Democrats Propose "Hot Car" bill to save kids from stupid parents

Recommended Posts

Democrats go too far imo and introduce a bill that will require automakers to install a sensor that will alert stupid parents that there is a child in the backseat in an effort to avert heatstroke deaths

This is an example of over-regulation.  I am a proponent of regulations, but not to a ridiculous extent, as this bill does.  Automakers shouldn't be responsible for stupid people.

Parents who are too stupid to remember they have kids in the backseat would probably ignore the sensor anyway.

I really like Al Franken, but this bill isn't the answer.

Cons should pick their jaws off the floor now. :P

This would put automakers unnecessarily at risk for stupid parents.  Imagine a parent leaves their kid in the car and the sensor doesn’t work properly.  They will then sue the automaker and win millions.

But guns and gunmakers should be held responsible for evil people? Interesting......

I think it is a dumb law, but I think your statement is disingenuous for the simple fact that the purpose of a car is not to kill things (and people), however that is precisely the one and only purpose of a gun.

So by enacting this dumb law, you are dealing with one of the unfortunate consequences of cars, but not eliminating their true purpose. A better law would be to put breathalyzers and ignition autolocks on all vehicles if you really wanted to save lives. But that has as much chance of happening as gun control.

Could you not argue that a purpose of guns is to kill animals for food which is legal...and  one consequence of guns is that it can also kill people using that some logic? You seem to be picking and choosing battles.

Sure someone could argue that and it makes sense. But I would also say there is more grey area than black and white on the issue. There is room for compromise, but I won't steer this towards another gun control debate. We have a few threads on that already and sorry I was moving this in that direction. :sorry:

It's good in theory, but we all know problems will come of it should it pass.

Too bad we just can't ban stupid people instead.

One could argue the stupid people would be the poor and uneducated in this country....i.e. the democratic base.....so I'm all for that.

I don't discriminate. You could say the same about both political "bases". I'm just sick of idiots, both left and right. It's an endemic in this country.

I'm not sure every parent that's made this terrible mistake is stupid. It's hard to imagine doing this, myself, but some of these parents claim they were frustrated, distracted or their minds were just on something else they forgot a sleeping child.

People make honest mistakes and sometimes those mistakes can be deadly.

You've obviously never lived in Boston.

Darwinism was supposed to take care of that.  But Darwin didn't have to consider the impact of scumbag lawyers and frivolous lawsuits.

Were all the lawyers of Darwin's day virtuous?

In Darwin's day the stupid and their spawn died and everyone else was happy to have one less idiot to feed.

Judges and juries of the day were made up of people who had some reasonable standing and money.  They looked with skepticism on a suit for damages from an obvious idiot.

Nowadays idiots make up the juries so we get idiot results.

Gun maker's aren't responsible for people.

It's disingenuous anyway, as already pointed out, guns were created to take life. Cars are people conveyors.

Handguns and automatic/semi-automatic weapons weren't designed for hunting purposes.

The analogy is skewed.  It'd be more accurate to equate a bill introduced to put a muzzle cap on guns to stop people getting their finger stuck in the barrel.

Guns were originally created to fire pretty lights into the air.  Again though facts and you are always mutually exclusive.

Now guns make a fucking worthless idiot pipsqueak like you the equal of anyone.   Guns made the words all men were created equal to have some real meaning.  You are too stupid to even understand that fact.

Guns in the hands of citizens are why this country exists.  They didn't win their freedom with socialism moron.

If you are worried about guns killing you, odds are you are mentally ill, an idiot or both.

It is sad your parents were too stupid to own a car.
