Outlaw public gatherings by them....

So screw the 1st amendment?

I thought people wanted racism brought out of the shadows?

These morons came out with no hoods on and are now paying for it by being personally identified.

All is well, For Rice is gone.

So the government gets to pick who gathers and who doesn't? And then does that change depending upon which party is in power at the time?

We can't outlaw public gatherings. But we can gather in large numbers when they gather, shout them down, and drown them out.

Better to ignore IMO.  This would have been a blip the nation laughed at.  Stop giving them a platform by creating a war zone.  JMO.

Yeah.....no.  Sorry I love the constitution.  I get where you are coming from but that would do more harm than good.

Jeez think of a the police for trying to arrest 100 armed to the teeth Nazi shit heads with 300 counter protesters in the cross fire.

I haven't read this thread but ..

You gotta use some common sense here.  A gathering is scheduled to protest the removal of Robert E Lee statue.  So local govt gives out two permits for leftist counterprotestors.  Yeah, what could go wrong?  Looks like local authorities really dropped the ball on this one.

Not everyone who protests against an alt right gathering is a "leftist." To quote you,

You gotta use some common sense here.

I have heard of stories from white people that I know who have been discriminated against because of the skin of their color especially when it comes to work that is managed by people who are members of the minority.  I am not sure how widespread this is but given the events in Charlottesville, we might be having a peek at what the future is going to be like.

Non-white children will make up the majority of this nation's children by 2020: http://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2016/07/01/484325664/babies-of-color-are-now-the-majority-census-says

We might be less than 20 years away from white people being outnumbered in this country.  Just imagine that.

I have shared stories of being one of a few white people walking down the streets in DC with thousands of other black people and while it was nerve wracking at first, I became used to it because I saw who they truly were instead of the criminals that the media sometimes portrays them.  Based on that experience, I don't really have any issues of being the minority in this country.  I recently told some people that the penis does not discriminate when it comes to skin color of the pussy and they LOL'ed.  I'm sure the pussy doesn't discriminate either. B)  I honestly couldn't care less if someone I married was different from me as long as we got along and loved each other unconditionally.  I'm not a huge fan of anything that tries to divide this country along racial lines.

Colorado has quite a few interracial marriages: https://colorado.ourcommunitynow.com/2017/05/26/denvers-interracial-marriage-higher/

While looking for that link above, I saw some headlines that stated 1 out of 12 marriages nationwide are interracial and that was from 2012.  Maybe it's closer to 1 out of 10 today.  Perhaps the fears shared by the white nationalists are unfounded.

I do not support Trump's immigration policies because we are a nation of immigrants.  Some of us might have a little Native American lineage in us but most of us would have European lineages.  Like our great great grandparents or further back, immigrants should pay to become legal citizens.  I don't have any problems with them as long as they are here legally and pay taxes in order to use services provided by the government.

Sorry I might have rambled some before getting to the point of this thread: my concern with white nationalism.  I'm quite concerned that what we saw on Saturday in Charlottesville could be the new beginning of a threat against this country and it could be big enough to lead to another Civil War.  Maybe I'm "batshit crazy" but I do have my concerns of where this could be leading.  It's encouraging to have seen 100+ counter protests and hopefully that really sent a message to those white nationalists and alt-right folks and the problem goes away fast.  Suppose it doesn't go away...

What would YOU do then?

The majority of children are already minorities where I live. The world still turns.

And not everyone who protests the removal of a statue is "alt right".   Whatever the political persuasion of the counter protesters, many of them came for the purpose of provoking and inciting violence.  The results were predictable.  Common sense would be to keep these two groups apart.

Well, many of the statue protestors showed up with helmets and shields. And there were 30-odd militia types that were armed to the teeth. What do you use as your criterion for allowing a protest to proceed?

Are you a blame all sides guy? Skirmishes are predictable. But some POS jumping in his car and mowing down people? That doesn't happen a whole lot.

Well, I'm not a professional community organizer but I'd probably use safety and common sense as my criterion.

Well, if that is the criterion then why would you allow the alt-right demonstration when many of them showed up equipped for a street fight and were escorted by well-armed militia?
