Hawaii's Aloha Stadium Authority Show Off New Stadium Plans

Recommended Posts

At 11AM HST/2PM PST, the Aloha Stadium Authority will discuss the 500-page report and its findings done by a NY-based firm (Foley & Lardner) and the current plan for Aloha Stadium. The firm helped with stadium deals for the Oakland A's and Florida Marlins in the past. With the current Aloha Stadium site being one of the main hubs for the currently 'under-construction' Rail Transit system. It's been talked about that in addition to a 30-40k seat stadium, commercial and residential buildings will be built in some of the land that the stadium uses.

Hopefully the stadium doesn't take as long or as over-budget as the rail transit...

Wow, it would be pretty crazy if 4 different conference teams all get new stadiums in a 5-10 year span. It should definitely be more than 30k though, when Hawaii is winning their fans show up.

Report: Aloha Stadium a ‘potential danger’ to public

http://www.staradvertiser.com/2017/04/05/sports/sports-breaking/report-aloha-stadium-a-potential-danger-to-public/

"It would be cheaper, according to consultants, to build and operate a new 30,000-35,000-seat stadium with the ability to expand to 40,000 seats for special events.

The new stadium, which would be built adjacent to the current facility, would cost $324.5 million in 2017 dollars and require 36 percent less square footage, reducing operating expenses, the report says."

"The facility proposed by the consultant would be a U-shaped bowl open at the north end, which planners said would, “…provide a ‘window’ into the stadium from the adjoining ancillary development and stadium plaza, emphasizing the synergy between the new multi-use venue and the adjacent mixed-use district. The open end of the stadium would feature a sloping grass berm, where spectators could casually watch events in a picnic-like atmosphere.”"

Think it's safe to say we will have one of the worse looking stadiums in the world...and still they kept that horrible concept design from a few months ago...

No kidding, that is hideous. Still, exciting either way.

Hot damn that's a lot of money for a 35k stadium. Is that just the reality of building in Hawaii?

yes as the saying goes...everything is more expensive in Hawaii.

That's the cost of what happens when the available land is shrinking every passing year, along with the cost of shipping most if not all the construction material from the mainland.

I see Hawaii rubs elbows with the best of the best! Two franchises known for their amazing fan experience. :)

Strange, how, like SDSU, they are going with a smaller stadium...

Is that post-neomodern architecture? Might as well cover that shit in solar panels, make it the Energy Star facility of the year. Is it a giant gas station? At least it's new. Will there be dolphins in the north (I think that's north) endzone?

It's the north endzone. No dolphins. It's a swimming pool for people to swim/hang out in during games...

That's actually pretty sweet. Wyoming should invest in hot tubs. No, wait, we should get a new stadium first, or at least remodel.

But, seriously, it looks like a canopy for a super-sized gas station.

agree. hate the roof design. I'm hoping they are doing solar panels with all the sunlight during the day and would save electricity costs at night.

"Also new article from today talks about the time it would take to build..."Officials estimated, citing a DAGS timetable, that at the current pace it could be SEVEN YEARS before a new stadium was to begin operation. Actual construction, once the site was “shovel- ready,” would take 18 to 24 months, Raij estimated."

of course it would take seven years to build a stadium...only in Hawaii. When the Rail Transit construction is going a few hundred million over budget and taking a few years longer than expected...

You are aware of how much we've spent on our stadium the past 10-15 years?

Next phase (other than HAPC) is concessions and restrooms. They are also looking at chairback seating for middle donor sections with an enclosure of the south end zone to offset the loss of seats due to chairbacks. In order to accommodate chairback seats, we would lose quite a few rows and seats, but bleacher seating in much of the stadium will probably be phased out in the near future...

I am. I am also aware that the lower west side looks like a god damn hillbilly junkyard. I'm sure there are plans for improving the aesthetics, but I want improvements yesterday, dammit.
