Did Trump just make Kaepernick a modern day Rosa Parks?

  1. 1. Did Trump just make Kaepernick a modern day Rosa Parks with his comments? Will he now go down in the history books as a martyr? The guys on the NFL programs aren't taking very kindly to Trumps words.

Comparing Kapernick to Rosa Parks is a reach, at best. But what Trump did was throw gasoline on a fire that was slowly dying out (h/t to @THEUniversityofNevada For that statement).

But, this was a calculated move.  Look at what we are discussing now.  Instead of discussing the failure to repeal and replace Obamacare (again) we are discussing this.   His statement was to distract the masses and we fell for it, again.

Nah, that doesn’t work. Plenty of people are talking about health care. ... at least the ones who care. The ones who don’t care wouldn’t bother paying attention in the first place.

What's dominating the news coverage right now?

Yep, but only because it’s the weekend. News moves fast in the Trump era, and the Congressional circus will take center stage again.

Lol no... I'm sure he will get credit for the massive decline in NFL ratings tho. People are abandoning it in droves with every kneel.

I am guessing they will get a tremendous bump in the ratings this week.  People are now tuning in to see the protests.  A lot of folks who don't like football are probably now watching and rooting for the players now!

Trump doesn't mind being an embarrassment to himself or his family. But he's an embarrassment to our country and the World in general. Words like clown, blowhard and buffoon all apply.

I don't think it helps his agenda to get the news of his numerous failures out of the press.  Trump has failed to realize that charging up his base won't help him to actually be successful.  No matter how hyped up they get they don't have enough power to get anything done by themselves.

The more of this crap they do, the more it turns off the moderates who may sympathize with some of his policy positions but who start to hate him as a person.  Bill Clinton (and many other presidents) were able to get things done because they had a charm and likability and that brought them a lot of goodwill with people who were on the edge with their vote.  Reagan, GWB, Obama, etc....had a real charm about them where you could see how they could really sweet talk a legislator to vote their direction.  Does anyone believe that McCain, Murkowski, Collins, etc., are going to be swayed by Trump or that they can tell their constituents that they had to "take one" for Trump.

These distractions just make the moderate voters and legislators hate this guy's guts even more.  Alabama can't get more votes so his strategy to inflame is a sorry strategy and it won't get him the votes and the public support he needs to get his agenda through.  GWB probably had worse policy prescriptions but he wasn't always out there inflaming...he would dress up his shit as actually being good...at the very least.  Trump doesn't seemingly understand that "ratings" and people paying attention to you and your nonsense is actually sometimes the opposite of what you want to do as president.  Republicans need to slip things under people's noses because (with enough sunshine) tax cuts for the wealthy, huge military spending, drug war, huge debt and deficits, etc. are not popular with the public.  Galvanizing a bunch of lazy moderates and democrats to want to do anything they can do to stop trump isn't exactly a winning strategy for Republicans.  Boring them to death and slipping things under an apethetic opposition is usually the key to their success.

Yes.  He's trolling. This is all he does. He's just riling up his base against black guys and whiny liberals.  I so wish people could just stop taking the bait.

I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Kap doesn't have a King who can inspiringly articulate and lead a disciplined movement to accomplish the lasting change that Parks's protest galvanized. And he wasn't the transcendent succussful athlete Ali was so he won't have as far reaching an impact. I do think he could, at minimum, be as recognized as Smith and Carlos, and will probably be thought of as a good deal more important.

The NFL is an incredibly popular entity. It has been so massive in the early 21st century that it's cultural importance might dwarf all other professional sports leagues combined. It will be mentioned in general American history books for hundreds of years. Depending on how this all plays out in the coming decades, politically, culturally, and with regard to the long term survival of football as a sport; there is a distinct possibility that in 200 years Colin Kaepernick is the only football player the few Americans who can name one will know.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

He doesn't need to refute it. You're a tard

The nfl made its cash on the fact that non fans watched football for a while. Now it is less popular with people who don't really care. Fads end

Meh. Nobody cares about old pop culture. The nfl is just pokemon, everyone loved it for 5 years and then it subsided back down to people who actually like rpgs

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.
