If China fails to influence Pyongyang and North Korea continues development of its nuclear arsenal it looks like that might be our response.

Why would we need to put them there? Can't we just launch them from wherever. They are frickin' rockets.  Does it just look threatening or is there an actual strategic value to it?

Time.  We can strike from anywhere, we can strike faster from closer with less warning.

That's exactly my point. I'd we officially put a nuke in SK, it's not about fast response, it's about attempted intimidation and risking escalation of an already tenuous situation.

Yep... Always a great idea when dealing with a lunatic.

I think there could be some value in doing so.  Beyond my pay grade but sometimes you have to communicate on their level, right?

We have one boomer at sea in each hemisphere at all times.  Exactly 1.  Never more, never less.

If the Columbia program is delayed or we don't build all 12, we will no longer be able to have a two ocean continuous at sea deterrent.

It looks like they were removed in '91.  Or more accurately the agreement to sign them was signed in '91 when the North Koreans agreed not to develop nuclear weapons, it was probably a few years later that they were moved.

When were you stationed there?

Aren't we already in the engineering and manufacturing phase as of early January?
