Recommended Posts

From the GoLobos website...

"On a picture perfect day in Albuquerque, nearly 1,500 fans enjoyed an afternoon of sunshine and football at University Stadium as the Lobos completed their 2017 Spring Camp with the Third Annual Spring Showcase."

the spring showcase was shown live on Facebook, hosted by the voice of the Lobos, Robert Portnoy. Lobos fans, and any other interested fans can see the video clip of the event in the link below.

Wish I could have  been there, but work has me in Alaska at the moment.

Story from the ABQ Joirnal...

"Our receiving corps as a whole had been outstanding and has continued to get better, and our quarterbacks can throw the ball,” Davie said. “That’s the two things that you take away from the spring.”

Opening up the passing game a little next season?

 Yes, we have 5 three star WRs that we have take advantage of their talent. Plus two redshirt sophmores that have already scored TDs and played a good amount of minutes.

I think our biggest improvement will be on the DL, we have a lot athletes there that can make plays and added size at NT. If our secondary can do their part our defense should make some big improvements from last year (which won't be hard).

@Lobo Amor, yeah, I agree with your statement about the DL. But he did mention that the DL took advantage of the OL due to injuries? Wonder what kind of injuries he's talking about, and whom, or was he referring to last year's injuries and the guys that are back on the OL after injuries?

@LoboMan59

Izreal Costanellos injured his knee last year so he is being brought back slowly and Sammy Bernard was injured in practice this spring but he'll be back.. So the OL is a little thin right now. Davie is pursuing a couple JuCo Olinemen for immediate depth. We still have 3 schollies to fill. Not a major concern at this point.

I'm so hoping that we can finally say that the passing game may/will be at least 30/40% of our offense... it would be nice if we can catch more defenses collapsing in on the run, and our qb's hitting a wide open receiver down field... or just flat out beating someone's backfield like so many have been doing to ours!

Defensive coordinators are going to have nightmares when they face us becuse they are going to have to pick their poison. With the speed we have on the outside and defenses trying to stop the run, there is going be a lot toast on game day.

Wasn't able to make it, but watched the golobos highlights. The Achilles heal for this team has been the ability to generate edge pressure and defensive backs getting over-powered in the vertical passing game. UNM looks to be much more physical at DE and much quicker and more athletic in the secondary. If those two areas are squared away, this team will contend for the SEC Mountain Division championship. Tulsa is going to be the litmus test game imo.

Tulsa's heavy pass attack will be a good test/learning experience for our defense.  The over/under may 100 points for tha game. Hopefully not.
