Was hoping to stoke up a discussion about something we rarely talk about as college sports fans; do sports contribute at all or are they simply a leeching? Seems like the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I think they're important from a PR and alumni engagement standpoint.

Football played a huge roll in transforming Boise State.  Studies like this fail to take into account the free marketing successful athletic programs bring to your school.  Advertisement money can not buy.  They also fail to take into account they make donors happy and happy donors are more willing to write a check when the library needs remolded or when you are building a new Alumni center.

It's actually going to cost us money.  Our dipshit president didn't do a financial analysis before dropping us down and now he's going to the SBOE like Oliver Twist asking for more porridge.  It's a cluster+++++ of galactic proportions.

Agreed and that is acknowledged in the article. Gonzaga as well. They call it "The Flutie Effect". But it is probably incredibly rare.

Certainly worked out for SDSU last time! Face it, SDSU is the Charley in the Box on the Isle of Misfit Toys and Santa isn't coming.

I know its tough for Nevada to be on the other side of the glass with your nose firmly againstit, but don't hate. you know as well as I do that we'll make the cut in some form. Wolf Pack? not so much.

Interesting.  Out of curiosity, with a school as big as yours, with no competition in a large and convenient media market, a well-funded athletic program, in a recruiting hotbed and obviously gracious posters, how is it possible that you aren't in the PAC12 or another P5 school?
