as good a chance as Martin/Juiston at being the newcomer of the year--3 year starter at A-10 Fordham and averaged 12 and 5 last year. Justinian Jessup and David Wacker are the other two returning starters from last year but I'm not even sure if either one will start this year. Supposedly Alex Hobbs (who really started coming on late last year) has made a big jump and may start at SG. They also have a couple 6-11 post guys in Jorch and Haney who are experienced and solid but unspectacular.

Point guard play will probably determine how well they actually do this year. It will be hard to replace Paris Austin but they got a grad transfer from Valpo, Lexus Williams, who should be pretty good along with Marcus Dickinson, who also came on late last year. At worst BSU will be middle of the pack this year but Leon seems to think they have a chance to be really good. Time will tell.

For Nevada..

Plusses...

Experience, experience, experience..9 scholarship players and 8 have played in the NCAA's.  8 upperclassmen,  Solid depth.

Versatility. They have a lot of guys who can guard multiple positions.  That helps with switches and help defense.

Muss..He adapts to what he has on hand every year.  1st team couldn't shoot but played solid defense  Last year's team could shoot but wasn't as strong defensively.  This team should play better         D  and can shoot pretty well.

Concerns.

No top notch rim protector.  That Pack has pretty beefy post players but none over 6'8

Free throw shooting percentage.  I am hoping Muss has them shooting a lot of free trows in practice. A big part of their offense is getting to the line.  Gotta knock them down.

The unforeseen.  Injuries could be a factor..

How this all plays out is unknown at this point..

Individually their backgrounds looks pretty good, but how will they perform as a team?  That's the key.

I agree...I think having 4 of the newcomers practice with the team for over a year as they sat out helps a lot, though.

They also got some extra practice and 5 exhibition game this summer.

Still, we don't know what we don't know yet..

We do get a glimpse on Sunday.

Just to add to this. My guess is either Lex Williams or Marcus Dickinson starts. My guess is Alex Hobbs will come off of the bench. Leon has always liked to have an instant offense guy off the bench. Mikey Thompson came off of the bench most of his career and Paris came off the bench last year. If Cas Jardine (6'7" 220# stretch 4 return missionary JC transfer) is ready to contribute they are an experienced and solid 10 deep, but Leon also tends to favor a bit of a shorter bench. My guess is Robin Jorch and Jardine are the odd men out if he uses an 8 man rotation.

What I expect to see:

-Alex Hobbs is going to have a big year and will more than make up for the scoring lost by the surprising departure of Austin. Hobbs is a much more versitile and natural scorer and I think it'll help him to be more relied upon to do the scoring. While he did only average 4.5 ppg his trFR year, he was lost in deep in the rotation early and not getting much playing time. He bumped that average up to 7.0 ppg in conference games and 10 ppg over the last six games. I'm expecting 13-14 ppg out of him this year and an Honorable Mention type all conference season.

-The team will be better defensively. They were decent defensively last year, but they should be better this year, if for no other reason than the attrition of two of their worst defenders in Reid and Donut. Paris was a good defender, but Dickinson is better and Lex led Valpo in steals both of the seasons he was relatively injury free. Sengfelder, while not athletic, is more athletic than Donut (as is Jardine) and all three of the bigs are now a year older. Jessup is a very good defender, but had a tendancy to get into foul trouble last year, which happens to some trFR.

-Balance. Hutch is proven, as is Sengfelder (who was a double digit scorer in the A-10 all three years he was there). Jessup should be around 10 ppg and is the best pure shooter on the team and then, of course, Hobbs. There should be 4 guys at/above double digits. Plus Haney, Wacker, Dick, and Lex have all shown they can contribute in the scoring column.

-Rebounding. Boise has always been decent rebounding team even when they were small. They get all of their bigs back and add Sengfelder and Jardine who are both better rebounders than Donut. Hutch is one of the top returning rebounders in the league. They were 3rd in rebound margin last year and should be stronger in that area this year. This is easily the biggest team Leon has assumbled.

I think Josh Hall is going to have a very good season. He'll have a better season than both Stephens and Cooke. Possibly Cody, too, although his versitility is impressive.
